Music vs Game

Ever play a game that wasn't the best, but the music is what added that little bit extra that made it worth playing? Ever play a game with an exceptional soundtrack that was bigger than the game?
I thought Battle Toads vs Double Dragon on the SNES made great use of the SNES sound chip, and probably played a big role in my fondness of the game.
Anyone else have similar experiences?

Hmm, right now I can only think of games that had the opposite effect, that is to say good games with really bad music like 1942. I'm sure I'll think of one for the other side if I really sit down and think about it.

McDonalds Treasure Land Adventure on the Genesis.
I would have never played this thanks to the license and "kiddy" feel to it, except for the fact that the soundtrack is amazing. Especially the boss music. I love that.

I loved Super Adventure Island 2 for the SNES and the music made it even better, I cant remember the name of the ice island but the music still gets stuck in my head from time to time.

I'm with nester on this. i can't think of any bad games where the music made it better but i can think of the inverse. Xevious is the first to come to mind.

A good game, but further strengthened by its soundtrack, is X-Men 2: Clone Wars.
There are two things that made the music really special to this one.
1). The music is written by Information Society (Kurt Harland)
2). The music is remixed differently depending on the character you use, and if playing 2 players it would even do a crossover remix between the two different characters versions of the songs.

F.E.A.R. had music that MADE the game. Without the the music it wouldn't have been nearly as scary.

Can't believe I didn't mention this one sooner. Toshinden.
The music to this really stands out above all else, with each song even featuring a guitar solo if the battle lasts long enough.

I'd say the Donkey Kong Country series on the SNES qualify, particularly the first two. Don't get me wrong, they are fantastic games to begin with, but the excellent soundtracks really stood out since it was unexpected for that genre of game at the time.

Yes, Donkey Kong Country was something really amazing, gameplay, visuals, and sound simply blew me away, and that is saying a lot due to my dedication to Sega in those days.

Well I will say that Sim City for SNES probably would've gotten boring if it wasn't for those catchy songs, especially since they changed with every level.
