Title: RFG meet Post by: den68 on January 06, 2005, 01:01:18 PM I know we've briefly discussed this before but Nep's MI thread got me thinking. We ought to try and set up an RFG meet somewhere this spring or summer. King's Island or Cedar Point or something. We've got a big crew in the Michigan, Ohio (especially Ohio), Pennslyvania area that we should be able to get a good crew together.
If we plan something enough in advance maybe some of the gang from farther out can make it. any thoughts? Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Lord Nepenthean on January 06, 2005, 01:30:50 PM I'd be up for it for sure. I know this wouldn't be as big of a thing, but sometime when I'm on my way to Flint, I could stop longer in Detroit to meet up with you and Sauza. Or, if I drive myself up rather than taking Greyhound, I could drive down to Detroit some day while my girlfriend is at work. Usually I have all day to kill at her house with no internet access and no way of watching movies or really playing video games, so it would give me something to do while in the area.
But back to your original question - I'd be up for it. Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Tynstar on January 06, 2005, 01:43:14 PM Maybe I could go. I want to go see my brother in Redford, MI so maybe we could hook up then.
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Sureshot on January 06, 2005, 02:04:48 PM Hmm, I was thinking about going to the US in summer, there's someone in Indiana I wanna see so it's definitely a possibility.
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: sinning.dragon on January 06, 2005, 04:37:24 PM Oh man oh man, I want to go! >< And I guess if I managed it, I could drag Kyle along with me.
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Izret101 on January 06, 2005, 04:50:01 PM Quote >< I always think of Cartman when i see that. I think it would be cool I don't know how i would get transport out there though. I could figure something out though. Start saving for a plane(doubt) or bus(probable). Setting up a time/place far enough in advance like this is a good idea give enough time for peoplpe to figure out ideas. Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Zimbacca on January 06, 2005, 07:47:14 PM I'm in. Summer would work out best for me.
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: den68 on January 07, 2005, 04:57:47 AM so is the amusement park thing a good idea? Cedar Point is roller coaster heaven but King's Island have it's fair share of top notch coasters.
CP's arcade is friggin' huge. a good spot for a gamers meet. Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Zimbacca on January 07, 2005, 06:45:36 AM Sounds like a good idea to me.
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Izret101 on January 07, 2005, 06:55:20 AM Well i just found out its about 9 hours 45 minutes from here do Sandusky , 8 hours 40 min from here to Pittsburgh, 12 hours to Mason driving.
I can't remember what the name of the arcade you are abbreviating is so i assume it is between 8 and 12 hours drive time. I added Pittsburgh in there because i know last summer Greyhounds where going out there for like 60 bucks. @ Freak which idea? Den had 3. Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Zimbacca on January 07, 2005, 07:13:54 AM Any of them, although I like meeting at Ceder point best.
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Tynstar on January 07, 2005, 07:37:29 AM If I did go I can't do Cedar Point or Kings Island. I could only get together for a few hours. I don't want to leave my wife on her own for to long.
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Sauza12 on January 07, 2005, 07:37:56 AM I would definatley be up for a meet. Cedar Point would be a perfect place for it too.
Of course, there is always the spectre of a possible Cinci Classic. I've heard that it might be a spring time thing this year. Anybody else hear anything about that? Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: den68 on January 07, 2005, 07:51:44 AM The Cedar Point Arcade. Here's some of what you find inside!
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: den68 on January 07, 2005, 07:52:09 AM and more...
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: den68 on January 07, 2005, 07:52:37 AM and more...
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: den68 on January 07, 2005, 07:54:19 AM and even more. plus loads more I didn't shoot. Tekken, DDR, Drumscape, and such plus ton of pinball machines. the place is huge.
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Sauza12 on January 07, 2005, 08:11:31 AM It is the greatest arcade I have ever seen, bar none.
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Tynstar on January 07, 2005, 08:55:01 AM If they have a Ms Pac Man I am set for a couple hours with 1 dollar, |D
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Zimbacca on January 07, 2005, 10:00:37 AM I vote for meeting there.
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Lord Nepenthean on January 07, 2005, 10:18:27 AM @Sauza - CinciClassic is indeed supposedly going to happen this spring. I just stopped over by the Yahoo group that the CinciClassic crew have set up and unfortunately the last post there was October 25th, by yours truly. I put another post there just now to see if there are any new updates, so hopefully somebody will respond. About a year ago, I went to a planning meeting at Scott Veith's place. There was supposed to be another meeting the following month or month thereafter, but that never happened. CinciClassic (traditionally in the fall) got pushed off to the spring of 2005, but I haven't heard much since. Supposedly the potential locations were getting finalized, but I don't know if that ever happened. I wouldn't be surprised either way if something is about to get announced or nowhere close. Anyway, I'll keep you posted, because that could be a cool place to meet up too.
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Izret101 on January 07, 2005, 12:48:43 PM I like Freak would have to do it sometime during the summer.
If it was to be during spring it would be during a vacation of some sort. I would also be out there for more tha a day. And i am going to have to see if I can get Dan to tag along. The arcade looks extremely cool too. Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Sureshot on January 07, 2005, 05:48:20 PM I think I can always do around Easter time if people can't do summer.
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Odonadon on January 07, 2005, 08:35:34 PM Why not pick a neutral location to meet, like Canada - kind of between US and UK (if you go north)? :) Got the World's Biggest Mall not 15 minutes from my house....
OD Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Antimind on January 08, 2005, 12:02:33 AM Ok I've done a meet with quake players and I have a few thoughts on this... We should plan it for a weekend. If we plan far enough in advance and have enough interest, we can prolly get group rates on hotels and such. CP definately sounds awesome but it's also a very large place...
We are gamers given, but getting a group of us together it would be more productive to avoid places like that and opt instead for a place where we can all hang, talk, and play with handhelds or something. When we did the quake meet I took my N64 and we played in our hotel room, a shitload of us all gathered in there...lol I know there's a big group in the Cinci area so that would prolly be best though I'd have to say Pittsburgh would be a good choice. We do have a small arcade, nothin super duper special but I like it and I know the owner...lol If you wanna check it out as a possible option: http://www.gamesnat.com I seriously think that while CP is a great idea, for a first RFG meet it wouldn't be the best thing. We should concentrate on finding a locale where we can just chill and get to know each other a lil better. Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: den68 on January 08, 2005, 04:57:10 AM ah, but what better place to do that then on a giant freakin' roller coaster?
if Cinci Classic does happen that would be ideal. hell, let's just all hang out at Nep's place. I'll bring the Winnebago. Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Antimind on January 08, 2005, 10:39:26 AM Because in a park that large it's pretty easy for the group to get split up. Not to mention crowds and lines that would have to be dealt with. And expense too. For some folks just getting there would be rough.
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Izret101 on January 09, 2005, 11:14:16 AM The group rate hotel idea is good. If this gets pretty well set up early enough than it will be cheaper.
Also i disagree with the weekend. Usually during the week will be cheaper. Sometimes like $20 but sometimes more. I think that the arcade looks utterly amazing but i think Laurel has a point. It would be much easier for everyone to get split up in a huge theme park or arcade. Unless everyone has like a cell or a walkie talkie to find where everyone else is... Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Antimind on January 09, 2005, 01:49:40 PM My whole point isn't even the getting split up thing. If it's supposed to be a GROUP meet shouldn't there be a group and not a few people scattered here and there?...hehe
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Arrrhalomynn on January 11, 2005, 11:59:40 AM I might come on 2 conditions:
1. if my brother gets the job he wants in LA and I happen to be in the USA at the moment of the meet. 2. If I can get a cheap flight to wherever this meeting is being held and a place to stay. This sounds like it could be a lot of fun. Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Lord Nepenthean on January 11, 2005, 01:02:15 PM If we're not going to do Cedar Point, one option would be to get several rooms in the same hall of a state park inn in Indiana, Ohio, or wherever for that matter. When I was younger, my family and all of my cousins' families and other people all did that over New Year's at Spring Mill in Indiana. It's a beautiful lodge, it's in a nice State Park (so there are some things to do other than video games and Taco Bell in the area). They also have an indoor/outdoor swimming pool, game room, and an amazing all you can eat buffet. The one disadvantage is that it's in the middle of Indiana. Regardless, going to a place like that may be an option. Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania all have some good or great state parks that have nice inns. Michigan probably does too, though I have never been to any there (yet). I could be the only one who would want to do this, but the reason I suggest it is if Laurel's idea is what we shoot for, it may make sense to do it somewhere a little more interesting than a Holiday Inn.
Rates at Spring Mill: http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/inns/springmill/rooms.html P.S. They also have adjoining rooms. And, if we did it just in a hotel rather than a place like Cedar Point, I'd be more than willing to lug a carfull of games, TV's, and a PC or two with me. Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Sureshot on January 11, 2005, 02:42:32 PM Again, I'd have no issues going to Indiana as I wanna meet someone from there anyhow, but I'll really go anywhere as long as I get my arse into gear and sort it out.
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Izret101 on January 11, 2005, 03:47:54 PM I wouldn't be able to bring PC, consoles or TV but i had already planned on bringing controllers for all systems and definately GoldenEye. Unless someone else does.
I need to start saving lunch money... it sucks not having a job. It would be cool if some of the non-US members could be there too. Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Antimind on January 11, 2005, 09:22:08 PM I like the prices but do like the fact that smoking rooms are available. Refridgerators in rooms are the shiz.
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Izret101 on January 12, 2005, 06:01:47 AM Quote Quiet time for the entire property is 11:00 p.m.-7:00 a.m. What exactly does that mean? Quote Rooms have A/C, private bath, color TV w/satellite and telephone w/data port Very cool Quote Groups of 10 or more rooms should please contact the group sales office. So far there are approx. 10 people going correct? I know i am going to try my best to get there and bring Dan along with me. Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Lord Nepenthean on January 12, 2005, 09:22:19 AM I'll try to give them a call tomorrow. I would today but I know I won't be back from class in time.

Quiet time, (I assume) means that we have to be quiet, so basically we can't play games against each other at one in the morning. I assumed as well but I was hoping Nep would know because i have been to different places and quite time can greatly vary from establishment to establishment. Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Lord Nepenthean on January 12, 2005, 01:56:04 PM I think most places have "quiet time." My relatives are anything but quiet, so if we managed until one in the morning a lot of the time, I'm sure this group could too. Another thing I forgot to mention is that the inn also has conference rooms that are sometimes just left open. I'll ask about those when I call too. And there are other places in the midwest that would be nice too - Hocking Hills, Wayne State Park, Clifty Falls, etc., etc.
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Antimind on January 13, 2005, 02:35:01 AM I think any place that requires quiet after a certain point isn't a good idea considering the amount of night owls we have...
Well it's pretty much official as of yesterday that I won't be able to make it anyways. My dad was already pissed at the idea (cause it means spending money). I got permission to get a haircut and then my damn cell phone broke (fried). I had to replace it, only one place in Pittsburgh had an AT&T phone left (since they're now Cingular). Long story short I have an N-Gage QD (go head, laugh) and went through just over $300. Me dad is pretty pissed and seems to think it's my fault my phone decided to quit. I woulda just got my usual el cheapo, basic phone but they didn't have any :\ Told me I can hang up the meet cause it's out of the question (aside from taking the car). Anyone else's life suck?...lol Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: NESJunkie on January 16, 2005, 10:06:50 AM Wow what a great Idea! I'd love to meet everyone! I'll have to see if Mrs. Junkie and baby Junkie'd be up for the ride!!!
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: den68 on January 16, 2005, 04:19:12 PM my wife will be pleased to know she won't be the only wife being dragged along!

I don't want to leave my wife on her own for to long. It sounds like if Scott could make it his wife would be coming too. Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: den68 on January 17, 2005, 05:13:18 AM It's not like we need to ditch the wives. my wife has gone to 2 DP meets with me and she hung with the whole group. I think she had a good time and enjoyed meeting some new people. hell if my, Tynstar's and Junkie's wives all come they'll have a lot in common. they all married dorks with way to many video games! heh heh.
it could be a dual meet: RFG meet Wives of Video Game Collectors Support Group meet Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Lord Nepenthean on January 17, 2005, 08:10:20 AM Here's another idea. While I was caving this weekend, one of the guys I went with mentioned that he had rented a cabin in the Cumberland Gap area. The place was out in the middle of the mountains, and he said you could easily sleep eight in the cabin. That obviously won't be enough space for us, but I'm sure we could find a cabin or house or whatever to rent for a weekend in the vicinity of some park. That way, there are no quiet times, several private bathrooms, probably places to hook up to the net (if only through dial-up), multiple TV's for hooking up games, couches, etc., etc. And, splitting the cost would hopefully make it pretty cheap.
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: den68 on January 17, 2005, 08:57:28 AM that's a pretty good idea. maybe the possibility of some campfires, cookouts and volleyball?
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Tynstar on January 17, 2005, 09:39:31 AM If I go it will because I am going to MI this summer. My wife would not come to a game meet. She hates games and wont even try to play them :-/
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Izret101 on January 22, 2005, 08:10:55 AM I just realized as of now i have more $0 (but less than $10)saved.
Don't know if i am going to make it unless i can find at least some part time work or borrow some cash which is possible. Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: den68 on January 22, 2005, 04:52:22 PM I'm guessing this will happen sometime between May and September so you've got some time to save up.
Title: Re: RFG meet Post by: Antimind on January 23, 2005, 03:40:22 AM Me not being able to attend is almost definate at this point which really sucks ass. I've begun treatment at the chiropractor but this means I can't buy any new games or do anything fun :-\
