I think they like the media circus that goes with it, or at least some of them do. It seems less about the policies and more about the people.
Yeah. And it gets shown like that by the media aswell. Despite me watching CNN regulary (the only "US" channel we have in Beligum) I only vaguely know what Obama stands for (change! Tongue) and have no clue what Mccain stands for. He's for the war, that's all I know.

Becoming the next president involves only a couple of things:

1. Having alot of relationships that can feed you millions of dollars to fuel your campaign.
2. Whether you're a "democrat" or "republican". Which of the 2 is best comes down to how many catastrophies has happened during the last administration. (In case of alot of catastrophies it's best you're of the other party in the next election)
3. The way you look like.

About that third thing: I couldn't believe how there were female Hillary supporters that will actually switch sides and vote for Mccain just because he choose a woman as his running mate. That's like saying "I don't care about politics at all or what this candidate believes in, I'll vote for a woman no matter what". Sarah Palin could be a genocide supporter, some people would still vote for her "because she's a woman". Well that's rediculous.

you see, you can't vote for 'the man.' Who is the man?  whoever you want him to be.  He's george w.  bush.  He's john mccain and barack obama.  He's even sarah palin.  So who should you vote for than?  Chuck baldwin, my friend, the only candidate who doesn't give into the man.

I have a question:

Why is everyone so sure Obama or Microchips is going to be president? What about the Republicans? Or do they have next to no chance this time?

Of course, I don't know much about American politics except Obama is black, McCain is old and Hillary Duff is a woman.

lolz. lern to amerikkan politicks

I just learnded. Tongue >_<

I thought all this was about the Democratic position, and hadn't heard anything about the Republicans. I've only heard of two Democrats - Obama and Clinton, and (now I know) one Republican - McCain. Why isn't there someone else going for the Republican position?

There wasn't really anyone else going for Gordon Brown's new position and look where that got us. Shocked

There's always multiple people trying to become their party's candidate. There were other Republicans like...uhm Mitt Romney (I'm not sure, don't shoot me Tongue) and some other people I can't remember the names of.

Yeah Mitt Romney was one of them. Also Mike Huckabee, Rudy Giulliani, and Fred Thompson (No relations to Jack).

Yesterday they had the life story of that hockey mum chick on TV. Come on, I mean I live in Australia, why the hell do I want to know her life story?

Obviously I changed the channel as I don't even know her name :p
