Title: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: Moriya Hanzo on February 03, 2009, 01:30:28 PM Pretty straight forward question. I am sure many of us come across games in the wild that we just pass up. What system just doesn't bite it for you to collect?
Anything before nintendo i don't bother with. Then the N64, guess because all i ever find is cart only. Also NES, really can't seem to get into them even though i find a lot ranging from $1-$10 (complete being the highest mark) Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: Crabmaster2000 on February 03, 2009, 01:34:49 PM Pretty much only Xbox for me. There are just so few games on that system that appeal to me. I've left countless cheap Xbox games right where i found them.
I collect N64, but it is by far the most frusterating. I hate getting them loose because they dont have the top label and like you said they are almost always loose. Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: NES_Rules on February 03, 2009, 01:47:44 PM I don't discriminate between console games, they're all welcome in my collection, even though I rarely play anything before the NES.
However, I do not buy PC games. I just don't like PC gaming at all, so I stay away from the games completely. I do have a few PC games, but they're not in my collection, I just happen to own them. And 99% of those are from before my collecting days anyway. Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: jamespmt on February 03, 2009, 01:57:16 PM ps1 and 2 never owned a playstation. i do have 1 ps1 game though.
Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: BadEnoughDude on February 03, 2009, 02:21:38 PM Nintendo 64, for the same reasons as above (never find CIB).
I rarely buy any classic handheld games (Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Gear, etc). I just never play them. Lastly, Atari. I have a ton of games already and I never play them. Don't really see the need to add more unless, of course, I know that they are rare. Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: Tan on February 03, 2009, 03:51:44 PM NES for me. It's hard enough to find games worth buying let alone worth buying that are CIB. :P
Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: Tondog on February 03, 2009, 04:02:56 PM I don't like buying games for systems I don't have. Otherwise, I don't care about CIB or anything.
Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: asz22 on February 03, 2009, 04:57:16 PM I don't buy any xbox games or anything related to computers. Everything else is fair game and I usually do buy anything else I find. I also pass sports games just because I don't play them.
Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: Izret101 on February 03, 2009, 05:51:15 PM There is no system i would completely shy away from purchasing games for.
The systems i tend to not actively seek out now though are: PC, NES, Genny. PC has always been something i didn't avidly collect and over the year+ due to availability, condition, price and space issues i have been shying away from cart based in general. Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: ItellYaHuat on February 03, 2009, 06:15:48 PM I don't really look into anything above 16-Bit. I stick with Genesis because of the high collectibility and because finding CIB games (and in my case consoles, I scored a CIB Genesis 1 Sonic pack-in for only $15 bucks at Goodwill!) are a doozy.
Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: cverz2 on February 03, 2009, 06:40:43 PM I have been hit and miss on this one. As my collecting style has changed so many times. As for now Anything before Nes is pretty much off limits to me. I sold my Atari CIB and 60 games a year or so ago.
Also I completely shy away from PC. Any PC games that I own now are from before my collecting days. I pass up CIB PC games all the time at Goodwill. And alot of them seem to be old too. I agree with the N64 altough I do collect them. They are hard to find CIB and are a pain in the @$$ to display so that you know what they are. Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: NES_Rules on February 03, 2009, 09:57:46 PM I find it kind of strange how everyone is mentioning the difficulty of finding N64 games in the box. About 1/3 of my N64 game boxes don't actually have the game in them, I've found the box but not the game. And if I compare the N64 to the NES and SNES I probably have a higher ratio of boxed/empty boxes to loose games for the N64 than the NES or SNES.
Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: logical123 on February 03, 2009, 10:06:26 PM Xbox. I own the system, but no games. :P
Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: NES_Rules on February 03, 2009, 10:11:43 PM Xbox. I own the system, but no games. :P I had the exact opposite problem. I had an ever expanding collection of games and no system to play them on for almost a year. Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: cant-grow-up on February 03, 2009, 10:22:40 PM Since im more into playing than pure collecting, games being CIB isnt really that important to me. PC games i dont really collect they just seem to well...be here.
Ive never really gotten passed the Genesis vs SNES days so I dont worry about NES/SNES stuff. And finally im not big into handhelds so unless its a great find I dont bother. Other than that everythings fair game..lol Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: Atarian75 on February 04, 2009, 07:53:48 AM I don't collect for classic computers like C64 and TI99 etc. I don't collect for PC. For some reason I haven't gotten into Intellivision or Odyssey 2 or Game Gear. Everything else is fair game.
-Atarian75 Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: blcklblskt on February 13, 2009, 09:17:20 PM I don't collect PC at all. I do pick up some Xbox games, but I really don't want them. I hate buying DC and PS1 games because most of the time they are incomplete, scratched, and dirty, but I usually buy them anyway :). I pretty much pick up anything I find, as long as I don't have it.
Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: ApolloBoy on February 22, 2009, 03:20:58 PM I try to avoid collecting for the Neo-Geo AES and MVS as much as possible. Don't get me wrong, I really like a lot of games for those two (the Metal Slug series being a big example), but the Neo-Geo scene is just far too expensive for me.
Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: Tynstar on March 04, 2009, 01:02:44 PM For me is was computer based systems and anything loose. Now a days I only collect for the Xbox 360.
Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: Samamo on March 08, 2009, 03:16:35 AM I don't buy PC games usually. I don't like gaming on the PC and my current PC is awful. Only games I "collect" are genesis games. use to for the PS2, selling some of them off. I do have a GB/DS/GBA/360/PS2 that I buy games for but im not as passionate about them. And I guess I don't collect PS1 games that I could be playing on the PS2. Crack too easy and just not really interesting IMO.
Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: Moriya Hanzo on March 08, 2009, 06:10:49 PM I don't consider a PC a video game "system"
Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: Tan on March 08, 2009, 07:53:59 PM I don't consider a PC a video game "system" Because you can surf the web, listen to tunes, watch movies and videos or chat with friends through IM or voice? If the Wii, X360 and PS3 had Word/Open Office installed you'd hardly tell the difference because they do all of the above already. Hell even the DS and PSP fit into that category. Also Linux, PS2 and PS3 are like peas in a pod these days. Couple that with the fact both the X360 and PS3 can be upgraded and many people are playing PC games on LCD televisions, a "non-system" argument for PC would be splitting hairs. :) Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: atari_wizard on March 09, 2009, 08:09:03 AM I pass up PSX, PS2, SNES, Sega CD, Dreamcast. I don't own any of the Playstations or a Dreamcast. I tend to pass up on any Sega Genesis games that aren't CIB. Sometimes I'll see a great game that I'm missing loose and keep on walking. I never understood why people threw these cases out. If anything, take the game out and put the case and manual in storage. I don't mind buying loose games for my favorite systems, though I'd prefer to find them complete.
Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: Sirgin on March 09, 2009, 08:22:48 AM I don't own any of the Playstations or a Dreamcast. Big mistake in my opinion. :PTitle: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: ApolloBoy on March 09, 2009, 11:22:21 PM I don't own any of the Playstations or a Dreamcast. Big mistake in my opinion. :PI agree with both of you. I'm sure I will be kicking myself in the butt sometime down the road; however, I used to own a Dreamcast & It's one he77 of a system. I just need to concentrate my collecting to Atari, NES & N64. I slowed down picking up Sega Genesis titles for the moment. Once I'm finished and satisfied, I will start on other systems. I couldn't tell you what games are worth picking up for the SNES if my life depended on it, but I have plenty of time to do research before that time comes. 8) Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: atari_wizard on March 10, 2009, 07:32:46 AM I don't own any of the Playstations or a Dreamcast. Big mistake in my opinion. :PI have an okay selection of SNES titles. Most of all the popular ones. Plus M.A.C.S. There are only a few SNES games that I'm looking for at this time. Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: den68 on March 17, 2009, 11:08:33 AM I guess I'll have to go with PC as well. I can't say I don't like collecting for PC. I do have several games and do pick them up occasionally. For me it's an availabilty/completeness issue. When I'm out hitting the thrifts there are ALWAYS several PC games available. Most of the time they are just loose disks or at best still have just the jewel case. Very rarely are the manuals or boxes still there. With the variety of packaging for PC games it's hard to know what's missing.
I don't mind a loose cart (sorry Scott) but not CD's. Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: gamepopper101 on March 29, 2009, 09:32:37 AM I would like to collect failed systems because of how bad they were, we all know how great the 2600, NES, SNES, Mega Drive, Playstation (1 and 2), N64 and what not are.
However, I would like to collect games for a system that I know many games I would like, which is why I wouldn't go for a Xbox 360 or PS3 nowadays, since out of all the retail games you can buy for it I'm only interested in about 3 for each system, while I have almost 15 games for the Wii that I like. Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: Gamefan on February 14, 2012, 07:01:13 PM I do not collect nor will I ever collect for the PC. I prefer to spend money on "real" game systems/games.
Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: techwizard on February 14, 2012, 08:00:00 PM PC is really good for playing certain genres like FPS and RTS, but it's a really bad platform to collect for because there will never be an end to it. that and compatibility for games over the years aren't that good.
Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: Feldheim_C on February 15, 2012, 03:33:22 AM I'm pretty non exclusive in my collection right now. I do not, however, collect physical PC games.
(that being said my steam game count is somewhere close to 290) Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: Rajaat the Warbringer on February 15, 2012, 06:22:26 AM Dreamcast. Just not enough for it that I'm interested in playing.
Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: Hungrymoose on February 15, 2012, 10:03:29 AM PC is pretty much the only one I don't actively look for but if I see a good game on the cheap I might buy it.
Title: Re: What systems you do not like to collect? Post by: Madir on February 18, 2012, 09:59:00 AM I avoid every kind of download only games because I only feel like a collector having a real cartridge or disc in my hands. I'm not really collecting PC games but I buy games (most 5 or more years old) if they are cheap and I'm really interested in playing them. So far I don't own any kind of Playstation or Home Computer but maybe once I'll start collecting those.
The last things I don't like to collect are games without boxes and manuals unless they are really rare or I get a lot of them for a very low price. |
