Today I picked up a Prinztronic Tournament VC6000 but it doesn't seem to be in the database, and I can't find much about it on Google. I did look in the Pong section on here. I don't think it is a Pong console because it uses changeable cartridges, and from what I can tell the games are on a par with the Atari 2600.
How does a whole new console get added to the database?

Hey James, interesting find there! Here's the info your looking for courtesy of a colleague of Marriott_Guy's:
http://darkwatcher.home.att.net/console/1292.htm
Prinztronic VC-6000 (1977) (United Kingdom)
To submit it, make a hardware addition for the
Interton VC 4000
section and remember to choose U.K. specifically instead of
Europe region wide
. If you can't find a part number somewhere, please let a staff member know you have a pic so it isn't rejected off-hand. Game submissions might be a bit trickier, so unless your absolutely sure, just choose Europe region wide, we can change it later if necessary once we can verify the info.
EDIT
: In case anyone is wondering, a new console section for the database gets added by PMing an Admin. We'll research it, determine region and if it doesn't already have a section to fall under, we'll add one so you can add the actual hardware entry.

I'm answering for him...
Yes. And the one word that comes to mind? Asia.

I see...
Well, we should attract more asian members to the site then. Now how could we do that....hmmmm

It depends on what you consider Asia. It can range from Russia to Egypt to Singapore to China. Many systems from Japan were sold in Asia, also Korea has it's own identity within the database. Other regions like the Middle East and Russia sold PAL systems from Europe because many of those countries never had official releases at all. So if you paint Asia with a broad brush, we have the database sections for those well in hand considering.
Remember that we don't simply add systems based on the country they were sold in. There are many more factors at play and as you probably know, it would be impossible for each console to have been sold in 100 different languages so many countries will never have representation. That just means that if someone from Mongolia wanted to add a Mega Drive to their collection, it would most likely be the Chinese version or Japanese one instead.
It's one thing to have members from different regions. It's another to verify and assume a member has expertise on gaming hardware and on whether that system was sold natively and not imported. For that we never make any hasty additions to the database until after some serious research.
So to answer your question, yes there still are many systems yet to be added. But most of them would be variations of existing ones instead of new entries. We have the majority of the world's systems added already split evenly between the regions. I'm proud to say that our European Hardware section and Japanese ones are well spoken for and vast.

Thanks for the info. It's already been stuffed away in storage and it's a bit late in the evening to dig it out now. I don't know about a part number but if I can't find one I would want to take a proper picture, instead of a half arsed photo on a scruffy bed. That means putting a lot of effort into it.
It will be added eventually.
The cartridge slot is very mangled so I haven't been able to use it.
It might be fixable but it's really bad.

Hello all.
The
1292 Family
is quite extensive, not disimiliar from the
Arcadia 2001
system. The original manufacturer,
Radofin
, licensed the technology (successfully I might add) to a number of countries - mostly in Europe. You might remember that
The 3DO Company
tried a similiar tactic with the
3DO
- but without the same success. This resulted in a number of consoles for this programming technology. The mostly complete listing:
- Radofin 1292 APVS
- Radofin 1392 APVS
- Hanimex HMG-1292
- Hanimex HMG-1392
- Fountain Force 2
- Fountain 1292 APVS
- Fountain 1392 APVS
- Grandstand APVS
- Lansay 1392
- Audiosonic PP-1292 APVS
- Audiosonic PP-1392 APVS
- Prinztronic VC-6000
- Prinztronic Tournament
- Acetronic MPU-1000
- Acetronic MPU-2000
- Acetronic MPU-3000
- Videomaster Database
- Voltmace Database
- Rowtron Tele. Comp. Sys.
- Karvan Jeu Video TV
- Societe Occitane OC2000
- ITMC MPT-05
As you can see, there are a ton of systems within this group. I have the
Radofin 1292
,
Acetronic MPU-100
0 and the
Voltmace Database
.
The
Interton VC-4000
is actually a separate group, but quite similiar to, the
1292 Family
of systems. The graphic capabilities of each are about the same, but the cartridges are NOT compatible (I have the
Interton VC-4000
too and tried it out). For our purposes at
RFG
, it is right to combine these two groups as Tan has directed. But like the 'Pong' section, there are a ton of them out there that need to be added.
Hope this post helps out and great find James!!

Wow, what a huge list of consoles I've never heard about.
A time of confusion that must've been for consumers looking to buy a console with so many consoles to choose from; thank god those days are over.

I wonder how many times we have actually passed on something that looked to be a console as young ones.
