Basis of our constitution, eh?  How do you figure that?  Are you talking about the British North America Acts which certainly had nothing to do with the US?  Sorry to burst your bubble, but our constitution, cour system, parliament, all of it is quite British.

Don't worry about insulting Canada :)  I think you'll find we return the favour - in spades.

And Den is right, North American-ers, I suppose, technically are American's.  Got me on that one.

Here are some other good Canadian exports:

Basketball (yes, invented by a Canadian)
Superman (co-invented by a Canadian)
Telephones (Alexander Graham Bell is a Canadian)
Wayne Gretzky
Jim Carrey
William Shatner
Acrylics
dental mirror
Electron Microscope
Green Plastic Garbage bags
IMAX
Insulin
Java
lightbulb
Pablum
Rollerskate
Trivial Pursuit
Washing machine
Yachtzee

Bet y'all thought these were American, eh?  :)

Refernence: http://www3.sympatico.ca/taniah/Canada/things/

At any rate, this is a roll call for non-US members.  Arrr - what about you?

OD

If you really want to get technical, barely anyone (if anyone) in the US is "American". Indians aren't even truly native Americans.

You're right. Why oh why do we need insulin or lightbulbs or the telephone or washing machines?

Title: Re: Non American members

It is noce to HAVE those things but we don't NEED them. And I agrre those 4 items are good but the rest.

Well, some people DO need insulin.  Death usually isn't a very good alternative for them.

No.  In fact, the only thing humans NEED is air, water, and nutrients.  Gravity is helpful, as is sunlight.

I will take this opportunity, on behalf of Canada to apologize for the following:

Celine Dion
Avril Lavigne
Tom Green
Howie Mandell
and, of course, insulin

Insulin is good.

You forgot about Rush and Brian Adams. You should apologize for them.

No, Rush and Bryan Adams are good.  I won't apologize for The Guess Who, or Trooper either.

OK I will let you  slide on those two.

I won't apologize for The Guess Who, or Trooper either. Who? and Who?

The song "American Woman"?  Everyone knows that, come on now.  How young are you?  That's The Guess Who.

Trooper: "We're here for a good time", "Raise a little hell", "Boys in the bright white sports car" - come on now.

Next you're going to tell me you've never heard of Neil Young or  Alex Trebek.

I don't think Canada has nukes. And they don't need any as long as they have Celine Dion.

*I'm apologizing beforehand for the French joke that will be coming*

Actually it was Canada, the British Empire and several Native American nations against the US and France.  Like France did anything but make the war harder on us.

If you think these thread moves will force us to stay on topic you don't know this bunch very well do you?

A good idea in theory, though most likely doomed to failure.

Alexander Graham Bell did not invent the telephone. He stole the idea from a patent office, and improved upon it, but he did not invent it.  It was invented by chance, by a chap trying solve the ""bandwidth"" problems of the telegraph. The book the Victorian Internet is a good read on the history of the telegraph.

Canada inflicted the English speaking world with "the Kids of Degrassi Street" t.v show.

omg! I totally watched Degrassi: The Next Generation (I think that's the full title anyway) a few days ago. I cried  because some kid got teased a whole bunch and then he shot up some other kids. I love that show so much.

I will see about getting a pic of this kid and tell me if he looks like anyone on the show.

I only saw a few episodes of "The Kids of Degrassi Street", but watched a hell of a lot of "Degrassi Jr. High" and, of course "Degrassi High".

Watched the first episode of "Degrassi: The Next Generation" as the characters had a reunion.  I think the only characters who are still in it from Degrassi Jr. High are Joey, Katlin, Snake (the teacher), and Spike (the chick he married).

It was an awesome show.  I'm just too old for the new one now.  I didn't know it was shown in the UK.  I knew it was shown in the US because Kevin Smith and the guy who plays "Jay" (as in Jay and Silent Bob) were in or are going to be in an episode.
