For retro, I'd suggest any version of Final Fantasy IV. Easy to pick up, engaging story, and plenty of platforms to choose from when playing it.

For current, might I suggest Beyond Two Souls. Definitely a good game, takes awhile and has plenty of reasons to play through again. I've already beaten it and would love to play again. Only drawbakc would be its exclusivity.

we try to cover as many people as possible, but i don't think exclusivity would stop us completely. being a collecting site there are so many people who have all or almost all modern consoles, i would be surprised if the numbers on an exclusive playthrough were much lower than a cross-platform one. the very first playthrough was The Last Story which was exclusive, and that was fairly active.

PS3 has a lot of great exclusive titles for community playthroughs, i'd be surprised if one wasn't done someday Smiley

Agree with techwizard re: exclusivity. Even though we had a small group for Fragile Dreams we had a great time.

FFIV is a good suggestion. I never finished it, but it's short, fast moving, and pretty easy.

Fleach and I have been discussing doing a Quantic Dream game since the get-go. I haven't gotten my hands on Beyond yet but it's just a matter of time.

I've been wanting to buy Beyond: Two Souls since it came out, but since there are so many games on my backlog I'm waiting for it go on sale. I be so excited to go through Indigo Prophecy, Heavy Rain, and Beyond in these playthroughs.

A game being exclusive to a certain console isn't an issue as techwizard pointed out. I'm actually biased towards the PS3 for a few reasons and so I tend to vouch for many PlayStation titles.

What do you guys think of PC games as part of the playthroughs? There are excellent retro and modern PC games.

For retro I suggest Stryder or Bionic Commando. It's been forever since I beat them.

Stryder is a fun side scrolling game where you travel back to previously places to get other items to access new areas. It has a ninja feel to it and I really enjoyed the music.

Bionic commando uses a grappling hook allowing you to move. There is no jump. This helps balance the game play fighting against enemies.

Ninja Gaiden!!

Which one? I know that the first two on the NES are affordable and fairly easy to find. However, my concern would be around the difficultly. Would this be a title that might frustrate people to the point of putting down their controller? I don't know, could be.

For the modern playthrough, I've always heard that Ninja Gaiden Black (XBox) is a phenomenal game. I own it, but have yet to get around to playing it. Anyone have any thoughts on this game? I'm curious.

For retro I suggest Stryder or Bionic Commando.

Two good suggestions. I have fond memories of Stryder growing up, but don't think it's one I have ever beaten. Bionic Commando is one of those games that I've always wanted to move to my "I finally beat this damn game" list. Again, it's difficult and it takes some time to get down the mechanics of that claw, but I think it would be a good choice if members could make the effort to stick with it.

I have never beaten Ninja Giaden. It's a fun play through but would be hard for check points since you can't put the game down and pick it back up the next day.

+1 for Bionic Commando. It's well worth the effort. Strider has its own set of problems based on platform played.

And the Genesis and NES versions are completely different I believe though I've never played the former.

FFIV is a good one, just re-acquired it and don't have a reason to play it. I like the idea of a Phantasy Star Playthrough (I-IV), Shining Force 1 or 2, Lost Vikings, Shinobi III, Castlevania: SOTN, Addams Family (sms, genesis, nes, snes), also like the Bionic Commando idea.

Those are some good ideas, Mike! I like the Phantasy Stay suggestion. It'd be nice to play a non-Nintendo RPG

I've mentioned some before, but here are some that I think could be interesting:

Streets of Rage (2 is probably the best, but they are short enough you could even do the trilogy in a month). Cheap and easy to acquire due to many compilations.

Tetrisphere - easy to acquire, many different modes, can compete for high score

Otomedius Excellent - It would be fun to have any good shooter, but this one is modern Konami, cheap, and has achievements

The Wolf Among Us - Episodic, so could wait until season is finished, or tackle them as they come out

No More Heroes - Available on Wii and PS3, interesting game, could use same achievement criteria for the Wii version, and it would give me a reason to play it again Wink

Alan Wake - Everyone tells me this is good, and a community playthrough would encourage me to sit down with it
