Title: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: Alfador on January 10, 2009, 10:03:42 PM GO STEELERS. Yea but anyway, any other Steelers fans around here? I really REALLY hope they beat the Chargers tomorrow as I'm located in SoCal and I hate Chargers fans..
Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: TraderJake on January 10, 2009, 10:43:56 PM I only hope that if either the Steelers or Ravens make it to the Super Bowl the NFC champ kicks their ass. Not that it really matters though, because the Bengals will never be good.
Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on January 10, 2009, 10:48:21 PM I will never root for the Steelers.
Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: Feechy on January 10, 2009, 11:06:27 PM Off-topic but where did the word root come from?
Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: Alfador on January 10, 2009, 11:08:06 PM Canada, Feechy. And try to stay focused
Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: Feechy on January 10, 2009, 11:13:03 PM Okay, and on the Steelers, I don't really give a damn about your fancy foosball.
Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: blcklblskt on January 11, 2009, 12:15:24 PM I thought they were a curling team...
Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: Feechy on January 11, 2009, 03:02:22 PM Wait... There are such things as curling teams? :D
Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: Sirgin on January 11, 2009, 05:51:17 PM Curling is hilarious.
I remember watching the women's finals at the Winter Olympics once and the "athletes" were quite remarkable. These 40-year old, slightly overweight, just-had-my-nails-done type of women were the best curlers in the world. They looked like the Olympics final was just a way to spend some time between doing the daily groceries and walking the dog. I thought it was fantastic. :D Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: Feechy on January 11, 2009, 06:13:51 PM Okay then... Thanks Sirgin, although I was just being facetious. ;)
Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: Sirgin on January 11, 2009, 06:44:15 PM Okay then... Thanks Sirgin, although I was just being facetious. ;) Oh but I wasn't replying to you in particular. I just think curling is hilarious. :PTitle: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: Alfador on January 11, 2009, 07:49:04 PM and the Steelers beat the Chargers, woot!
Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: phoenix1967 on January 13, 2009, 09:44:10 AM ^I've been a Steelers fan since I was 8 years old.
I watched the Super Bowl 10 pre-game and it pissed me off when the announcers called the Dallas Cowboys "America's Team". I thought, "No one asked for MY vote!", so I began rooting for the Steelers and they've been my favorite team ever since. I'm hoping for a Pittsburgh-Arizona Super Bowl. With that said it's probably going to end up being Philly-Baltimore (zzzzzz). However, if it is Pitt-Az, I win either way. Because if Pitt wins...YEAH my favorite team is the first to win 6 Super Bowls. If Arizona wins, I win $220 because I bet $10 on them to win the Super Bowl getting 22-1 odds when I was in Las Vegas Last September. However, a part of me is kicking myself for not putting $10 on Baltimore at the time (they were 40-1), but I thought they wouldn't get there with both a rookie coach and QB. Lesson learned, I guess. :-\ Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: Alfador on January 18, 2009, 10:22:33 PM Woot! Steelers going BACK to the Super Bowl baby!
Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: phoenix1967 on January 19, 2009, 08:32:33 AM And I was fortunate enough to get the matchup I wanted. Yes! 8)
Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: bickman2k on January 23, 2009, 11:10:19 AM I really don't know about this year's Super Bowl. It seems like the Steelers have it in the bag, but there is something about Arizona that makes me think that they could be a surprise.
Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: phoenix1967 on January 23, 2009, 03:02:51 PM As long as it's a good game I'll be happy with either result. 8)
Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: Alfador on January 24, 2009, 08:52:44 PM Arizona and Ken Whisenhunt have a few tricks up their sleeve, as long as Big Ben and the Steelers D does it's job and doesn't get fooled we should have it in the bag
Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: den68 on January 29, 2009, 03:06:15 PM I wouldn't be dissapointed to see Arizona win but I've liked the Steelers since I was a kid so I gotta root for them.
It should be a good game but there's no way (for me anyway) that it can top the gloriousness of Tom Bradys perfect season coming to a halt in the Super Bowl last year. Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: phoenix1967 on January 31, 2009, 06:11:33 PM I wouldn't be dissapointed to see Arizona win but I've liked the Steelers since I was a kid so I gotta root for them. Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: Alfador on February 01, 2009, 10:36:40 PM And the Steelers are WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!! And it was the best Super Bowl I've ever seen, even better than last year's.
Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: Misto on February 01, 2009, 11:38:16 PM That game was intense. I'm really glad Pittsburgh won since I'm a huge Steelers fan.
I was on the edge of my seat the whole 4th quarter almost. Also, I'm really glad we got 6 Super Bowl victories now, which makes us statistically better then the Cowboys and Patriots ;) Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: Sirgin on February 02, 2009, 10:10:38 AM I watched most of the Superbowl yesterday. I fell asleep on the couch during the 3rd Quarter because it was past 3AM here already. :P (I'm having today, monday, off)
It was the first American Football game I've seen in my life. They don't air the sport often here (read: never) but I guess the Superbowl was important enough to show. I saw it on BBC1 though, Belgium channels would never air that. It was quite enjoyable and interesting to see the sport as it really is because I only know it of movies like Remember The Titans and stuff like that. I would've preferred to see more sport and less talk though. At times I felt I was watching a talkshow with a bit of sport in between rather than sport with commentary. Dividing the game into Quarters is already bad enough, but having the million Time-Outs is just too much. :P Also, I wonder why they don't call it American Rugby instead. It shares far more traits with that sport than with normal football (= soccer). I have a few questions about the game: 1) Does the black paint below the eyes has a purpose or is it purely decorative? 2) Do they project the arrows (with 1&10, etc....) on the floor with a strong beamer or something? At first I thought it was with a computer but the players are able to walk on them. 3) What do those arrows mean? Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: NES_Rules on February 02, 2009, 11:44:18 AM I agree with you on the large amount of timeouts and talking and stuff like that, Sirgin. It's one of the reasons I never cared for football, it makes it hard to follow the game when it's interrupted every 5 seconds.
As for your questions 1) the paint is supposed to attract light so it doesn't get in their eyes. I don't think it actually makes much of a difference though, so it probably is more of a decoration or tradition thing. 2) They are done with computers, same with the yellow line on the field, it is amazing how it does look like the players are walking on it though. 3) I have no idea. I never got into football enough to learn that one. Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: Sirgin on February 02, 2009, 12:07:16 PM Thanks for answering, NES_Rules. :)

When your sitting in the stands, your just sitting there twiddling your thumbs waiting for the next play or for the timeout to be over. I couldn't stand it. I left at half time during the only football game I have ever been to. Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: James on February 02, 2009, 01:12:05 PM And the Steelers are WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!! And it was the best Super Bowl I've ever seen, even better than last year's. WORLD CHAMPIONS OF AMERICA!!!!! HOOOOO YEAH! :P Did anyone see the porn? That's about all I've heard from the game. Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: y2richie on February 02, 2009, 02:14:01 PM I followed the NFL from 1987 to 1995 and enjoyed it and played in amateur teams here in the UK. I think there's only meant to be about 15 minutes of actual action during a whole game. Saying that, it appeals to me for its strategic value. It's like a game of freekicks and corners with both coaches battling their strategies and I enjoy that. I TiVo the games so I can fast forward the breaks etc.
My favourite sport is hockey though as I don't think you can beat that for speed, excitement and violence and live games are great entertainment. :) Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: y2richie on February 02, 2009, 02:19:39 PM 3) What do those arrows mean? The 1st&10 arrows? The 1st/2nd/3rd/4th is the attempt at getting 10 yards. Once they get 10 yards, it resets back to 1st down again. If the team tries on 4th to get to the marker and fail, they give the ball to the other team. For this reason most teams punt (kick) the ball away on 4th down (4th attempt) to push the other team back. The &10 bit is the yards to go. Once they get 10 yards, it will reset to 1st (attempt) and 10 yards (to go) again. If they get a penalty or the quarterback is tackled behind the line of play then they add on those yards for the team to try and get. There is actually a lot to the game. I've been watching the game years and learn something new all the time. Hope that helped. :) Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: NES_Rules on February 02, 2009, 02:37:55 PM I followed the NFL from 1987 to 1995 and enjoyed it and played in amateur teams here in the UK. Good question! I can see why you asked. Everything is as in the US so it's yards. I can't think of any difference. Gridiron terminology is so ingrained in my head that I use it in all the wrong situations. I was playing FIFA online in defense and said I'd go into zone coverage lol. A lot of our coaches were from the US. The heyday for the NFL in the UK was in the 80s. That's when it was a really big deal here. Title: Re: Pittsburgh Steelers Post by: Sirgin on February 02, 2009, 05:40:12 PM You should try to attend a game. At least on TV you have commercials and replays. When your sitting in the stands, your just sitting there twiddling your thumbs waiting for the next play or for the timeout to be over. I can imagine. :P At some point during watching the Superbowl last night I was wondering whether the people in the commentary box were getting more screentime than the game itself. I think they do, actually. :hmm:I couldn't stand it. I left at half time during the only football game I have ever been to. But anyway, I never actually attended a game of any sports because: A) I'm not that into sports. B) Why would I pay to have a worse view than the one I have from my couch? I'd rather watch something on TV with many different cameras that can zoom in than having to watch a bunch of dots run around on a field a mile away. (I'm exaggerating here, but you know what I mean) Atleast soccer is a continuous sport. There's 45 minutes of play, halftime, and another 45 minutes of play. No Time-outs either. :D @y2richie: Thanks, I think I understand now. :) |
