It's gonna be a while before this thing comes out.  Right now we have a minimum of six months, probably almost a year.

Nintendo is unveiling it at a pre-E3 press conference on May 9th.

Next-generation console all set for May 9 unveiling in Los Angeles

Nintendo has announced that its next-generation console, codenamed Revolution, will be fully unveiled to the world - along with its software line-up - at a pre-E3 press briefing in Los Angeles next May.

The briefing, which is scheduled to take place on May 9 at 9.30am, will be held in Hollywood's Kodak Theatre - the same venue as the Academy Awards. In a statement, Nintendo promised that the event will "reveal all the incredible details about Nintendo's upcoming games and hardware, including our next home console."

Nintendo first showed off the case design of the Revolution and spoke about its extensive backwards compatibility capabilities at E3 last year. The firm then unveiled the innovative controller for the system, which tracks the hand movement of the player, at the Tokyo Game Show in September - but to date, no software for the console has been revealed.

It comes as no real surprise that Nintendo has chosen E3 2006, which will kick off the day after the press briefing, to showcase its new machine. Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz earlier this month, European marketing VP Jim Merrick echoed comments previously made to this site at E3 last year when he said: "I would be very disappointed if I went to E3 and didn't play Revolution games."

It also seems the console will be ready for show and tell in time, if rumours regarding its CPU, codenamed Broadway, are to be believed. According to US website RevoGaming, IBM has now finished work on the chip and has shown Nintendo a prototype - which Nintendo has in turn shown to selected developers. One source claims that it is a dual-core processor, but this has not been confirmed.

The more I read and hear about the Revolution the more I am looking foward to it. The contrlloer still look lame and the lack of full HDTV support sucks still.

I'm cool with lack of HDTV support.  People still can't make games look realistic enough with regular TV.

The 360 games on HDTV are not impressive to me whatsoever, that processing power could have easily been put to better use (more realistic regular TV).

I think the controller is sweet.

I don't know why but i am looking foreward to this console more than i did 360 or am PS3(even though that is rather impressive thusfar it is WAY too pricy)

Nintendo better not let me down again.
I looked forward to N64 and lost alot of good genesis games to buy N64 games that ended up being more or less lackluster :-/
GCN i didn't get much use out oof either but to be fair that is partially my fault as well.

The best thing about HDTV is the color and details. On PSO for the GameCube you see the tree with S-video. It looks like one big green thing. In HD you can see the leafs.

The custumes are brighter and the colors are sharper. They don't blend together.

Yes, but that's due to your connections with the GC.  a RF cable can't transmit as much info as a composite video cable.

But the fact is you can see a tree just fine on regular TV, and videogames have not gotten to the point where they come close to regular TV yet.

While I am sure the Revolution will probably be revealed in full at E3, I do not think that this means that there will not be information divulged before then.  On IGN George Harrison, Senior VP of Marketing at NOA, had the opportunity to respond to the question of when they would reveal all the pieces of the puzzle. His response was as follows: "You'll slowly begin to know more as we enter 2006 and as the year unfolds, and especially at E3, you'll be immersed in Revolution news. " I am taking that as meaning that some things will be revealed before E3, but then he could have just lied.

This is what the mailer said that Nintendo Sent out: "You're probably just starting to plan your time for 2006. With a mere 165 days to go (give or take), it's time to start thinking about next year's E3. Nintendo is most certainly thinking about it. So pencil us in," the company wrote in an official mass-mailing to media. "You'll hear all the incredible details about Nintendo's upcoming games and hardware, including our next home console, codenamed Revolution. You won't want to miss it. See you there."

The way I see it, games will probably not be revealed until May; however, there are things other than games that will need to be revealed. Just what and when they reveal the little they plan to reveal before e3 still needs to be seen.

I think it's neat that they're doing this presentation from the Kodak Theater (where they do the Acadamy Awards) rather than the E3 conference center.

I can't wait for the Revolution.  Let's hope they're using the time they take to finish up this system wisely, cause they're taking a LOT of it.

Of course, I have no doubt it will be awesome; Nintendo's never let me down before (unless you count the Virtual Boy, but I wasn't highly anticipating that).

This just in -- Nolan Bushnell approves of the Revolution Controller.

His Words:  The 3D controller that Nintendo is on to is a very good idea. If you look at today's controller with triangles, Xs, squares and circles, it's scary. It's like a keyboard. People are interface phobic.

More Words: Complexity lost the casual gamer.

Still more of his Words: Violence lost the woman gamer.

This would be a wonderful approval if you ask me.

But what does that old man know?

Consoles are more confusing AND more popular than ever. Anyone that's willing to spend a a few hundred bucks on something is willing to find out how it works. There aren't less gamers now than in the past, there are more gamers.

Consoles might be more popular now than they were, but the fact is they're only popular to a small demographic.  There's a lot more people out there than 14-32 year old men who like John Madden and racing games.

They're more popular to much bigger demographic than 10 or 20 years ago. Back when consoles were a lot more simple.

That's all fine and dandy, but it's still only a small portion of the greater population.

And I don't know what you mean about a lot more simple.  Sure the 2600 had 1 button, but most games had all kinds of switches you had to pull to get the game set, it was a lot more confusing than current menus.

But since you know more than Miyamato and Bushnell I'm sure you're free to contribute however you want to the current market to prove them wrong.
