After recently getting hooked on FEAR I am wondering what console has the most Survival/Horror games?

I was thinking the Playstation 1 but I am not quite sure.

Your opinions?

Dreamcast had quite a few if I remember correctly.

GameCube also has like 5 Resident Evils among others of the genre.

Yeah, as Resident Evil went GC exclusive for a little bit, if you a big fan of RE that'll be the one to get.

If you are after survival horror in general though, yeah, PS1 probably has the most. Even an anime style one that ain't all that scary, Hard Edge.

For quantity, I would say PS2.  It has RE 4 and the most of the series' spinoffs, not to mention b/c for the first three PS1 games.  Fatal Frame 1-3, and Silent Hill 2-4 and Silent Hill Origins are other series of horror games that come to mind.

I disagree with the Dreamcast for being a memorable horror console.  Sure it had a handful of games, but most weren't that great.  House of the Dead 2, Typing of the Dead, Zombie Revenge, D2, Blue Stinger, RE 2, RE 3, RE Code Veronica, The Ring, Evil Dead, Illbleed, and Carrier.  Almost all of them suffer a terrible storyline and/or wonky controls.

PS2 is a good idea, because you can still play all the PS1 horrors.

I have about, 2 dozen or so titles for the PS1. Including some real rare gems, not just the usual Res Evil/Sil Hill stuff

From my experience I'd go for PS2. I was actually looking into this myself not too long ago, I've been wanting to increase my horror game collection.

On PS2 there's not only big names like the Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Project Zero series but others like Forbidden Siren 1-2, Glass Rose, Haunting Ground, Obscure 1-2, The Suffering 1-2, Cold Fear, Rule of Rose, Echo Night Beyond etc. Most of them range from good to bloody brilliant. And The Thing is actually pretty good for a movie-based game.

Add in PS1 b/c for stuff like Dino Crisis and earlier RE/SH games and you're set Cheesy

and Project Zero series

Aren't those the scariest games you've ever played?

If you are into survival horror games or any other kind of gory horror games, then Sony's PS2 definitely is the best choice imaginable, if you consider the fact that there are quite some horror games on PSOne that you can play on PS2 as well. Here's just a small list of good to great horror games:
Resident Evil 1, 2 and 3 on PSOne
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil Outbreak
Resident Evil Outbreak File 2
Silent Hill (PSOne)
Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill 3
Silent Hill 4: The Room
Silent Hill: Origins
Project Zero / Fatal Frame
Project Zero 2 / Fatal Frame 2
Project Zero 3 / Fatal Frame 3
Obscure
Forbidden Siren
Forbidden Siren 2
Ghosthunter
Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare (Europe only)
Clock Tower
Clock Tower II: The Struggle Within
Clock Tower 3
Haunting Ground
Echo Night Beyond
Kuon
Michigan: Report from Hell (Europe and Japan only)
Fear Effect / Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix (if they count as a horror games)
Galerians (again, if it counrs as a horror game)
Hellnight

Is perfect zero the same as fatal frame?

At first I rushed through the list and I thought I saw Perfect Dark Zero.

Perfect Dark Zero is the prequel/sequel to Perfect Dark on the 360.

Project Zero (not Perfect) is named Fatal Frame in the US Smiley

Holy cow, someone mentioned Hellnight!!

That's like, probably the best horror I've played, excluding Clock Tower: The First Fear.
