RF Generation Message Board

It occurred to me that it may be fun to try a game where we each see how fast/long it would take each of us to spend $200 on current gen games. It'll be interesting to see who buys a game new vs. used and what bargains can be had.

These can be new or used titles for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and/or Wii consoles. These can be obtained via store purchases or eBay. Online downloads do not count. 

The $200 to spend has to come from our own money, and gifts/gift cards cannot be applied to these purchases.

Like in other threads (i.e."The Beaten in 2009..."), each of us is to reserve 1 space and modify it throughout the challenge. List each game purchased, by system, and amount spent. When you reach $200 spent, you're done. 8)

1/14/09: Ninja Gaiden 2 (Xbox 360), NIB, $8.47. (Apparently the CC deal is the differnce + 10% of the difference...something the prior employee didn't know to account for. 2 bucks is 2 bucks!)

2/06/09: Stranglehold Collector's Edition (Xbox 360), used CIB, 8.68.
2/06/09: Fallout 3 Limited Edition (XBOX 360) NIB on eBay, $53.26
2/12/09: Soul Calibur 4 (Xbox 360) NIB at Circuit City closeout, $31.79
2/27/09: Mercenaries 2: WIF (Xbox 360) NIB at Best Buy, $10.59. Reimbursed for 2nd copy of Ninja Gaiden (-$8.47).
3/3/09 Halo Wars LE (Xbox 360) NIB ($84.79)...going to try selling the Halo 3 map pack card to offset the cost; we'll see how that goes. At this point I'm over the $200, though.
3/8/09 Sold the Halo 3 Mythic Map code on ebay ($40), but with listing fees it comes to about $38.50 or so, so I'm still over the $200 limit.

2/6/09: Bought 3 new strategy guides from Circuit City (Fallout 3, Ninja Gaiden 2, and Soul Calibur 4) for $33.38 total.

This sounds interesting. I've just gotten into current gen systems so there's a ton of games I'm interested in, but I already got a lot of them for Christmas. So it should be interesting if I can spend $200 on current gen games in a year, especially with the way I bargain hunt.

Do DS and PSP games count, or is this consoles only?

Because of the nature of PCs, it would imbalance the game if you were to buy a hundred PC games for $2 each from like 1999 or something.

I ALWAYS check the clearance, but my luck with it has not been good.

How about a Wii Fit?   It's hardware with a game.   I found one today, but I think it will probably be returned.    I just can't see justifying the $90 for it....

That should work. It's not a console itself and it can be compared to the various Guitar Hero and Rock Band bundles that contain a game...so sure.

Don't return it, sell it.  I think they still go for a premium on ebay and Craigslist

99% of the 360 games I buy are under 15 bucks. I have a card that gives me 5 dollars off any used game at GameStop 14.99 or higher plus my Edge card on top of that. So a game thats 17.99 only cost me around 12 bucks. So I can make 200 last. Then again I am getting a PAL 360 and about 15 games so that blows the 200 real fast. Plus I am thinking about getting a Resident Evil 360.

I even think that those numbers are skewed because SO MANY copies that are sold now are foreign and can be had for cheap.

Do they distinguish region on that site, or do they take everything as a whole?

No idea about that. And of course you shouldn't trust such a site 100% but atleast it gives an indication as to what the price of an item is on eBay/Amazon/...

If you search for Final Fantasy (http://www.videogamepricecharts.com/search?q=final+fantasy&submit=Search), you'll find that FF7 is listed at $57.50. Now I have no clue whether that's correct or not, but atleast you get the idea that you shouldn't be selling it for $5. So using it in that way, it can really help. :)

Pretty sure that's true :) Unfortunately, it's probably happened to most of the people here. It's one of those things that makes collecting wonderful, and at the same time, makes it completely aggravating.
