Title: Skate 2
Post by: Sirgin on December 08, 2008, 09:45:43 AM
The first Skate claimed to be the realistic alternative for the long overdue Tony Hawk series. Skate 2 builds on that foundation and expands in various ways.

For those of you that have played Skate: did you like the new approach to the skateboarding genre or do you prefer the controls and over-the-top gameplay of Tony Hawk?

Let me just say I'm the only one here who's genuinely excited for this game. I LOVED the first game and it was one of the big reasons I bought a PS3 when I did.

skate was sooooooooooooooo much better than the last THPS game because it did something different where as THPS has been stale since the 4th installment. Plus skate feels like it's actually made by a team that's truly passionate about skateboarding, unlike the Tony Hawk series which has increasingly felt like the product of a board room meeting.

And no, I've never tried skateboarding for any significant amount of time. :D

Aren't you lucky I made this thread just for you. :D

But seriously: I agree about the Tony Hawk series. It's like the same game gets released every two years, that series went downhill after THPS3 with a slight recovery at the Underground games.

I picked "a good mix of both", mainly because I skate (not as much as I used to), and the fun thing about Tony Hawk was the ridiculous stuff you could do.  It took you away from reality, but skate was cool by being real also.  Sometimes you just need a little of both.  Remember kids, variety is the spice of life! :)

My quick review:

If you liked the first game, you'll like this one. It's a big step up in every single way. But, EA needs to fix the damned frame rate issue.
