Title: Prince of Persia (next gen)
Post by: Sirgin on October 04, 2008, 11:57:07 AM
I just saw this interesting Developer Diary video of the new Prince of Persia at Gametrailers and I'm wondering how you guys think about this game.

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/40783.html

Most noticable is the new graphics style, I think it's awesome, but what do you think? Should it have been the same as previous installments or are the new graphics like a fresh start for the series?

There's also a new character, named Elika, that'll follow you on your journey and help out in battle. Do you like this idea or will it stand in the way for smooth and fast gameplay?

I really like the new graphic style too. Im willing to try some new game mechanics and visuals since I really didnt care for the last 2 PoP games.

Yeah. I don't understand why people were so upset that they changed the graphic style. Doesn't it look amazing?

People/fans will complain about even the slightest of change; even when it's a good change.

I lost interest in the series once it went 3D, but the visuals here get my thumbs up :)

Gameplay footage - If this game will play as good as it looks then this is a winner!

As it stands, Prince of Persia is the game I'm most excited about.

The graphical style is awesome and a half!

Has anyone tired the new remake of the first game, Prince of Persia Classic? It's a PSN/XBLA downloadable title that's been getting some pretty good buzz lately.

Things that annoyed me: That guy talking constantly and the Prince sounding as American as it gets. What were they thinking? Isn't he from Persia? :-\

Technically, he's only the prince OF Persia.

Would him sounding American actually surprise you?

I doubt in this day and age, having him speak with an Iranian accent would go over well with many viewers. A bit too volatile.

Right but they could've atleast done the effort of finding someone with a tiny bit of an accent rather than just taking the first 25 year old guy from New York.

Remember how the voices of the characters in Final Fantasy 12 weren't (all) American? I loved that.

PS: Not that I have anything against American voices but it can just become a bit much when every game regardless the topic has them.

This reminds me of when Max in Dark Chronicle (Dark Cloud 2) clears a dungeon level and says "And that takes care of you guys." :-\

The GT Review is here - everybody take a look because it is (despite it flaws) still one of the best games this holiday season.

I picked up the LE version from Gamestop for $40 new and it's really a blast to play.  I've read some complaints about the storyline and the dialogue, but it hasn't stood out to me.  I'm not one for 3D action titles as a whole and I'm thoroughly enjoying this title.

It just doesn't quite interest me. I've watched clips, reviews, all praising; but I don't feel a game like this at the moment.

I'll wait for it to become a bargain title before looking into getting a copy.

Exactly. I got Assassin's Creed as a part of a "Buy 2 Used Games, Get 1 Free" deal at EB/Gamestop and it averaged out to cost about $12 and change. PoP falls in the same category, imo. The price will keep dropping.

Are there still games out there that you'd buy at release or do you simply wait for all games to drop in price? (A smart thing, if you ask me)

There are some that I'll get right away. Recently I picked up Fable 2, Left 4 Dead, and Gears of War 2 at release. But I still look for ways to offset costs even if a game is new. For example, when I was done with Fable 2 (for now...until I rebuy it at a lower price later), I got good trade in value for it which I applied to offset $33 of the cost of Left 4 Dead. I bought Gears 2 at Circuit City at release because it came with a 1600 MS points card ($20 value).

Best Buy or Circuit City had a deal on Fallout 3 about a week or 2 after release, charging $45 for it. Since it was so close to Christmas, I decided to hold off on it, but I've made that $45 amount the benchmark in my mind so as not to pay any more than that for a copy.

I've got all sorts of twisted logic about what I'm willing to pay/assign value for any given game.

Upcoming games I'm willling to pay full price on (assuming they live up to the hype) in 2009 are Alpha Protocol, Bioshock 2: Sea of Dreams, and Dragon Age: Origins. Secondary possibilities include RE5, SF4, Halo Wars, Prototype, Halo 3: ODST, and Borderlands.
