the extra media for this submission is sort of a mess. #1 and #2 are pics of the same poster, #3 seems to be the reverse side of that, and #4 (for which i just uploaded a replacement) is the actual reverse side of the standard inlay i have here. don't have any poster myself, preorder stuff it seems, but if my assessment is correct 'extra media' should include one entry for the reverse cover and one for each side of the poster, renamed to reflect that. EDIT: Reverse Cover is the replacement. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Bildtstar on November 22, 2013, 05:28:52 AM Move to Multiple Consoles:

It's meant to be entered as advertised on the box. Was it sold as hardware with a bundled game, or a game with bundled hardware? In the case of Link's Crossbow Training, it was the Wii Zapper bundled with Link's Crossbow Training. With Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, it was Resident Evil with a bundled Wii Zapper. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: ae.tc on May 23, 2014, 11:40:43 AM ok,. wii is over-loaded with bundles.. -- i have the jpn version (bowgun training), i'll enter as a hardware bundle
Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: tactical_nuke on May 26, 2014, 08:43:11 PM Yeah Link's Crossbow annoys me. Can't we have just the game as a separate item? I know Metroid Prime Hunters Demo has its own, even though it was only available bundled with the original DS.
Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on May 27, 2014, 12:03:05 PM Tbh, that's been the trend - people keep adding NFR/Pack-in versions of games to the database just so they can track the component, and it's gotten to the point where it's overwhelming. One of the first things I'm going to re-write when I eventually get to the collection tools.
Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: mumboking on June 09, 2014, 02:12:23 PM I'm trying to submit a XBOX Burnout variation, but:
"This variation appears already in the database for the selected Entry. Check via the search page to see if this variation is not in the database already." No, it's not there... Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on June 09, 2014, 02:42:42 PM Sadly, I've encountered this a bit recently as well if a "Best Seller" type title is in the database already. Please put either an extra letter or two in the title or a variation title (e.g. Original), and put in the Submission Comments that it's the original version and shouldn't have a Variation Title.
Here's the Xbox Classics version in the DB, for reference: http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=E-075-S-03160-A Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: mumboking on June 09, 2014, 02:47:08 PM Please put either an extra letter or two in the title or a variation title (e.g. Original), and put in the Submission Comments that it's the original version and shouldn't have a Variation Title. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on June 19, 2014, 08:13:25 PM Think that's intentional, based on whether or not the person has it in multiple folders with the "Owned" attribute.
In this particular case, the person has it in their "Collection" folder and a "PS-2" folder. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: mumboking on June 23, 2014, 09:26:10 AM http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=E-087-S-06300-A
Whoever approved this changed the console to Nintendo DS. This is a Nintendo Wii game, and I submitted it as such... It is pretty strange looking at a "DS" game released on a Wii Optical Disc. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on June 23, 2014, 09:32:13 AM Weird ... I approved it, but not sure how it changed to DS unless it automagically changed when I pulled the wrong variation. Go ahead and resubmit it. Thanks.

Let's hope that doesn't happen again. :PEDIT: Also, I think I just figured out how it may be possible to set the media format to anything on any console... I'm tempted to test it, but I don't want to mess up the DB. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on June 23, 2014, 09:42:44 AM Thanks! Should be good now. Incidentally, GameFAQs has it listed completely wrong too, including having scans of the Game Boy Parker Bros. version on it. That's a black cartridge and the box for that game has the GBC logo on it, I'm absolutely sure that listing is correct.Correct it is GBC. Project N and Shadow are wrong. Example: http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-069-S-02720-A&type=bf With the GB/GBC games unless you know what you are looking for you can easily make the mistake since MANY GBC carts were not labeled as Color unless you have the full package. In fact i would be willing to bet fewer have Game Boy Color on the cart than Game Boy. Again here: http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-069-S-02830-A No mention of Color unless you own the whole package. One more for good measure http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-069-S-02190-A Looks like 2001 was when they finally started putting the GameBoy Color bubble carts into production and by that time the system was already being phased out by the GBA Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on July 28, 2014, 09:12:09 AM Seriously? :'(
Technically, the cartridge is a Game Boy cartridge with "support" for the Game Boy Color palette, but I wasn't aware they did different packaging. I'm scared for the Game Boy/Game Boy Color Europe database now, as they had a lot of mixed releases. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Izret101 on July 28, 2014, 11:28:07 AM Pretty much the release year should be a good giveaway. The GBC branding I believe is on every game released 99 and later But additions should not be being made without verification from a total package.
THANKS NINTENDO FOR THE MULTIPLE YEARS OF OVERLAP FOR EVERY HANDHELD SYSTEM! Luckily everything else had unique media formats. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on July 28, 2014, 11:51:14 AM Luckily, the games themselves have individual Part #s. It's just the console that's wrong.

No the black cart Color games are DMG only the Clear/Bubble carts have CGB as the part number prefix. Unless Apollo knows otherwise. There are fewer than 500 released Gameboy color games (barring the variants). Now that people are aware of it they know how to properly research to make sure they are not adding/approving games incorrectly. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on July 28, 2014, 02:48:37 PM It looks like Apollo is fixing a lot of them right now. Thanks!
I meant exactly what you said - DMG carts are the dual and CGB are Color-only, much like DS and DSi games had separate Part # prefixes. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: techwizard on August 10, 2014, 12:50:47 AM not sure why but while uploading some stuff last night i noticed a lot of extra media links didn't have a
Code: <br /> http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-016-S-04200-A it happened with those extra media scans too, not sure if it's the approver's fault or the site doing something, but i submitted them the same way i always have. i'd just rather not have to keep submitting page edits for something that should be right the first time ;) Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: ApolloBoy on September 07, 2014, 01:55:26 PM GameFAQs says 1987, which is why I suspect it's listed as 1987. Looks like a few sources say 1986, and MobyGames hilariously states 1984 (2600 release date). I'll look at it in a bit. I'm actually fairly positive 1987 is the correct release year. I've got some internal Atari sales docs that were shared on AtariAge by Curt Vendel years ago, and Gremlins didn't even show up in the 1986 sales figures (which went from January 1 of that year to January 1, 1987).Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: tactical_nuke on September 08, 2014, 05:22:47 PM Here's an issue I can't edit: There are a couple of outlying entries under Tiger Handhelds that are listed as Hardware rather than Software. Only one of them is an actual accessory.
Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on September 08, 2014, 07:38:49 PM We're working on a method to transfer between databases for Staff members. For now, you have to make a new submission under the appropriate database.
Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: junkwaffle on September 22, 2014, 03:22:47 PM I believe this entry might be mistaken. I think the game was released as WiiU-ware on the eShop, not as Wii-ware, as listed. Moved to Nintendo eShop. Thanks! Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: RetroExplorer on September 23, 2014, 01:06:24 AM Needs "Road to the Final Victory" added to the name. EDIT: Technically, the series is "Garou Densetsu" or "Garō Densetsu", depending on the version of the Hepburn spelling you use, in Japanese. I updated the name to reflect the Japanese translation, and added the American title to the Alt Title. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: MetalFRO on December 25, 2014, 06:41:25 PM Where do we submit info for games that don't have listings yet? For example, I have original US versions of Revenge of Shinobi and Shadow Dancer, but only the later "Sega Classics" pressing is in the database. Shinobi III on the Genesis doesn't seem to appear at all...
Also, Streets of Rage 2 originally came out in 1992 in North America, but the database listing shows 1993. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on December 25, 2014, 07:31:54 PM You can do it from the Game Info page. For the missing ones, those would be considered variations (version of the same game on the same console), which can also be submitted from a related Game Info page.

Needs to be under NEW 3ds Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Boshamp on February 06, 2015, 01:47:20 AM but "new" is undercase on the box. ;)
Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: tactical_nuke on February 06, 2015, 02:10:01 AM but "new" is undercase on the box. ;) Eh, alright. It still needs console to be moved from regular 3DS to new, that's what I was originally talking about.Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Boshamp on February 06, 2015, 08:05:49 AM I would compare it to the Game Boy Micro in the GBA era. Although it is technically different from the system it is categorized under, it would likely still be under the original 3DS since it is not a new generation console release, just a different one within the same generation.
Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on February 06, 2015, 08:35:09 AM New 3DS is equivalent to DSi - new console, since there will be games specifically created for it, but it supports the current line of games as well.
Micro was just form factor difference. There were no Micro titles. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: SirPsycho on February 06, 2015, 08:49:37 AM I would separate it since the hardware in the new 3DS is different from the original, its more like the DSi compared to the original DS line.
Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Raidou on February 06, 2015, 11:33:06 PM To support SK and SirPsycho's statements: It is confirmed that the Xenoblade Chronicles port won't run on the older model 3DS due to processing limitations, so yeah it will have to be a separate console for DB purposes.
Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Boshamp on February 08, 2015, 03:32:00 PM But will the games be labeled as "new" 3DS games as well? Or will they be branded as just 3DS? I didn't know there were DSi games separate from plain ol' DS stuff.
Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on February 08, 2015, 04:56:57 PM The games haven't been released yet, but it has been CONFIRMED that there will be games that can only run on the New Nintendo 3DS.
There were very few DSi-only games, and many DSi-enhanced games. Foto Showdown is probably the most known one, but the list itself is extremely small (and we've identified a couple that aren't listed here): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_DSi#Software_library Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Boshamp on February 08, 2015, 10:41:12 PM So these games beared a different label art to specify they would only work on the DSi, it seems. If the "new" 3DS stuff had a label art that worked similarly, it would make it much easier for us to document.

Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on April 28, 2015, 12:10:46 PM It looks like the Front scans are missing. The image files exist on our FTP server, and wouldn't be subject to the normal data loss that the site has gone through in the past. A missing image would've been caused by a corrupt file or bad path, and the file itself doesn't exist on our FTP server... With that being said, I see that the database states that an image was submitted at one point for the Box Front, and I see the submission from back in February on the Box Front image, but no image exists for it. Odd. I'd have to check the server logs to see what may have happened on the submission, and see if the image just failed to upload to the server.

I admit that "Amiibo Splatoon: X" does look a bit weird, but I think it's technically more accurate than what we are doing now (Amiibo X [Splatoon]). Maybe "Amiibo: X (Splatoon)"? ATM collection names are only included as part of the title iff the character appears in multiple collections, and that's a part of the variation title. The problem is that amiibo from different collections aren't variations of each other (or at least not how we've been using the term 'variation' in the DB). We don't consider "Final Fantasy" for the PSP to be a variant of "Final Fantasy" for the Wonderswan Colour, so we shouldn't be treating Mario (Super Mario Collection) to be a variant of Mario (Super Smash Bros. Collection). Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on January 06, 2016, 11:48:47 AM I've not seen the game sold standalone in US retail stores, no. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Schlibby on January 06, 2016, 12:23:28 PM Thats the case with the releases of all the infinity games all over the world as far as Im aware. Its probably so 2nd hand retailers have something to scan when dopey people loose/destroy the outer box.
Nintendo also do it with their game hardware bundles. And Im sure other manufacturers also do it Both UPCs should probably be listed under the main entry eg 0123456789 | 987654321. But i dont think it warrants a seperate entry (that would be different if the outer box was listed under hardware eg Links crossbow training). Thoughts? First off, this entry is the "Retail Release": http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-202-S-00860-A While this entry should be the "Not for Resale" / Wii U bundled version but is labeled as the Retail release: http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-202-S-00861-A The "not for resale" / bundled version has a different UPC then the retail version and came in a blue DVD case as opposed to the later retail release that came in a red DVD case. The entry that is labeled as the retail release in the database also as the incorrect part number. Should be "WUP P ATWE USZ" The years are also swapped... the retail release came out in 2015 while the bundled version came out in 2013. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Bear78 on October 09, 2016, 06:36:44 PM Not exactly sure where to post this but I'm using the tool to find missing images for entries in my collection and on the IBM/PC area it's showing games as not needing scans but when I click on them, they are missing the front box scan. For example, Age of Empires Gold, II and II's expansion were not showing as "Scans needed" but none of them had the front of the box scan. I have submitted images for them but just wanted to give you a heads up as it's showing up wrong in the tool.
Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on October 09, 2016, 10:22:46 PM We had an issue a while back where ALL of our Front Box scans for IBM PC disappeared off our server, but the scans were never removed by the system so the flag was never updated. I'll see about finding out which ones are wrong. Thanks for the heads-up.

One of them (Unreal) hasn't been that long but the other one (Guitar Hero Controller) has been a few weeks. I know on that one I hit enter before filling everything out so not sure if that's why it got hung up or not. Let me know if you need something from me.

Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Bear78 on October 28, 2016, 11:58:06 AM Yeah, I got about 20 submissions rejected by Fleebitten saying "needs to be at least 550 pixels on the short side, not the longer side". It was strange as some submissions for 1 game got approved while others didnt (front vs back) and the image was scaled the same on both. I'll have to double check it later today and re-submit them.
Also, posted this on the previous page so you might not have seen it. looks like something might be wrong with the cover image for NES 1942 http://www.rfgeneration.c...027-S-00020-B&type=bf Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on October 28, 2016, 03:00:51 PM The images are supposed to be 550px on the short side, though there is some inconsistency on whether or not to accept images of other dimensions.

You could implement an automatic check that will reject an image if one of the dimensions is less than 550px.I see the upload page is using PHP, so this should help: http://php.net/manual/en/function.getimagesize.php What's wrong with the image? Give me a little bit of time for things to calm down around the house. I just graduated, and have more time, but my wife has her PhD residency next week. I'll have time then to do something.
The problem is not rejecting an image if it's 550px or not. The problem is scaling to 550px, and doing it intelligently, as I don't want to reject someone's image just because it's not 550px. It doesn't accomplish my end goal of allowing images to be submitted from mobile. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: tactical_nuke on October 28, 2016, 03:58:27 PM 1 game got approved while others didnt My bad, you can resubmit that one if you like. I guess I actually read the photo upload instructions wrong up to this point. I read it as the photo cannot exceed 550px on one side, not just the short side. I've been scaling the long side down to 550px on all my submissions.

Not that I was given much in the first place... might be a good idea to delete it. Considering it's Rajaat, and Regionwide, it's likely a Humble Bundle release. I believe that's supposed to be Anomaly Warzone Earth, which after the release of Anomaly 2 was known as just "Anomaly". Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: tactical_nuke on November 16, 2016, 02:57:30 AM Not exactly an error but I guess it's something to note: I noticed Tom and Jerry for SNES had a Majesco release that wasn't in the DB so I added it:
http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-044-S-06360-B It came with scans already added to the page. I'm guessing the title existed at some point and got deleted so when the page came into existence again the pics point at their respective title. I think I've seen it happen before. Only problem is that the credits for the uploader are no longer there. :( Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Bear78 on November 16, 2016, 03:34:22 PM Saturday Morning RPG [Soundtrack] (U-215-S-02151-A) should really be deleted or merged with the normal Saturday Morning RPG ( U-215-S-02150-A) entry. Just add with the title "Wheel of Fortune PLEASE DELETE THIS TEXT" with a submission note explaining and we will sort when approving. But how come you are trying to put 2005 as the year if made in 1995? A change of region is in reality creating a duplicate in the correct region. Copying all data and images. Moving over collection info and then deleting the old one Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Schlibby on August 23, 2017, 06:08:00 PM Just had a look at that lethal enforcers ii. That is obviously a BBFC logo on it. However it does have the multiple European languages which is what we generally use to determine which countries to assign it to. Wouldn't be unheard of for a UK certification to be stuck on a pan-European release back in the day (this is before PEGI was introduced and I believe ratings were optional).
The database is thankfully moving away from generic European releases so really the game should at least be assigned to each of the countries corresponding to the languages on the box. This would make more sense with e.g. Toze's Portuguese specific releases. But then just about every mega drive game in the database is set to European so would be a huge job for someone to update that without much real payoff. It's more relevant for non-Sega releases where every country would get its own variant. Agree, for Sega retro games, except the dreamcast, I would say that 95% of the games titles have an European region wide variation. So going to change all that to only the languages of the box isn't the most correct and will be a huge job. There are some games that had translations for German, because Germany was a big market, besides that most of the games are in English, and some could have French and Spanish to choose. In Portugal we get a lot of repack in that time, made by Ecofilmes, so we get imports from the Pal , genesis and also a Japanese game that came with an adaptor. Most of then have repackaged box, reprinted or with stickers with Portuguese description, rating, part# and some with Portuguese UPC. In some cases it's a great confusion, but I'm working on that with others Portuguese collectors. Even now we have repackaged games by ecofilmes, now it's ecoplay, because they have the rights for square enix, Sega, konami, and others. Occasionally the system will incorrectly flag a duplicate and the title trick will allow it to go theough Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Bear78 on February 09, 2018, 12:34:43 PM Ah, I tagged it as a alternative publisher but didn't put anything in the variation field. LRG is releasing Phantom Breaker on Vita (http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-189-S-02470-A) and it had a "physical" release in Japan which was just a download code in a box (http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=J-189-S-00860-A). Should these be linked as a variation or just as an associated release? Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Raidou on August 10, 2018, 08:06:14 AM by our standards, they're variants, as they relate to design changes to the outer box (well, cover inlay).
Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: toze3 on August 10, 2018, 09:13:10 AM Just did a quick search on ebay, just to be sure all manuals and carts (assembled in Uk) and looks like so.
The minor difference is the CE logo, being the most commum the variation without the CE logo. So will create the other 2 variations The without CE will not add any variation title, and the other two I'm thinking in: For the existing one -> [CE Logo - White BKG] New entrie - [CE Logo - No BKG] PS- I'm thinking in not adding the name "Logo" just to be shorter. and add the extra photos and trivia on all of them. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Raidou on August 10, 2018, 09:24:22 AM "White CE" and "Hollow CE" may be more concise. these are also the terms used to describe NES seals.
Not much point in having the trivia if all 3 variations are in the db, and the extra media image are redundant if they are present on their respective entries. While it is arguable what is appropriate for the "Extra Media" section, I'm of the opinion that any "Extra Media" images should be directly related to the variant itself. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: toze3 on August 10, 2018, 09:30:02 AM Thanks I like that, even shorter!!
DONE. Just add for now the back cover that show the difference, because need to scan the other parts of the game, and I just scanned the back box for the trivia. About Extra media, I agree, besides we need to have the ability to have images on RFG server for Trivia. And possible exist one for Germany(-18), but didnt find any. All have the same EAN/UPC EU Part# 1098-50 (spine) / 670-5449-50 (above EAN) / 672-2007-50 (Multilanguage Manual) <-The one is on DB ES Part# 5449-06 (spine) / 670-5449-06 (above EAN) / no info, but smaller manual (less pages than EU) FR Part# 5449-09 (spine) / 670-5449-09 (above EAN) / no info but smaller manual (less pages than EU) UK Part# 5449-05 (spine) / 670-5449-05 (above EAN) / 672-2007-05 (English Manual - Same P# of the Brick Version) Should I create the variants or leave the information on Trivia? About the Brick UK: Part# 670-5448-50 (Cartridge) / 670-5449-50 (above EAN) / 672-2007-05 (English Manual - Same P# of the Brick Version) Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Raidou on August 17, 2018, 06:02:12 AM Each of these variations have an observable difference in the cover inlay, so they should be separate entries- ESPECIALLY if some of those variants are specific to a single country.
Also, while we're on the topic of PAL Mega Drive (and by extension Master System): I've noticed that Australian releases published by Sega often have a unique clamshell case identifying the distributor (Ozisoft or Sega Ozisoft) in the plastic itself. Are there any other PAL countries that do this? Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: toze3 on August 17, 2018, 10:38:46 AM For master system I think it's only ozisoft.
Of course the tec toy, but thats brazil, but all games run in PAL consoles, I have some, and there was some imports from there by ecofilmes, being the most know the portuguese purples. (box and cart were produced by Tec toy in Manaus, Brazil). There are one cases that have some kind of tape on the sides, but I haven't yet figured their origin. Some are found here in Portugal, they look like to came from Australia, but there are some UPC codes that relate to Sounth Africa, but could be some store specific UPC, because I don't find ownership for any of the UPC I found. Regarding MEGA DRIVE I'm finding a lot of small variants of Mega Drive games, specially for Codemasters games released on UK with diferent covers and codes near the UPC . (Just bought 70 games from Uk and I'm cataloging them ehehe) Codemasters code examples, with minor changes on the box: -Brian Lara Cricket (UK)- [V1] and [001057 V2] - Same cart, only have V1 with manual -Brian Lara Cricket 96 (UK) - [1508-V1] and ?? -Sampras Tennis 96 (UK)- [1103 V1] and [1103 V2] - Cart and manual equal -Micro Machines Turbo Tournament 96 (UK) - [1275 V1] -Super SkidMasters (UK) - [1329 V1] -Super SkidMasters (EU) - [1332 V1] -> this is on DB with UK variatin images, both have the same UPC Also the TENGEN games, have in some cases releases with coloured manual and others black&white And finnaly have to change also the streets of rage II, because there are at least 3 variations in europe Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: toze3 on August 17, 2018, 11:11:46 AM Also other issue is this game:
http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=E-040-S-01440-A It have specific country list, but maybe is better to classify as euro wide. The portuguese version is a repack of this, with portuguese manuals and stickers with description/overview. And by last but not the least: The mega drive/genesis ballistic/accolade releases (cardboard boxes), they are most of then in USA, but at the beggining I had a reject submission for the Euro variation, and started a discussion by making this as worldwide releases...in my opinion they should be US like they are now and also Euro, because most of them had repacked manuals in French/German... Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Duke.Togo on August 19, 2018, 08:42:53 PM For some reason the quote button isn't working, but - if there are variants, they can be added with appropriate indications of changes as long as there is an identifier. If it is same game in a different regions box, please just be sure it is a true variant and now a cobbling together of different items after the fact.
If Fantastic Dizzy needs fixed, please post in the incorrect region thread and I will fix. If the same game was resold in Europe from Accolade and they changed the manuals, that would be a separate item. From what you are describing, I wouldn't classify that as worldwide. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: tactical_nuke on October 08, 2018, 11:05:36 PM Most Plug and Play games are in the DB as software, even compilation ones. I don't think there's rules established for this, but I think listing them all as software is the right choice, otherwise they'd all be seperate consoles, no?
Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Duke.Togo on October 08, 2018, 11:28:13 PM The reason it caught me is there are game images, but not hardware images. Not sure if I can move images across types, but I could try.
There seems to be a mix of how they are entered. We probably need a standard going forward. Thoughts? Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: tactical_nuke on October 08, 2018, 11:56:46 PM Ah, I see. I can resubmit the NA pics if you can't move them. I'm voting for having all Plug & Play entries stay as/change to software. Stand-alone handhelds go by the same logic. You can't swap games out so they should be classified as a single game. The Pong Console console-type has the same problem. Half of them are systems and the others are software. We should assess which ones use swappable cartridges and make them full-fledged consoles.
Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Duke.Togo on October 12, 2018, 06:03:18 PM I have mixed feelings on this, as hardware means hardware in general, not particularly a console. So these mini consoles actually are hardware that play multiple games, although not removable or changeable.

Stuff like Action Replays and Game Genies. I know you don't "play" them but technically aren't they software? Especially the disc version ones.
About the only ones I would consider Hardware would be the Saturn and PS1 Action Replays as they actually plug into different ports then the game port. Just a random thing I always thought was a little strange. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Duke.Togo on October 15, 2018, 07:53:14 PM If they are physical devices, they are typically going to be entered as hardware.

Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Goodwill_Gamer on October 19, 2018, 04:06:19 AM I have noticed two duplicate entries in the database that should be somehow resolved.
Both the NES and SNES classic editions are entered as hardware under the respective consoles and as software under plug and play TV games. NES classic: 1. http://www.rfgeneration.com/PHP/gethwinfo.php?ID=U-027-H-01010-A 2. http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-00J-S-01580-A SNES classic: 1. http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-00J-S-01570-A 2. http://www.rfgeneration.com/PHP/gethwinfo.php?ID=U-044-H-00620-A It appears this may be the case for several regions as well. For consistency it seems they should only be in one category. This may also bring up a broader question of how should these "classic" consoles be handled in the database? Are they all considered "Plug & Play TV Games", a part of the console they are based on, or their very own new category of "Classic Consoles"? It may be sensible to make a category exclusively for throwback consoles like these as more are hitting the market with the NEO GEO and and upcoming Playstation adding to the field. Not sure where else to put this - this isn't compatible with the Nintendo 64, so I think this should be removed from the Nintendo 64 DB. The controller ends in a phone jack-style connector and was only utilized with a hotel service. Here's a better look at the cable end: https://www.ebay.com/i/173667289626?chn=ps I don't think it should necessarily be deleted, but it doesn't belong in the Nintendo 64 side of the DB. What's the general consensus on something like this? http://rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-040-S-04211-A This game got both a clamshell and a cardboard re-release. There is only one entry for it in the database. I'm assuming the clamshell was first. Do you modify the existing entry to specify it's a clamshell or do you just add an additional entry for the cardboard one and not do anything with the original? clamshell: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Pacman-2-The-New-Adventures-Sega-Genesis-Complete-S2G/232697325631?epid=1700273079&hash=item362dd7683f:g:srwAAOSwgc1aqJdJ:sc:USPSFirstClass!62040!US!-1:rk:12:pf:0 cardboard: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Sega-Genesis-PAC-MAN-2-The-New-Adventures-RARE-Cardboard-BOX-Vers-COMPLETE-MINT/153321725608?epid=2636&hash=item23b2afdea8:g:5jkAAOSw~jJaryDW:rk:33:pf:0 Both are Ballistic re-releases. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Schlibby on January 14, 2019, 12:57:50 PM I always add a variation title for any game that doesn’t come as a standard release for that console (assuming that game has variants of course). Original releases can always have a variant title if it clarifies something unusual.
I actually extend variant titles to unusual games even if they don’t have variants in some cases. Eg download (where not a download platform), code in box, homebrew etc Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Bear78 on January 14, 2019, 01:03:41 PM Maybe I should have been more clear on my question.
The current entry is "Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures [Accolade/Ballistic Rerelease]" This doesn't specify the release as clamshell or cardboard. So, should the current entry be changed to "Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures [Accolade/Ballistic Rerelease - Clamshell]" and then add a second entry "Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures [Accolade/Ballistic Rerelease - Cardboard]" OR should it just be left as "Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures [Accolade/Ballistic Rerelease]" and add a new entry called "Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures [Accolade/Ballistic Rerelease - Cardboard]"? Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: tactical_nuke on January 14, 2019, 03:29:21 PM Since both entries are Accolade rereleases, they should both have variant titles that help tell them apart. Since there’s no unique part number/upc/scans to pinpoint which one the current page is, your first option is best in this situation.

That looks very much like the bundles I remember being created by Sam's Club themselves, and judging by the non-Nintendo UPC on the back of the packaging I feel 95% confident in saying that Nintendo never released this. Do we keep track of these things? Or should something like this be removed? Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: Schlibby on May 25, 2019, 03:03:50 PM I would say we do allow stuff like this if it can be proved and do en mass by a major retailer. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: blcklblskt on September 17, 2019, 10:25:05 PM International Superstar Soccer 64 is a bit of a mess of a release - it was initially released in Japan as Jikkyou J.League Perfect Striker in December '96 (https://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=J-064-S-01080-A), and later received an international release in '97 as International Superstar Soccer 64 (https://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-064-S-01030-A). However, later in '97, Konami released an updated version exclusively for the Japanese market as Jikkyou World Soccer 3 (https://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=J-064-S-01510-A). We currently link World Soccer 3 to the Superstar Soccer 64 releases, but based on the part numbers I'm leaning towards making Perfect Striker as the variant and removing the variations from the World Soccer 3 listing.
The game pak IDs: Perfect Striker: NUS-NJPJ-JPN Superstar Soccer: NUS-NJPE-USA World Soccer 3: NUS-NJ3J-JPN Because N64 game pak IDs tend to have the same initial three letters after NUS (NJP) for these releases, I think we should remove World Soccer 3 (NJ3) from the other variations and make Perfect Striker the variation instead. Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: blcklblskt on September 30, 2019, 04:19:03 PM International Superstar Soccer 64 is a bit of a mess of a release - it was initially released in Japan as Jikkyou J.League Perfect Striker in December '96 (https://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=J-064-S-01080-A), and later received an international release in '97 as International Superstar Soccer 64 (https://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-064-S-01030-A). Hmmm. Just looked these up in a guide book I have and it matches them up in the same way they already are in the database. So I'd be hesitant to change the variations without knowing more about the content differences across the 3 versions. Got it - I would tend to default to the game pak ID, but a guide is probably a good indicator of which variant is which. Thanks for the help! I did select each of the countries that showed up to see if maybe it was listed under them titles but they weren't. Also, when I go to add, choose US, PS4, Software, and search for little nightmare it doesn't come up. I also did a search for little in both cases and it doesn't come up. This Little Nightmares is a North American region release (has English, French and Spanish on the box) so won’t show up if you search purely for US Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: shaggy on September 01, 2021, 08:53:44 PM When you pick US do you also tick the box to show region wide releases? It's basically the collector's edition with a couple extra goodies tacked on. I think I was confused by the semi official-looking promotional graphics here - https://www.webhallen.com/se/product/195604-Dark-Souls-II-2-Webhallen-Edition-incl-Early-Access-Weapons-Pack I'd just drop it from the database. EDIT: Oh yeah to clarify - it didn't have unique packaging, it really was just the collector's edition (http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=E-131-S-04700-A) with some extra items on the side. We dont concern ourselves too much with where the variants were actually sold. It would create a massive headache and just wouldnt work. However we try not to do generic Europe as the site would end up like all the other sites on the internet that dont track European variants at all. So generally we use box languages to determine the country. Ie English = UK, French = France etc. So regarding the release you mention, if the language is English only then just leave it as UK. If it has French and Dutch on the box with equal prominence then add France and Netherlands Title: Re: Game / Hardware database errors Post by: kaysow on November 29, 2021, 11:38:06 PM Yeah, I usually go by languages on the inlay and my own copy received yesterday from the NISA European online store is currently in the submission cue. Got a whole bunch of games in my order and they're all UK english only - Problem is that the version already in the db (http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=E-215-S-05880-A, EAN 0810023033240) was already set to UK english only without any pics so I had to give mine one of those weird variation titles. I guess without any scans of the previously submitted version my print will have to keep the weird variant title, I just have my suspicions that the old one isn't UK exclusive. No way to tell for sure tho =P too bad I can't find any scans with that EAN on eBay.

It has both English and French on the back. Not sure what the market is as both a pure English exists (yours) and pure French. It came with a buncha bonuses but I didn't give it any variant name for editions because it didn't say so, other than on a sticker on the wrapping. I used to be more reluctant to use the variant name feature if a release looked like it was the only edition available. Even when they call it "Day One Edition" or something like that (for example http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-189-S-01100-A). Anyway, another user did add a version with the same EAN and called it the CE and I think that's a double and should be deleted - http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=E-095-S-03310-B Also I should probably add "Collector's Edition" to the first version. before realizing it's actually a double of this release here - http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=E-240-S-00380-A that was admitted later into the db. Since I created a variation from the original, the region is showing Europe. The game was developed in Europe I believe and it was originally published in Europe I think. The variation I created was published by Songbird Productions, which is an American company. Should the region be changed? Can it even be changed once created? If it has to be deleted then it should cause too much of a problem since all of one person has it on their wish list and none claim ownership. Generally, variants and re-releases have different UPC codes, but not this bad boy. There are at least three variants with the same UPC (Day, Night, Night with 'Special Edition" that includes a Thank You card) not to mention a Steel Book, other regions, and a 'Senna' edition. Anywho, sorry for the confusion and if you want to submit an edit on the current entry in the db with a description of the variant as "variant tie-in" on the main entry we can do that for now, as subs with no UPC will just cause confusion and two subs can't have the same UPC. This should likely be moved out of Nintendo 64 because it isn't an N64 controller. It was designed for a hotel gaming system and the controller ends in a telephone jack, so it's incompatible with the Nintendo 64 without modding.
