So anyway, here's a game I'm really on the fence about: Lollipop Chainsaw. It's a game developed by Suda51, who's also responsible for No More Heroes, Shadows of the Damned, and Killer7. He's well-known for his over-the-top satirical style in his projects.

So I want a few opinions of this game: Is it worth Day 1, or should I wait for a price drop? I missed out on No More Heroes, largely because of the timing of end-of-the-year sales and me having personal health issues. The game looks really interesting and I have hardly any action games for the PS3 other than inFamous 2, which came free with my console. The Japanese version supports dual-language audio and an option to turn the blood into hearts, but it looks like all the DLC will be available worldwide.

Thoughts? Concerns? :-\

I'm a huge Suda fan, but I'm predicting that within a month's time the price will drop (or at least it will go on sale) substantially enough that I'd kick myself for spending $60 on it. So I'm waiting a bit myself.

Like 99.9% of all new games I will wait.

I am a big No More Heroes fan, but Grasshopper games tend to drop like a rock in price. I'm waiting.

^seriously. I was able to nab a used copy of No More Heroes' PS3 port for $20 a week after it was released retailing at $40. Similarly, I got Shadows of the Damned for under $30 shortly after release.

It's hard to say Grasshopper games drop like a rock when they have a different publisher every time... But it is $45 at Amazon already. I think WB Games can be pretty aggressive with their price drops so it could drop within a couple months, but at that price, why not get it and support Suda for being Suda?

^$45 is fair. Unless it's something I feel like I need one day one (usually because of pre-order bonus) then I tend to wait for games to hit $40.

Short campaign is for sure. Replay value i guess would depend on the person though.

I already helped Suda out when I bought NMH2 on launch.

Yeah, I'm still feeling a little sore from that one too... It dropped sooo fast!

Prediction: It'll drop to $39.99 a month from now. And possibly $19.99 by the end of September.

In other words...wait.

I'm personally going to wait until I can get it for $10.

Thanks guys. This looks like a game to wait on, from the reviews. I'll try renting it first. Otherwise, $20-$30 will be my new price point. ;)

I bought it Day 1 because of the preorder perks (extra costumes). Generally I buy Suda51 and lesser known developers' games at full price because I want them to keep making games. Other stuff that isn't going anywhere, I can wait on. I also bought Gravity Rush on Day 1 for the same reasons.

I respect that principle. I think I'm going to feel the same way when XCOM: Enemy Unknown comes out in October...looking at a Day 1 buy.

I did that with Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
That didn't turn out so well for the people involved...

I don't generally buy stuff Day 1 unless it's a game I know I definitely want, as was the case with Catherine for me. Or, it's a particular genre or developer I want to support, like Xenoblade Chronicles, which I bought Day 1 despite not owning a Wii, because I want to let NoA know that RPGs have a place on their consoles too. I don't want Zelda ad nauseum despite how much I like the series.

In Lollipop Chainsaw's case, money's tight, and like I said, I was on the fence about this one. I'll get it eventually when I have the funds for it (and it really doesn't help that my high school's 20th reunion is upcoming).

I'd say wait.  Like noise said, Amazon had it for $45 pre-launch, and I think it will hit $40 MSRP by the end of July.

It one of the first games I've pre-ordered in a LONG time.  Can't remember the last one (if there was one).  I haven't been disappointed.  It's a great button masher and overall pretty good humor in the game.  Sparkle Power for the win!

I played it for around an hour at a friends house. I got bored pretty quick with it's *quirkly* setting and limited moves/scenarios. Just play God Of War and wait for the price to tumble when it gets traded in. Sidenote : does anyone else appreciate the satire in people flocking to anything with zombies in it?

well zombie-as-symbol-of consumer was kind of the point of Dawn of the Dead so...

my wife ended up buying this for me this week. It's a lot of fun. Kind of like No More Heroes without the odd-job sidequests. Or really, it's like Oneechanbara but with far more dept to the fighting moves. I'm really enjoying it.
