Title: So I got a XBOX. Post by: a_hub10 on May 28, 2012, 09:44:43 PM If you didn't see my post in the small scores thread, I picked up an original XBOX in the box for $20. Took a gamble but everything works perfectly. What are some good games for it? I know everyone says Halo, Halo 2, Shenmue 2, Fable, etc. What are your favorites?

It is really outdated due to the forum going down a few months back, but still has some posts up. The only Xbox game I have ever really played was Ninja Gaiden, which I thought was pretty fun. Post by: Izret101 on May 30, 2012, 03:52:45 PM I have a bunch of Xbox games if you can't find something or want to grab a bulk lot let me know.
Black Burnouts Chronicles of Riddick: Butcher Bay Darkwatch Doom 3 Fables(Lost Chapters did add some new stuff) Goblin Commander House of the Dead 3 Halos Kung Fu Chaos(definitely better with more people) Metal Slug series Midway Treasure series(or any) Mortal Kombats Morrowind NFS: Underground and NFS:U2 Psi-Ops (i really think this is still a sleeper hit. I wish uit would get a HD remake.) Rogue Trooper Street Series sports games (especially the soccer) Xbox had tons of great games. Try everything you never know what you might end up liking! Title: Re: So I got a XBOX. Post by: Leynos on May 30, 2012, 05:34:08 PM I'm baffled that on a forum of collectors none of you mention the 3 best games on Xbox.
Otogi Otogi 2 Phantom Dust Talent from From Softeware and Panzer Dragoon series Title: Re: So I got a XBOX. Post by: a_hub10 on May 30, 2012, 05:44:55 PM Thanks so much guys. If I can't find much locally I'll definitely get back to you Izret and I appreciate the offer. I already have Fable. What is different in Lost Chapters?
EDIT: Just looked it up on Wikipedia. Looks like I'll have to find it now. haha Title: Re: So I got a XBOX. Otogi Otogi 2 Phantom Dust Talent from From Softeware and Panzer Dragoon series I think you have gamer and collector confused. None of those titles are rare or valuable, so why would they have any significance to a collector? Title: Re: So I got a XBOX. Post by: bombatomba on May 30, 2012, 10:38:27 PM I think you have gamer and collector confused. None of those titles are rare or valuable, so why would they have any significance to a collector? To be fair, Crab, there are a number of different kinds of collector. I personally consider myself a functional collector, as the bulk of what I end up purchasing is something that I actually want to play. Now I certainly won't turn my nose up at something rare that I find while on the Hunt, but that hope isn't what keeps me coming back to the thrift stores and flea markets. Title: Re: So I got a XBOX. Post by: Izret101 on May 30, 2012, 10:48:20 PM I tried to make sure i mentioned games that had not been mentioned before (though i did mention a few)
Wasn't Phantom Dust heavily reliant on the online community(which i assume would be long gone...) to make the game worthwhile? I only played it for a few hours YEARS ago. Title: Re: So I got a XBOX. Post by: Duke.Togo on May 30, 2012, 10:57:21 PM I will have to say that a few of the titles mentioned I will second. Here are my favorites:
Panzer Dragoon Orta, Jet Grind Radio Future, SW: KotOR I & II, and Rainbow Six 3. It really is the best at emulation though. You can use it to play all sorts of things. Personally I've used it to play Turbo CD games since I don't have one. Title: Re: So I got a XBOX. Post by: Razor Knuckles on May 30, 2012, 11:06:30 PM They are the perfect system to own for emulators and are easy to soft mod and upgrade the hard drive given its mostly standard computer hardware. Thats the major draw to Xbox, running XBMC on it is great. If your into RPG's the Xbox doesn't have a very strong library of them, though there are a few good ones on there.

I collect in a similar way for the most part. From my experience though (this is obviously a generalization and doesnt decribe everyone) collectors tend to buy games faster than they play them and then tend to stick with familiar titles when they have time to game. Many people here own Otogi, but I bet the number that have played it is less than half those that own it. 2-3 times as many people are going to be Halo owners, but I bet 3 quarters or more of them have played it. Just because you are a game collector doesnt mean your gaming habits are any different than the typical persons is the point I was trying to make above. Title: Re: So I got a XBOX. Post by: Seno on May 31, 2012, 06:07:32 PM I though Otogi 2 was a bit meh, there's lot of games I would recommend before it
Title: Re: So I got a XBOX. Post by: Razor Knuckles on May 31, 2012, 08:03:17 PM Yeah Crabby I fall into that collector category more than gamer category. Sadly I will pick up like 4 NES games at a thrift store and just clean and test them. I play them for a couple of minutes too see if they work then into the storage unit they go. Hey it's what working 60+ hours a week will do to you! I really wish I could play my games :(
Title: Re: So I got a XBOX. Post by: techwizard on May 31, 2012, 08:33:26 PM i have time on my hands but the majority of my games don't get much love beyond the test period either. i know i'll never have time to finish every game in my collection so i don't like to get too attached to every game i try, i'd rather stick with the ones i really want to play and finish what i can.

No flame wars here you guys, its all in a personal preference. We all have personal likes. Thats what makes us unique. Well said, sir! Diversity is the spice of life, especially in videogames. A few years ago I thought about trying to get another Xbox, but knowing there is a good chance the console will have a defective optical drive, not even mentioning hunting down a set of component cables and a Type-S controller kept me away. I gave up before I began. Now all this talk has got me interested again, but money troubles have kept me away from The Hunt. Once my money troubles end (i.e., I get a new job) I'll think I'll start keeping an eye out for one. That or maybe I can try for a trade... Title: Re: So I got a XBOX. Post by: a_hub10 on June 01, 2012, 05:24:08 PM In my area no one wants anything to do with the Xbox. Its going to make collecting for this thing a breeze. I want to find a Halo Edition just because I like the green. I'll probably end up modifying this one.

I would love to find a Mountain Dew edition but I highly doubt it will happen. I know the Halo edition isn't rare by any means, I just think it looks cool. If only ebay sellers would understand that. haha Title: Re: So I got a XBOX. Post by: Izret101 on June 01, 2012, 09:35:34 PM I remember when it first came out the Halo controllers were over 100$s a piece on eBay.
I never did end up buying 3 to round out my collection :) Title: Re: So I got a XBOX. Post by: raptor94k on June 02, 2012, 12:58:40 AM Speaking of getting an Xbox, I just got one too! I'll have to check out some of these games that have been mentioned.
I was sort of interested in using mine as an emulator as well. I am actually in a situation now where it would be a little easier to have my Xbox hooked up than to keep swapping out systems. So how is the emulation for earlier systems (i.e. NES, SNES, Genesis)? What about as you get into newer stuff like N64, Saturn, PS1? Title: Re: So I got a XBOX. Post by: Duke.Togo on June 02, 2012, 08:20:04 AM 16-bit emulation and earlier is fantastic on the Xbox. After that I wouldn't recommend it. It's dead simple to soft mod one, and playing classic games in 1080i is fun sometimes. I'm not a huge emulation guy, but I use it for fan translated ROMs and Turbo CD games.
Title: Re: So I got a XBOX. Post by: raptor94k on June 02, 2012, 12:21:33 PM Lame. I was hoping that I would be able to play Saturn and Sega CD games on it and have an easy way to save games without having to get RAM carts and what not...

I was hoping that I would be able to play Saturn and Sega CD games on it and have an easy way to save games without having to get RAM carts and what not... Sega CD games are still 16-bit. It should be fine. Title: Re: So I got a XBOX. Post by: gamer2112 on June 06, 2012, 09:49:02 AM Yeah, NeoGenesis emulates Sega CD pretty well.
Still no working Saturn emulation though. Modded Xboxes with emulators and huge hard drive upgrades show up on Ebay once in a while. That's where I got mine. Title: Re: So I got a XBOX. Post by: MrFrumble on June 06, 2012, 01:36:55 PM I just completed my xBox mod project last night. I soft modded it and upgraded the HD to a spare 80GB I had laying around. For software, I'm running the full set of CoinOPS 4 (R10). It took a little time to put this all together.
I played around with it for an hour last night. It is pretty amazing to have access to 3300+ games at your finger tips and the interface for CoinOPS is pretty slick. However, I've noticed one problem. The d-pad on the original xBox controller SUCKS! It was almost impossible to do a dragon punch with it. I'm going to have to figure out another control method, if I'm going to spend any time with it. Title: Re: So I got a XBOX. Post by: Seno on June 06, 2012, 02:36:54 PM Seems like the D-pad on most controllers now is an afterthought, not sure if it will support it or not, but you could make a USB to xbox cable and plug a decent joystick into it.
Title: Re: So I got a XBOX. Post by: NeoMagicWarrior on June 06, 2012, 07:19:05 PM arcade sticks work wonders.....so do ps2->xbox converter cables.
Title: Re: So I got a XBOX. Post by: MrFrumble on June 07, 2012, 08:06:22 AM I've found what I would like, unfortunately I don't think I will be able to track one down very easily:
http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-gm-49-en-70-1gk.html Let's you use Saturn, PS2, and Dreamcast controllers on the original xBox. Title: Re: So I got a XBOX. Post by: MrFrumble on June 07, 2012, 08:19:27 AM Just bought the only one on eBay for $30 (Ouch!) Now, I'm going to need a second one.
The idea of using the Saturn pad was just too tempting. The Japanese Saturn/US Model 2 is second best pad ever made (I think I like the original 6-button Genesis pad a little more.) |
