Title: Question about new MS Word
Post by: Izret101 on March 28, 2009, 09:44:53 AM
My girlfriend has been writing a novel and wants to submit it to publishers now that she is finished.
Unfortunately when you submit a manuscript they want everything underlined instead of italicized.

Our question is is there an easy way to change all the italicized text to underlined or does she have to go back thru the 400+ pages and change it all manually?

Try using "Find and Replace".  I'm not too sure it will work though :(

^ That but try it out on a different file first. So you don't get any unexpected "surprises" that make things worse. :)

Yes you can do that with Find / Replace function in Word.  How exactly you do it depends on what version of Word she's using.  Word 2000 you do a Ctl-H to bring up the Find / Replace window, with the cursor in the "Find what" box click the More button then click Format and select Font and select the format you want to search for (Italic in this case) then click Ok and move to the "Replace with" box and click Format and Font again.  Select the type of underlining you want in the drop-down, be sure to select "Regular" under font style if you want to remove the Italic at the same time.  Click Ok and then Replace All and should be done.  The process for other versions of Word are most likely very similar to this.  And like Sirgin said do it to a backup copy just in case.

Thanks again!

I gave her the specifics on it.
Like you said i doubt they have changes much of the format from the older versions to the newer.
I never used word often enough outside of typing up basic reports to know about any extra functionality like Find/Replace
