Title: Collecting Goals for 2009
Post by: NES_Rules on December 31, 2008, 01:16:53 PM
2009 is practically here, so let's hear those goals.

My goals for 2009:

1. Buying a Nintendo GameCube and Microsoft Xbox.
2. Buying a PS3 and maybe an Xbox 360.
3. Buying 50-60 fun games. I'm not looking for anything in particular.

That's it. I hope I'll make it. ;)

1. Sell off all my nonCIB stuff
2. Finish my CIB Metal Gear collection (US only :P )
3. Finish My CIB  Sonic Collection (Like that'll happen!)
4. Finish my Sega Console Collection (NonCIB, like that'll happen)
5. Work on my CIB N64 collection
6. Buy a CIB WonderSwan Color and/or Crystal and some CIB games

Tough to say right now, but ideally:

1. Find a reliable, affordable and safe storage space for my games before I move to Portland.
2. Sell off duplicate systems/games.
3. Get an XBOX 360.
4. Fill in remaining holes in my PS2 collection.

Keeping the goals realistic and attainable for now, as I'll more than likely be bogged down with school/work after I move to Portland. Selling off those duplicate games/systems will surely finance my 360 purchase, and it's something that I can do at my leisure.

I have several goals as I still have a relatively small collection with lots to get.

In order of importance:

1.  Get a Sega Saturn, my little holy grail of collecting.
2.  Get a model 2 Sega CD
3.  Get a Sega Master System
4.  Get an Atari 2600 so I can play these games I have for it Completed March 15!  It's a 7800 but close enough.
5.  Sell off or give away to friends my duplicates and sports titles I picked up in lots.  I've never sold anything to others online before, so this will be a new experience.
6.  At least double the size of my TG-16 collection (which isn't too hard as I only have 11 games :P)
7.  Replace most or all of my cart-only Genesis games with CIB copies
8.  Hit 500 unique games.  Only need about 180 more games to get there.  Seeing as I picked up about 150 unique games this year but only got into collecting with 7 months left in the year, I think this is very possible.

I think these goals are realistic.  Let's see if I can achieve them!

After careful consideration, i have decided to go a little easy this year. I actually did one of these before the year started, and that was to get a PS3. Well here is the rest in order.

1. Get a Turbo Duo R (Top priority for me this year)
2. Reach 75 Psone games
3. Reach 20 Dreamcast games
4. Reach 15 CIB SNES collection-----Done
5. Reach 20 TG-16 games

EDIT: Reached the 15 CIB snes games (32 total)

Title: Re: Collecting Goals for 2009

1.  Dreamcast complete.
2.  40K Gamerscore on Xbox Live (I'm starting this one late since my 360 is in for repair)

Hasn't Dreamcast complete been a goal of your for like, 3 years now? :P
Yes, indeed.  However, the year I initially set out to complete it I was a long ways off.  I now only need 65 titles, less than I had when I first set that goal, so I am confident that this will be THE year it happens.

PROGRESS
02009-01-01 _ 219/284 (77%)
02009-01-15 _ 229/284 (80%)

Well I did this in 2007 and didn't come close except for one.  So I am going to be a little more realistic this time around.

450 total NES games ( need 58 )
180 total SNES games ( need 31 )
125 total Sega games ( need 33 ) and no longer buy them loose
100 total PS1 games ( need 12 )
100 total PS2 games ( need 14 )
100 total N64 games ( need 30 )
50 total DS games ( need 21 )
50 total GameCube games ( need 25 )
25  total PS3 games ( need 16 games )

Purchase a Dreamcast, Saturn, and XBox 360. And start collecting a few titles for each.

Hopefully I can acheive most of these goals. Shouldn't be too hard. Probably won't get the 360 until Christmas though.

Stop being such a collector and start PLAYING games. :)

Also, I'd like to get a Saturn (and mod it to play imports and burned discs) or a modded PS2 (for imports and burned discs).

Last year I completely failed pretty much all of my goals. This year im going to keep it a little more obtainable:

 1. Get at least 10 games off of my Gamecube wanted list
 2. Get at least 20 new Gamecube games
 3. Get my NES games to at least 200 unique titles
 4. Get my Virtual Boy games to at least 7 CIB different titles
 5. Get a battery for my Saturn so I can finally play Dragon Force, Shining Wisdom and Dark Savior (PRIORITY)
 6. Replace Pin connectors in both NESes (PRIORITY)
 7. Get 2 or more N64 controllers (PRIORITY)
 8. Get 2 or more SNES hookups (preferably S-Video)
 9. Get 3 new CIB Saturn games off of wanted list
10. Get 5 new SNES games off of wanted list
11. Get 8 or more Wii games off of wanted list
12. Get new shelves for game room (wont happen until I find a new home and move in)
13. Get at least 10 new arcade style games (PS,PS2,DC,NGC or Wii) to use with my new Arcade stick
14. See if I can fix Gamecube and Sega CD
15. Finish cleaning up all the carts/cases that need it
16. Box all loose N64 games after I get new shelving
17.Clean All NES Games (Priority)
18.Get Dreamcast Adaptor for Arcade Stick

Things may be added to this list at the year goes on, but as of right now I would be thrilled if my 2009 turned out like this.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. 3/10 (Donkey Konga, Mario Superstar Baseball, Twilight Princess)
2. 3/20 (Donkey Konga, Mario Superstar Baseball, Twilight Princess)
3. 153/200
6. 1/2
10. 1/5 (Axelay)
11. 7/8 (Target: Terror, Metal Slug Anthology,Sam & Max, King of Fighters Collection, Geometry Wars, Blast Works, Nights Journey of Dreams)
13. 6/10 (Raiden III, Castle Shikigami 2, Metal Slug Anthology,Marvel vs. Capcom, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Soul Calibur, )
17. Approximately 60% done

Title: Re: Collecting Goals for 2009

Think I'll keep it simple this year.

1.Get a PSP
2.Get the last 3 Atlus titles I need for the PS2
3.Get the last 5 Atlus titles I need for the DS
4.Get the last 2 Romance of the Three Kingdoms games I need for domestic consoles

I could list more but why?  I'll get more games.  That's a given.  I'd rather list off what I want most and stick with the easy stuff first.

I did pretty good with few exceptions in 2008. So I'll carry over those and add a couple more.

Obtain a complete ColecoVision in working order and copies of:
Donkey Kong
DK Jr
Zaxxon
and Venture.

Obtain 50 Xbox 360 titles (need 12 6 as of 1/01/09 02/16/09).

Obtain the following strategy guides for $10 or less each:
God of War 1
Fable 2
Grand Theft Auto 4
Left 4 Dead
Fallout 3 Completed 2/6/09 ($12.50...a little off).

Obtain a copy of Chrono Trigger (either SNES or DS) for under $30 and the console to play it on (under $30 for SNES and under $70 for DS).

I don't really like setting goals for myself, but these are some that I'd like to get, but I'm not really trying hard to get them all.
Reach 2,000 total games (I've only got 78 to go, so that's an easy one)
Reach 2,000 unique games (a little more challenging at around 500 to go)
Get down to 75 systems (I'm at 98, and need to get rid of some dupes)
Reach 350 unique NES games (about 100 to go)
Reach 200 unique SNES games (about 60 to go)
Reach 100 unique N64 games (easy one, with only 15 to go)
Reach 250 unique Genesis games (about 70 to go)
Reach 200 unique 2600 games (only 34 to go, but they're so hard to find anymore)
Once again, get rid of a lot of the duplicates.

My goals for 2009 are
Reach 100 PS2 games (still a goal from 2008, should be an easy one 12 more to go)
Reach 75 PS1 games
Reach 75 NES games
and get any CIB SNES Syetem

Got 100 PS2 games and Marvel vs Capcom 2 was My 100th!

After trying to decide on some realistic goals, here are mine:

1. Over 3000 unique games total by end of year.
2. Over 600 NES games.
3. Obtain some sort of Turbographx console.

I'm keeping things light this year. I'm just happy that I can actually afford to buy games this year. Here's what I'm gonna try to do.

1. Reach 200 NES games
2. Double my Turbografx collection (shouldn't be too hard since I've only got 5!)
3. Try to beat a few games this year
4. Expand my 7800 collection
5. See if I can get my Sega CD in working condition

I think I can handle these

YMMV. I regret getting a Dreamcast now. A couple decent games doesn't warrant keeping the system for me. I'll probably get rid of whatever I have left, I never play the damn thing.:P

  • 2009 - Get rid of whatever Dreamcast stuff I have left.

How's that?

Seriously though, I don't actually collect games as much as I play them. I treat all systems new or old the same way. I just buy whatever catches my eye for whatever system so I can play it. I set a hardware goal a couple years ago to buy backup hardware and accessories but that's it. I could no more set personal goals for gaming than I could guess the number of games for each system that I'll buy this year, because to me they are one and the same.

My goals for 2009 are as followes:

- Get Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon
- Get a complete copy of Star Fox 64 (N64)
- Reach 650 unique games
- Pick up an Xbox
- Sell off games that I will NEVER play
- Sell off my extra consoles (Anyone wanna buy some Genesis? I have a model 1 and 2 for sale.)
- Pick up Ninja Gaiden (Xbox) and Ninja Gaiden III (NES)
- Get the rest of the hardware I need for the Game Cube (Indigo/Clear controller, Grey Wavebird, Broadband Adaptor, and a Black and an Indigo Game Cube (with the digital AV out of course))

Title: Re: Collecting Goals for 2009

2009 goals:

- Get organized - though this may be impossible as I really have NO room for my collection.
- Update my collection pics in my profile. The pics in there now are probably 4 years old.
- Hit 400 PS2 games (need 17)
- Hit 300 Xbox games (need 12)
- Hit 100 for one of the Gameboys ( GB - need 11, Color - need 28, Advance - need 15)
- Hit 5000 total games (need 209)

Mostly I just want to keep finding whatever I can that's cheap.

As I totally failed at all my 2008 goals I'll pick some more realistic ones for this year:

1100 total games, not items
100 Dragon 32 games
150 Mega Drive games

Title: Re: Collecting Goals for 2009
Post by: Tan on January 14, 2009, 04:41:03 AM
I've actually decided to make a goal this year, one that doesn't require fortune-telling as to how many games I'll buy.

I have currently, excluding demos and the like, 969-ish entries in my collection. 800 of them are CIB, 169 are not. That's a CIB percentage of 82.56% give or take. My goal this year is to get that number up to 90% CIB. Shouldn't be too hard for some systems but it'll be like pulling teeth for others.

Post by: eternalblue81 on January 18, 2009, 01:58:01 PM
My number one goal above all else is to get my collection reorganized. The locations I've been using for pretty much every game system have got to the point where I can no longer add stuff alphabetically and new stuff just gets piled next to it. I currently have a lot of games double shelved so that I can't easily access the ones in the back. DS games stacked in front of GBA, Gamecube and Xbox in front of PS2, etc.

Until the time that I have more space, I currently am not seeing my collection of PS1, Dreamcast, NGC, Xbox, GBA, Sega CD, Saturn, or PSP games growing by much.

I think 09 will be much like 08 was for me. A lot less impulse buying and only considering purchases for around $10 or less except for personal highly anticipated new releases (Resident Evil 5) and RPGs that have good preorder only bonuses which I'm a sucker for. 360 and DS will probably see the most growth, with some growth still for PS2 and PS3 now that I finally got the system. I don't really want to guess how much my collection will grow, since I've sadly seemed to have pretty much reached the limit space-wise, especially with my movie, book and magazine collections competing for space.  :-\

I thought my goals were already posted, nope.

2009 will be a slow and staggering year. I have graduated and still working my full time job, so I actually have more free time now. I've been spending that extra time not digging for new swag and I've cut down on purchases across the board. I'm in a retention mode and want to play the thousands of games already sitting on shelves I haven't touched since the day they were bought. So I have low expectations for the year as I save for a small house and hope for the best of finds (picking up a second arcade cab would be nice). :)

My goals seem a bit small compared to you hardcore lot :P Just started researching genesis/mega drive games I want over the weekend. So my main goal is to get a "big" genesis collection. At the moment I own 25 games for it and by the end of the year I'd like to have at least 50 total games for it. :) It's very exciting! Good luck to everyone with their own personal goals!

Harvest Moon and Starcraft 64 are the two hardest to come across that I've seen.  They can be found on ebay and such but your gonna pay for them usually.  $40 a piece can be average.

It hasn't been mentioned specifically yet, but Ogre Battle 64 can get a little expensive too.

2. Got to 300+ Xbox 360 retail titles.

I've already posted but kinda like to update my goals

-over 200 games total
-50-100 Genesis games

I'm selling around 25 soon so my current total will be ~125 with 33 being genesis games.

- Stop collecting everything and only buy games I like.
- Reach 50 SNES-games by the end of the year (5 to go).
- Reach 75 Mega Drive-games (2 to go).
- Reach 40 NES-games (9 to go).

As I don't buy a lot of games, I'm not sure whether I will reach my goals. ;)

Are you trying for label variation? Demo carts? CIB? If not, not really. I have seen literally every N64 title at one point including the Clayfighter 63 1/3 SC that I regret not picking up. some of the harder to find titles I can think of are; Ogre Battle , Conkers fur day, Castlevania Worms & duck dodgers. There are a few titles that might cost you a 25-35 bucks due to popularity ex. Harvest moon. If you actively search you can find a majority of these.

1/4 year mark so far:

Maintain over 1000 games FAIL over 150 below the 1k mark

Complete Game.Com (games) FAIL still need 9 games
Complete Pico (games not including Storyware Sampler) FAIL still need 10 games
Complete HyperScan (game discs not Trading Cards) FAIL Still need 3-5 more games
Complete US Mortal Kombat home console releases (including major variants) FAIL still need approx 30

Reach 200 PS2 games (same as 08) FAIL Still need 60+ more games
Reach 150 Xbox games (the goal in 08 was 200) FAIL still need 60+ more games
Reach 50 Wii games (same as 08 not counting VC/WiiWare) FAIL still need 25+ more games

Obtain a 360. PASS RE5 Edition should be here by friday :)

At least half of these should be easy to do but i still don't think i am going to be able to finish...
