Title: The fat lady is singing...Circuit City calls it quits.
Post by: Pop Culture Portal on January 16, 2009, 12:24:13 PM
Honestly I'm not surprised.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28691963/?GT1=43001

Overpriced, dirty, disorganized....most of them near me closed before Christmas and I got some awesome deals on Blu-Ray and PS3 stuff.

Thoughts?

I knew it! I should get my dad to take me there to buy a new TV for my gaming area. 30-50% off? HECK YEAH!!!

Be very careful of those markdowns.   The electronics stuff is generally marked up 30% so they can take 30% off.

I was able to pick up Blu-Ray movies and PS3 games for anywhere from $3 to $12 during their last days.  Hope I can find more stuff like that.

Dang!

We're losing the only place that price-matched Best Buy after Best Buy sold out of the items they were advertising. :evilsad:

When CC first started having trouble and closing stores, I was disappointed as I had all good experiences with the store. But, since then, all I've had was trouble. They gave me a really hard time when returning games and then they gave me empty cases when I bought new games with the credit. So, I say good riddance to them.

Good bye Circuit City, you won't be missed.

I'll miss them only for the ability to get at CC what I couldn't get at Best Buy when BB was sold out of their sale games.

I did a little homework, it's possible WalMart may price match BB, I'll have to try that the next time there's something on BB weekly ad that I wasn't able to get.

Target doesn't price match...bastards! :evilsad:

Wal-Mart will usually price match anyone with no problem. I've even had cashiers at Wal-Mart tell me something was on sale at another store and then give it to me for that price.

I'm waiting to see the sale signs go up.
Wii owners keep an eye out for Wii Point cards. Its always cool when those get markdowns :)

Another thought is to see about putting your name on the list for store fixtures.  I'd love to grab some of there display cases.

I really don't miss either of these places. K*B went out of business in my area a few years ago. Circuit City was a place I went to rarely at best. Only if they had something irresistible in the ad would I consider making the drive. The only good experience I had was in high school and I bought a pair of subs for my car B1G1. Other than that, not impressed with the selection or staff.

Of course, the time between the subs and later visits was when they went through their "house cleaning" of good staff.

CC was alright.  The thing that sucks, not only with CC but with any known business, are the jobs lost and less competition meaning BB will be able to hike there prices.  I don't like BB too much in the first place and now that is the only store pretty much for certain items it sucks.

Yea, I've heard they were doing this from numerous sources.  I also went their Saturday and they were selling GH III & GH:Aerosmith with the guitar and game for $40.  I went in yesterday (less than a week later) and they are selling them for $69!!!  :oWTF!

60% off games this week. All my CC had left are GH guitar bundles and half a display case of 360/PS3 games (and at least a quarter of those were game only GH games).
They had 3 or 4 Fallout 3 CE's that I was going to buy until I realized they were the PC not 360 versions. Then I thought maybe I could resell them, but with taxes and shipping it would only be something like $10 less than retail with a $5 profit for me.

Total hell! Circuit City sold "The Source" to Bell.
(A couple of years ago Circuit City bought the Canadian chain of Radio Shack and urned them into "The Source". )

Now Bell is going to use it to promote their cell phones and TV. Now where the hell am I going to buy my supplies for homemade circuits and soldering? Damnit!
