Title: Saturn or Genesis? What's your take?
Post by: Sega2099 on November 26, 2008, 09:20:53 AM
I've been wanting a Genesis for quite awhile now. But I'm just wondering if the Saturn would be better... What's your take on these two systems?

*Trips over, then falls*

Wait...

WAIT...

Um... Don't get the Saturn before the Genesis. The Genny is like, 50 billion times better. The saturn gets props in its own way, but you can't put those 2 consoles next to each other. Needless to say, I have both. It is your choice, but I recommend getting a Genny WAY before a Saturn.

Well, i just got back into the genesis awhile ago. It would really depend on the games that garner your interest and whether or not graphics mean anything to you. I like both systems the same only because i have barely tapped into the Saturn market. The good games are really hard to come bye as a posed to the Genesis. Fighters are great on the system and so are shooters (Only have 1). The genesis market is booming with alot of mediocre to stellar action/adventure titles. Hope this helps some.

Start out with the Genesis and get the Saturn later on. The Genesis has tons of great, cheap games. The Saturn, not so much. Plus, it's a lot harder finding a reliable Saturn than it is finding a reliable Genesis.

If you want, I can set you up with a nice Genesis package quite cheap. PM me if you're interested.

Go with the Genny

I'd choose the Saturn if you've got a lot of money to spend, so you can play some of the really cool games.

If not then definately go for the Genesis cause there is tons worth playing there too, but for a fraction of the price.

Genesis, then Saturn.

Genny. No contest.

Definitely Genesis.

1. Easier to find parts, controllers, accessories.

2. More reliable.

3. Many of the better games on the Saturn are sequels to Genesis games and it'd be in your best interest to beat and play those first before you move onto the Saturn sequels.

4. Games are cheaper and easier to find CIB if that's your thing.

5. Later on you can branch out to 32x, Master System and Sega CD games because with add-ons they are all playable on a Genesis.

Wow that helps a lot. =]] I believe I'll definitely check into a Genesis.

As for the graphics comment you still want to stick with Genny.
I always preferred the beautiful 2d over the early 3d.

But if you want really stunning 2d then the saturn is the way to go.

I agree with what everybody here says, get the Genesis first.

I recommend getting both systems eventually though. The Saturn may have a smaller library of games but is still essential in a serious collection. And if you're not that focussed on CIB you can get them pretty cheap as well. :)

....but is still essential in a serious collection.

That's the kind of thing that causes collectors to burn out. Putting undue pressure to own systems they may or may not enjoy based on peer pressure and credibility.

I think if you define what systems should make up a "serious collection", you'd find very few here fit the bill as that would easily be 35-40 systems or more. Hell only 184 of 1126 collectors own Combat for the 2600!

I almost have enough to fix that :P

Both systems are great. I remember back in the day I refused to upgrade from my Mega Drive/Mega-Cd/32x/Master System as I had built up such a large library that ran all on the one awesome system.

In the end Dragon Force convinced me I should get a Saturn. The system is amazing, and has THE best version of Street Fighter Zero 3 that even put the DC to shame. You can find a lot of really good titles for the Saturn, however the 16-bit days truly are the glory days of gaming. I say start with the Genesis.

Genesis by far, but the Saturn had some great games as well. Three Dirty Dwarves, Panzer Dragoon, Dragon Force, and my favorite Saturn exclusive Guardian Heroes were all available on the Saturn exclusively (To the best of my knowledge) and were excellent games. I actually wanted a Saturn over a PS1 because of Dragon Force, luckily my parents made the better decision that Christmas. One of the few times they've ever been right about this sort of thing.

Definately the Genesis.  It has some great games and many to choose from.

The Saturn was in that akward graphics phase, when 3D was becoming the thing.  I still think those types of graphics are the worst.

But there are some diamonds in the rough.

Definately the Genesis.  No doubt about it!

Heh, guess you're right. In no way was I trying to put pressure on him or something. ;)

But I think you know what I mean. I'd consider a Saturn "essential" but a 3DO or an Intelllivision not. But most likely many people will say otherwise.

Oh, I own Combat even though I only have 4 2600 games. :D

You can't pressure me about video games I swear lol Don't worry about it. I think I'll probably go with the Genesis sometime soon and then get the Saturn later...MAYBE b/c cverz2 is right the Saturn is in one of those bad 3D graphic times...which I don't really like.

Go with the genesis first... its cheaper in everyway (system, games, acces. etc.). But if your really want a saturn I would get one sooner than later.. Good systems are getting harder to find, and the better saturn games already run quite a bit more than most of the better genesis games, and they'll only get higher as time goes on.

Make it 185 :D with my recent 2600 haul

For US games, Genesis. But for Japanese games, definitely the Saturn.
