Title: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: Sirgin on August 01, 2008, 11:46:44 AM Title says it all.
Remember: this includes not only the actual gaming, but also being on forums, blogging, going to garage sales/videogame stores, etc... For me, I'm in vacation now (until late september, yay!) so I'm at an average of 30-40 hours per week :D When I got classes, this drops to about 15-20 hours per week and during exam period to about 10 hours per week or less even :( Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: BadEnoughDude on August 01, 2008, 12:07:45 PM I spend more time on this site than I do playing games these days.
Selling my games and taking a vacation (or even moving somewhere new) is an option for me right now. Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: phoenix1967 on August 01, 2008, 02:15:09 PM Most of the time, I'm 10-15 hours (my vote). Taking into account X-Play, Internet time, and gameplay.
However, when I'm in "addict" mode (like I've been the last few weeks) that number can get near to or above 40 easily. :P Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on August 01, 2008, 02:19:27 PM >40 most weeks
lately though much less what with the working and the friends being around an wanting to do things that involve moving. Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: NES_Rules on August 01, 2008, 03:45:48 PM I put less than 5 because I didn't read the part about including stuff related to video games also. So with that included, it's easily more than 40. I probably average 5 hours/day here plus 8 hours garage saling, 2 hours at the flea market.
Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: DuncanR2N on August 01, 2008, 06:46:42 PM 15-20 I'd say roughly

There's a huge difference between less than 5 and more than 40 :PMaybe I should've made it so people can change their votes...oh well :) Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: UNFORGIVINGPAIN on August 02, 2008, 08:36:32 AM Less than 5 hours, I have been working 60 hours a week and sleeping most of the weekend.
Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: logical123 on August 02, 2008, 03:16:36 PM 10-15, including this site. I don't game that much, but I can also get into addict mode and hit 25+ hours or more. A really bad week will be 35 or more hours. That is a LOT for me. :)
Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: Kimoosabi on August 02, 2008, 05:39:04 PM I had to say over 40, though only maybe 15-20 hours or so a week are actually spent playing games. The rest of the over 40 hours are spent perusing this site and others like Kotaku and Joystiq during the day at work.
Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: NESman93 on August 02, 2008, 09:15:32 PM I gotta say about 30-40 a week
Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: cyberfluxor on August 02, 2008, 11:49:53 PM Gaming is a part-time job for me. I'd say 15-20 hours is the average. Some weeks I'm just swamped and no extra time, but others I'm crusing everywhere for games, music, movies, hardware, software, and many other numbers of things. Sometimes I'll log onto an online game like Battlefield and not get up for nearly 5 hours to eat some food, then go back to the front lines. Once I move out on my own I'm certainly positive more time will be spent on my entertainment goods than now since there'll be money going towards a mortage and living expenses that it'll be less feasible to keep up with my spending habbits.
Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: Tan on August 03, 2008, 12:29:45 AM Most weeks less than 5 but occasionally 40 for an anticipated new release I've been really looking forward to. Since I tend to multitask a lot while using PCs I don't dedicate time to reading news or working on the site per se, but do so while in the midst of several things at once.
Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: shylock on August 03, 2008, 06:32:54 PM I easily spend 20-30 hours a week gaming when I work 5-6 days a week and I spend more time gaming when I have more days off.
Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: Mr. Ksoft on August 03, 2008, 08:30:58 PM Gaming's pretty damn important to me, so 15-20 hours during the school year. That's a considerable amount of time in a fast-paced American life. Although, a lot of that is from surfing here and other gaming sites, if that's to be counted.
I'd estimate during the summer months I'm up to maybe 30 to 35 hours. However, I'm in the school marching band and during marching band season (tomorrow through October) my time is pretty much reduced to a good 4 hours or so of home playing time as I'm juggling band and school simultaneously... although I usually get 3 or 4 more hours in via playing handhelds on bus rides to marching band contests and before and after practice waiting to get home. :P Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: Ghost Soldier on August 04, 2008, 09:07:24 AM I'm going with 10 to 15 hours of reading and playing. This does not include my obsession with Rfgen though.

I made the poll to see how much people spend on all videogame-related things, not just the actual gaming (which can often be much less) The poll is looking good by the way; very balanced out :D Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: ga5ket on August 05, 2008, 03:48:55 PM I'm not sure it's a good thing, but the management side of the hobby now takes up more time for me than the actual playing, there's just so much to get through that when I do manage to sit down with a controller it's quite frequently time to catch some sleep. Life used to be so much simpler when I was at college.

Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: modest9797 on August 05, 2008, 10:40:28 PM I'd say 2 hours a day.
Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: Fuyukaze on August 05, 2008, 10:58:05 PM I want to say 10-15 but I realy dont know. As I got fired yesterday, I have lots of time but as I sorta have a girlfriend, it's hard to think about hours and games.

Bummerdoodle on getting fired... :( It happens to most people usually once in their life though, so don't feel down in the dumps. :) HAPPY TIMES AHEAD, I assure you! Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: Sirgin on August 07, 2008, 04:48:27 AM HAPPY TIMES AHEAD, I assure you! Yup. Lots of gaming time while looking for a job. And eventually finding something better than your previous job :)Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: lackofselfcontrol on August 07, 2008, 05:55:03 AM I spend almost all my time with games around me. Whether it be the internet, actually playing one, just looking at a box, or talking about them with friends.
Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: totalgridlock on August 07, 2008, 08:57:17 AM While I was at uni, depending on how much work I had I usually put in about 10 hours a week. I've just finished uni now, and while I'm looking for a job I'm finding much more time to play. 20+ hours, sometimes as many as 30 hours. It's great. I need a job to buy more games though...
Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: BiohazardSEGA on August 16, 2008, 04:51:22 PM Probably about 5 hours a day, sometimes more. So, I've put myself in the 30-40 category :-)
Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: hXd on August 20, 2008, 11:26:15 AM I put myself under 5-10 basically because my life demands a lot from me. And by life I mean other people.
Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: Shimra on August 20, 2008, 08:02:20 PM I'm on gamefaqs more than any other site posting on board 8, but that's a social board so I dunno if that actually counts or not. Other than that I really don't play videogames much anymore. But when I used to get really into an RPG the number could be well above 40 easily.

Unless what you're talking about in that forum isn't about games at all, it still counts.Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: logical123 on August 21, 2008, 05:50:00 PM I haven't played more than about an hour of games thus far this week. *shakes fist at school*
Oh well, education before gaming... :P :) Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: Arrrhalomynn on September 18, 2008, 02:43:36 PM Imagine how much we could accomplish if we wouldn't waste all our time on playing games. We'd have found a cure for cancer by now for sure.
Anyways, I think I'm between 5 and 10 hours a week at the moment. And it's probably closer to 5 than 10. The most recent game I finished was Okami for the Playstation 2 and that took me months. I played some Civilization IV inbetween, but not enough to push the average weekly play time over 10 hours. Title: Re: How much time a week do you spend on video games? Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on September 18, 2008, 06:44:36 PM Nah, with my power out the last 4 days I figured I would have done something productive...but I found I was just sitting on the porch staring at the world rather than sitting in my chair staring at a screen.
Perhaps the former is better for the soul, but hell, doesn't seem so different. |
