Title: Megaman 9
Post by: shaggy on September 24, 2008, 08:47:07 PM
Who bought it?  Do you like it?  I picked it up and it brings back great memories.  The music is just like back in the NES days and the game is hard as hell!  Or maybe I haven't played it enough.  All in all I like this game.  The challenges are a neat addition, too.  The downloadable might not be worth it but we will find out when that releases!!

Jeremy Parish does an excellent job of explaining how well done Mega Man 9 is.

I'm a huge fan of MM9. There's a good chance this could end up as my new favorite Mega Man.

I am giddy with anticipation to get this game tomorrow when it comes out on PSN.

I feel defeated by this game.  I'm usually good at Mega Man games, but on this one I can't even get to a boss room.  It seems to be very much based on memorization, whereas in the other games you could at least kinda fight your way through to the end.

I still like it, though.  I need a real challenge.

MM9 was seriously well designed. Even though a lot of the puzzles have obvious solutions, it's still hard to actually DO them.

I picked it up within minutes of upload. I got to the final Wily battle the other night, but had zero E-Tanks and gave up for a while. I've seen the ending, but I'm going to try to finish it again sometime soon and get to work on a few challenges.

It looks great to me, I'm definately going to download it once I get a PS3

Ooooh, 1000 posts...

So, I tried out the demo that came out on the European Playstation Store, and all I have to say is "HOLY SHIT!" Incredible game. It really doesn't feel like a cheap ploy to tap into nostalgia, it feels like they really took their time and set out to craft a true period piece, but adding in some modern features like online leaderboards.

I'll have more impressions later once the full game is actually put up for sale in America sometime later today. However, based on this demo alone, I order EVERYBODY on this site who has a Wii, PS3, or 360 to download this game NOW (or next week if you're a 360 owner)! You will not regret it.

Capcom has done the greatest job of any 3rd party publisher making the transition to downloads on consoles. 1942: Joint Strike, Bionic Commando Rearmed, and Mega Man 9 are all excellent games. I cannot wait for them to finally get Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix out there.

There's a DEMO???? How do I get it?

There is on PS3 and I presume 360 will get one next week when the game comes out on there. Wii does not have a demo of the game since Nintendo doesn't let devs do that.

I just bought the game and it is now downloading! :D

Now downloaded and installed! :D

Couldn't have said it better. I've only gotten past Galaxy Man so far.

I never liked Mega Man for that sole reason of difficulty. God damn it, I want to have fun. Although granted I love Ninja Gaiden, probably shoulda given MM some more time.

Possibly one of the hardest games I've played in quite some time.

Finally beat the game. And I beat the final level without using any E-Tanks or M-Tanks, so I'm really happy with myself.

Possibly one of the hardest games I've played in quite some time.
It just proves how games have become easy with in-game hints, save-everywhere functions, etc...
Or maybe we gamers have become lazy and the devs are simply making what we're asking for.

It's nice to see a new hard game, it's like a breath of fresh air, really :)

I bought this yesterday.  Haven't had more than 5 mins to play it though.  Even the Wii version has DC and achievements, which I think is pretty cool.

Even if I never get to play it, I think it is so awesome that they have gone back to their roots and would love to see more 8-bit 16-bit releases to follow.

Just imagine how much more popular Sonic would still be if Sega had taken this path.

I personally would like to see a good follow-up to X4 done in X4's style. Hand-drawn animation in the cut-scenes, techno-rock soundtrack, same sprites and visual style. X5 never really clicked with me, though I loved X6. X7-8 made me lose interest.

I'm not sure about that.

Looking back at it now it might seem "obvious" how sticking with sprites & 2D graphics would do Sonic/Sega well, and maybe still even making consoles.
Yet you shouldn't forget that the average gamers always wants the best & the prettiest graphics; so if Sega's competition moved to 3D after the 16-bit era, I don't think they'd keep their popularity if they'd simply stayed in the 16-bit era. Back then gamers didn't knew that 3D Sonic games would be so bad so they wouldn't look at it like you do now :)

I finished it, having saved my damage reducer and M-Tank for the Wily battle. Guess I'll start on my clear save now. ^_^

Which ones in particular? You better not say Shadow the Hedgehog or that Sonic the Hedgehog game for PS360.

There's actually a project being worked on by some Sonic fans that aims to remix Sonic 2 in HD. They recently released a tech demo:
http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=12056

It's in a very early stage and requires a beefy computer to run it (they recommend 2.4 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 512 MB graphics RAM), but for later releases these requirements will be lowered and resolutions other than 1280x960 will be supported. I love what I've seen out of this team so far and I can't wait to see how the final product turns out.

I wanted to download it because my PC is more than ready for it but it says "32 bit Vista" only. :(

I DL'd the demo and tried it out. They did a good job. I had to stop playing it, though, because I knew I'd get addicted to it. ;D

I also didn't DL the full game because I agree with the earlier post that it seems to rely a lot on memorization. I might do so at a later date, but for now I have too much of a backlog of games to play. :-\

The current system specs to Sonic 2 HD seem really steep, but the sprites look wonderful.

I'm at about 20% for my first playthrough. so 40% for 3 sounds about right.

Just finished it for a second time today and jumped up to 42% for the challenges. Got all the speed runs in one go, didnt lose a life or continue, got speed metal and hard metal and a few others I cant remember off the top of my head.

You dirty Mac user, you!

Nah, I'm just kidding. ;) Actually I'm seriously thinking of getting a Mac. I would if I had the money. I know the Mac mini doesn't cost that much but that one hasn't been updated in quite a while and I wouldn't want to buy an older system now because there will probably be a keynote in a couple weeks from now with updated iMacs, so I'll see what happens.

Anyone notice that (@ least on Wii) there is DLC out? :D  For 200 points you can play as Protoman, there is also another DLC for 300 points.

Apparently, everybody got a backorder email.

"They're in the warehouse, we'll get as many out as we can."

It's confusing and annoying, but we'll figure it out soon enough. Until then, the Capcom-Unity forums are crazy.

Are you talking about that limited run of 200 copies? With the "NES"-game and stuff?

If that's the case, then no wonder it's sold out...I can imagine a lot more than 200 people really wanting that. :P

Up to 62% Now for challenges. Its going to be a lot slower now.

Does anyone have any tips for defeating Galaxy Man in under 10 seconds. He's like the easiest boss in the game but it pains me that he's the only one I can beat for the 10 second challenges.

Not sure which of the thousands of Sonic posts to reply to but...

I enjoy the current 2d Sonics. Honestly, Sonic Advance (the original one) is my second favorite Sonic game. I didn't like Sonic Advance 2 though since all you had to do is hold right. Sonic Rush was fairly awesome and had the best multiplayer in any Sonic game and I hear Sonic Rush Adventure is supposed to be just as fantastic (except that game really flew under the radar for some reason).

Up to 72% for challenges now. Im at Wily's Fortress on a run going for Peacekeeper and Bust a Move. So far its been pretty fun. Peacekeeper is one of the more amusing challenges and im really looking forward to Wily's Fortress now. Also I finally beat Concrete Man in under 10 seconds so now i've only got Galaxy Man to finish quickly. He is so annoying.

92% for challenges.... and i'm done now. I have no desire to finish the last few challenges because it would take a lot of time for very little reward. Time to move onto the next game.
Also if anyone needs any tips for any challenges except Mr.Perfect and Last Man Standing shoot me a PM and i'll try to help you out.
