I was talking with a few friends the other day, and one of them made a passing remark about how they used to have a gold Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt cartridge. I stopped him, asking him to repeat it, and sure enough, he said "gold". I turned to the other friend who nodded as if he knew exactly what the other guy was talking about. I, however, have never heard of a gold SMB / DH cart. Does such a thing really exist?

I've never heard of one, and I've checked almost all the online resources for NES info, so I highly doubt one exists.  I suppose it would be possible to replace the contents and labels of a Zelda gold cartridge with that of Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt, but I wonder who would want to do that as the label wouldn't exactly blend in nicely with the gold cartridge.

Hey, maybe your friend had an NWC cart and just didn't realize it.  Wink

He was probably just mistaken.  I've found that happens alot with older video games.  People will distinctly remember something about a game that is completely wrong.

I doubt that it is true, but if you can confirm that it is real,  I would say "That's cool, can I buy it from you?"  and if his price is under $100 BUY THAT SH!T.

I heard of an orange/yellow zelda cartridge, that was given to some stores when the game first came out.

You're thinking of the Zelda test cart I believe:

Does anyone have any info on what this particular test cart did?  I can't seem to find much information on it anywhere.

It's probably like the gold NES and gold Dreamcast at the pawn shop downtown. Gold from being in a smoky environment.

Sorry, it doesn't exist. Until I see one, I stay with my statement. Ask you friend where and how he got it. If it was a pack in, then BS.
