Title: The Gasoline Thread
Post by: logical123 on May 13, 2008, 04:44:47 PM
Thought I would start a thread on the state of Gas prices in your area. So I did.

Metropolitan Chicago's average price for reg unleaded passed San Franciso today, at a price of $4.001 on average. Illinois continues to be plauged by rapidly rising gas prices, mainly the Chicagoland area. In the course of a week, the price of regular has gone up 17 CENTS!!! :o

I will continue to rant daily. Post info on your hometown, if you like.
I kinda want James to do a write-up on the petrol prices across the pond. :D

I am a new member of gas buddy. It is a user input community that allows people to report gas prices anywhere in the US and Canada (Sorry James, no UK support for you :(). It really is a great website! The ironic thing is, well... I won't be driving for another year, at least.

I can't help being obsessed with gas prices, okay!! Just lay off!!! :embarassed:

PS: It's up to $4.007

PSS: $4.015 now

I saw some shocking fuel prices this week.

Petrol - $9.32/US gallon (123.9ppl)
Diesel - $10.08/US gallon :o (133.9ppl)

But around here the main petrol stations are about 114.9-116.9 for petrol and 124.9 for diesel. The higher prices were from independent stations out in the countryside.

4.099 a gallon at the gas station just down the street from my house.  it jumped 30 cents in three days.

Title: Re: The Gasoline Thread
Post by: logical123 on May 28, 2008, 09:01:11 AM
Chicago's Average today as of now is $4.193, down from $4.205 yesterday. The station near my house keeps switching between $4.139, $4.159, $4.179, or $4.199. And I live in a suburb of Chicago, where the prices are supposed to be 20-50 cents lower, not 5!!!

Title: Re: The Gasoline Thread
Post by: UNFORGIVINGPAIN on May 29, 2008, 05:23:55 AM
Pittsburgh, PA area is $3.85 - $3.95

I drive a company van from my house to work and back each day. Each van has a gas card(company credit card) in it.
I still drive a GMC Safari van, but because they don't make them anymore, they have been replacing them with Ford F250 vans. So now with the bigger vans and higher gas price, they have gone from $18,000 a month in gas to $42,000 a month in gas to fuel all of the vehicles.

Beware those of you who live in an area where a summer gas mix is mandated. It's more expensive, and it shall be making its return on June 2.

Title: Re: The Gasoline Thread
Post by: logical123 on May 30, 2008, 07:23:48 AM
Chicago was holding steady at about $4.19 for 2 or 3 days. Now are average is $4.230. One week ago it was $4.195, one month $3.844, one year $3.669.

Wow...Pathetic.

The good news is Chicago isn't the highest in the country any more. The bad news is California is going to go poor.

British Petroleum, eh? All I say to that is lolwut?

121.9 per liter = 1.219 pounds/liter = 4.61441695982 pounds per gallon = 9.13146972 USD per gallon.

We pay $4.099, they pay $9.129. Difference = $5.03 per gallon. Us Americans need to stop whining.

No, they should start whining (or whine louder). Nobody should be paying more than $3/gallon.

I think I heard (On the internet, mind) Britain has the cheapest Diesel in Europe.... until taxes are added onto it. There's Gordon Brown telling the fuel companies to make more and bring the prices down when most of it is taxes. ::)

Title: Re: The Gasoline Thread
Post by: logical123 on June 01, 2008, 11:45:52 AM
The main reason why fuel is so expensive in Europe is because of heavy taxes. One, to discourage usage, and two, to help pay for much needed state things, such as schools, recreational parks, free health-care, and many more things that Americans have, but they just arn't as nice as our European Cousin's stuff. Belgium has one of the highest fuel prices on Earth, but they also have one of the best public school systems on Earth. Coincedence? I think not. :D

Also, this is the longest thread I have ever created. Over thirty responses!! Keep it up.

Prices have been creeping up a penny every few days here. The local one was up to 120.9ppl. I was in town and filled up while I was there at 117.9ppl. Just around the corner, BP was 121.9ppl.

I haven't been out to check prices this weekend but Shell tanker drivers are protesting, demanding more money. I think I read they're currently paid an average of £32,000 a year and turned down a rise up to £41,500 by January 2009. Shell only makes up around 10% of UK petrol stations but people are still going to be panic buying because the media is an arsewipe.

I think what has to be mentioned it that in England is that we get taxed twice on the fuel bought, as in fuel duty which is about 65% and then another 17.5% in value added tax (sales tax), this is what makes is so expensive here, unfortunately nether of those will go away so prices will always be artificially high.

Actually, fuel duty is a fixed amount, not a percentage. But yeah, we pay two different taxes on fuel. I think the duty is around 51 pence per litre.

Average seems to be down to $3.899 around here although I've seen as "low" as $3.859.

I'm not saying $4 gas is a good thing, however, it is having some good side effects. For one thing, more people are carpooling and avoiding unnecessary trips which reduces traffic for everyone. But what I think is a very good thing is that it is getting a lot of people thinking about and switching to alternative fuels, which is definitely a good thing. Oil was never meant to last forever, but everyone just ignored that fact while it was cheap, but now that it's $4/gallon people are realizing we NEED something better. [/Environmentalist rant]

It is a trend, the speculators have been suppressed by the end to the Executive moratorium on drilling.  If Congress would get their act together and hold a vote on the matter, then it would go down much further.  As it stands, the Executive moratorium has been lifted, but there is still a Congressional moratorium.  Don't count on it being lifted in the near future as Pelosi has refused to allow the matter to come to a vote.

(Tell me, who is the party of the people?)

Ah, we're at €1.61/litre here in Belgium.

One gallon is 3.8 liters, so your gas costs $ 6.118/gallon. Almost twice as much as the prices in the US. Here in Belgium it's even worse :(

It's also due top the fact that the dollar has slipped in value against the Canadain Doller. 10 years ago American gas was 'cheaper' than Canadian gas, but scince our economy sucks right now, well, yeah. You get the point.

Were the people in the line having their engines on while waiting? Because that would be pretty ironic.

Now that I think of it, it always irritates me when people leave their engine running for too long when they're not driving. Like when a person sees a friend walking down the street and stops over to say hi, but it ends up a 15min conversation. Pretty retarded when people are complaining about the gas prices 24/7.

Like, is it too much of an effort to turn your engine off? It only takes half a second and another whole second to turn it back on. It's like this rediculous idea people got stuck in their heads that, somehow, they'll be away faster when the engine still is running. Like every millisecond counts or something. Did you know that a car standing still emits more CO2 than one actually driving?

Anyway, sorry for the rant, just wanted to say it ;)

I agree. It bugs the hell out of me when I go to the drive-thru at the bank and everyone around me has their engine idling. If I know I'll be stopped for more than a minute, I shut it off.

That's great. I really don't understand why so many people leave theirs on. I mean, all you need to do is reach out your arm 30cm. It's not like you have to get out of the car (like with the cars of the 1910s or something) to manually turn it back on. Even a car that's 30 years old can turn on in a second.

Warning! A little rant about gasoline prices.
Why is the average American consumer so damn stupid? Just a few short weeks ago, the national gas price average was over $4/gallon and everyone was saying how we should have learned our lesson in the 1970's and started being more efficient back then. For a short while, people quit buying the huge SUVs and trucks and started buying smaller, more reasonable cars.
Now, gas prices have started to drop to around $3.50 (here at least) and truck and SUV sales are on the rise again. WTF? Are we really that stupid? Did we seriously forget what $4 gas was like?
That is all.

Or the rise is truck and SUV sales just might be attributed to the dealers cutting prices to very, very low levels.  The Ford dealerships around here are offering $12,000 rebates on trucks that would have been ~$24,000-$28,000 sticker.  Others are advertising 40% off the sticker price on new trucks.

$12,000 off of the truck means you can absorb the price increase of $3.50 to $4.00 for 288,000 miles assuming horrendous mileage of 12 MPG over the life of the vehicle.  I wouldn't blame the consumer for recognizing a deal when it exists.  If you are looking for someone to blame, you might want to look at the truck manufacturers, which aren't just American companies.  Toyota and Nissan are doing these same things.

I agree with NES_Rules.

Gas prices might fluctuate a bit, but the overal trend is a climbing one.

It's the same thing here in Europe since maybe 4-5 years: SUV's and 4x4s are selling more than ever before. 80% of the people buying these vehicles have no need for cars this big whatsoever, they just "feel safer sitting a bit higher than everybody else". (I litterally heard a woman say that on the news a couple of months ago)

The US has a much longer tradition of buying over-the-top SUV's like Cadillac Escalades and other stupid cars, it'll be much harder for them to switch to smaller, more fuel-efficient cars.

In my opinion, unless you're a plummer or something like that or have a family of 5+, you shouldn't be allowed to buy such fuel-eating monsters.

It pisses me off everytime I see "Ty" of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" give away a Ford Explorer EL. "EL stands for extended lenght! It's an even bigger car!!!! Fuck the environment" Asshole >:(

I understand what you're saying and there probably were/are a lot of people who didn't buy trucks and SUVs for the economic reasons. But, I was referring more to the people who suddenly became environmentalists or wanted to get away from foreign oil when the prices went up.

I agree with that. If there was a reasonable way to check to see why people "need" these huge SUVs and trucks, anyone who really doesn't need one but drives it anyway, should automatically have to pay twice the price for gas.

Now, I drive a truck and I love driving a truck and it's all I'll probably ever drive. But, I do occasionally haul firewood, stone, mulch and stuff like that. But I also drive an S-10 with a 2.2L 4 cylinder because I know that is all the truck I need 95% of the time. It gets around 22 mpg, which isn't spectacular, but not bad either. I could even put in E85 if I could find a place that sells it.

Title: Re: The Gasoline Thread

The only way the atmosphere would ever become un-breathable would involve the U.S., Russia, and China, going all out with nukes whilst SIMULTANEOUSLY every volcano in the world went off. Even then everything would probably be right as rain in a good five hundred years, albeit with a lot less humans running around. If, IF we polluted enough to cause the temperature to rise slowly it would lead to an excess of fresh water in the oceans which would shut down thermohaline circulation and cause an ice age in the Northern Hemisphere. The influx of ice would absorb all of our awful pollution and kill or misplace a good many of us but NOT make the atmosphere go kaput, it would make it cleaner than ever.

The Earth is an amazing thing full of cycles that take longer than humans will ever know, or exist. Our planet has checks and balances and it will take a little more than neighbor Jimmy-Bob's Monster Truck to take it down.

Environmental things to worry about are shortages: water shortages, fuel shortages (which really comes down to politics), and the God damn rainforest soil which is being leeched by crappy farmers who don't cycle their crops and will eventually lead to food shortages in South America.

First of all, aside from the aforementioned nuclear holocaust/volcano holocaust, there is very little evidence that shows us destroying the planet at any rate that will make it unlivable for mankind. This fact, of course, is one of hot debate and I try not to argue it any more. I have read my facts, I have taken several geological courses and the resounding answer to the problem is: we have no idea and will have to wait and see. The thing is, we will have to wait thousands of years to see.

This, along with the fact that--for all the conserving and preservation of the planet that we pour our resources into--there could be a comet or asteroid out there with Earth's name on it, leads me to not give a damn about things and enjoy what's what while I'm here.

There are many other factors as well, and these may be the shallowest...but hell, I'm going to go play a videogame.

It would be interesting to see if we survive the next ice age. We should, given that technology will be more advanced by then. Maybe to the point that we've developed interstellar travel and could find another planet to inhabit. But we're talking thousands of years.

We survived Ice Ages of the past so I don't see why we couldn't survive future ones.

Please not that an ice age isn't as dramatic as it sounds, the temperature drops maybe 10°C on average and around the equator you still get a nice 25°C / 77°F :)

I pulled into the station to the only pump available and a worker comes running out saying that they are running out of gas and have to shut down.  I tell her that I'm running on fumes and won't be able to make it home, so she reluctantly allows me to fill my tank.  Keep in mind that this is a "nice" gas station in a "nice" part of town, so it doesn't have a large, towering sign with prices as those are apparently against zoning laws for the "nice" part of town.  I didn't bother checking the price at the pump either, for some unknown reason.  Anyways, I fill up and pull away.  When I pass the station down the street I see that their price was $3.72.  I just filled up for $3.42.

The person running the station must have made a mistake when programming the prices into the pumps/signs, and I guess they cant change the prices until the station is empty.  There station was certainly not low on fuel, as the pumps were working about as fast as I've seen gas pumps work.

Nah, but my dad graduated from Southfield-Lathrup High School! Class of '77 Baby!!!

My grandpa's work had his family (Grandpa, grandpa, dad, 1 brother and 3 sisters) moving around a boatload. He has lived in Chicago, IL, Riverside, IL, Berwyn,IL, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Lathrup, Michigan, and many others.

He worked for GE and Honeywell. In the computer department (:D). My gramps remembers when the first memory unit came out in the 1940/50's. A glass diode tube filled with mercury that could hold about 32bits of data. The thing was 5 feet long. He knows so much about everything... It's crazy.

Oh! He also worked with Stephen Spielburg's father.

Yes, I think so. But not by much. (I'd have to check prices to know for sure)

All I know it's much more expensive here than in the US. ;)

I remember it being a topic on the news and they compared countries and Belgium was like the 15th most expensive country for gas while the US was at the 120th place. Oh and in Venezuela the gas is so cheap you can fill your tank for less than €1, lol. :P

Title: Re: The Gasoline Thread
Post by: James on October 06, 2008, 04:15:36 PM
Currently, the cheapest I've seen is €1.38/litre. The highest I've seen was in July and it was €1.59/litre.

According to Wikipeida, Sierra Leone has the world's highest petrol prices at about double the price in Britain.

I found that page aswell. HERE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gasoline_and_diesel_usage_and_pricing) it is.

If you go down to the stats and let US$/gal go from high to low you'll find that the prices are:

in US$/gal:

Belgium: 9.39
UK: 8.67
US: 3.49

Heck, in that list Belgium is ranked 6th most expensive country for gas. So I don't want to see you Americans complain about gas prices anymore! :P

I don't know what the public transportation system near you is like, but it's pretty much non-existent in all but the biggest cities in the US. Even huge cities like LA have virtually none (I'm not sure if they have any, actually). And most American cities are spread out so there's not a lot in walking distance for the majority of them.

And, Americans are just stubborn, greedy, lazy complainers. And we don't really care about the rest of the world. It's pretty much the same reason we don't use the metric system.

Haha, I knew someone would bring that up! Buses in my town are a flat rate of £1.60 one way or £3 return. When I was in New Zealand in August it was the equivalent of 75p to get all the way into town from nearly the outskirts. The nearest bus stop to me is a mile away and I'm hardly in a remote area. If you already have a car, it's cheaper and more convenient to drive.

I can't remember specific train prices but they keep going up above inflation every year and are never on time. I think my friend was saying he wanted to go to Edinburgh, about 400 miles away. By train it would cost £120 one way. By car it would cost £50-60 in petrol.

Don't think that because Britain isn't as big as America we don't travel. The average mileage per year for a British car is 12,000-15,000 miles, which I think is about the same as America.

Busses cost €0.8 for one way and €1.6 return here. But prices can go up if you go through 3 or more "zones". I have a "Buzzy Pass" though, which costs €162. With that it costs me €0.4 per day to take as many busses as I want.

We have the same problem here in Belgium. If you're a normal person and want to go from Brussel North to Leuven and back, it costs €9. And the ride is less than 20min!!! :o

It's pretty much the same reason we don't use the metric system.
Don't get me started on that. :P

There's so many advantages the metric system has, it's unbelievable you guys are still stuck with that old non-standardized crap. I don't want to offend any of you but, c'mon... Feet and inches? Gallons and ounces? Stones and pounds? It so difficult to calculate with those sizes. In the metric system everything is a multiple of 10, couldn't be more simple. :)

Your public transportation may not be cheap or easy to use, but you at least have it. And I wasn't saying that's the only reason, it's just one of the many.

Also, I'm sure the average fuel efficiency is much higher for your cars. We're really just now starting to get into the smaller cars like you've had for decades.

It's pretty much the same reason we don't use the metric system.
Don't get me started on that. :P

Yup, I know. Old, lazy, uninformed and mostly suspicious people is what keeps big reforms from happening everywhere around the world.

It's the same reason countries like Norway still have their own little currency instead of the Euro. A majority of people have to vote "yes" for it to happen, but somehow most people "don't want" the Euro there. I know this because me and my dad had an half hour chat about the Euro with a guy at a bank in Norway a couple of years ago. He said the whole Norwegian bank world would love to have the Euro but the population just keeps turning it down.

Sometimes I think it'd be for the good of the nation when decisions like that don't have to be approved by every single stupid citizen in a country but can be made on a higher level.

Even if it would take +/- 50 years for the metric system to be truly integrated in your society, it'd still be worth it. Believe me: rather a difficult, expensive transition to a good system than sticking with one that can't even be called a "system". ;)

The highest i saw gas driving back up here was about 3.90. It was at one of those gas stations that you had to turn off the highway to get to in the middle of nowhere. Drove another 20-30 miles down the road to a town and it dropped like 30 cents.
The cheapest i got was 3.12.

It takes time for crude oil to get to petrol pumps at the stations. If a petrol station buys their fuel for 10p/litre over 1000 litres (completely made up numbers) they would need to sell it before the next shipment comes in at 7p/litre. But it could take a couple of storage tanks before the average price of their stored petrol comes down enough to be able to drop the price for the end consumers.

THe gas station i worked at prices arbitrarily went up and down.
It had nothing to do with when we got our deliveries.

If there was word of a gas crisis or some sort of holiday or fishing tourney or something coming up gas went up.

Going down was always what surprised me.

Pollution controls. Because of the conditions, they need a gasoline mixture that is cleaner, which makes it more expensive. That's one of the reasons anyway, there are probably others.

The Chicago area seems to be much more expensive than most other places of the US. Do you know what causes that?

*cough*OBAMA*cough*

The actual reason is this:

Illinois has one of the highest fuel tax rates in the country, at 57.9 cpg (cents per gallon). California is highest, at 63.9 cpg. In the City of Chicago city limits, there is an extra tax of 12.75cpg. So you can be on Austin, which is one of the dividing streets. On one side, gas is $3.999. On the other, $4.149. The main reason is that we do in fact have the 4th highest fuel tax in the country.

Oh, and Obama has nothing to do with it.[quote author=Sirgin

Well sure Obama has nothing to do with it, that was just a stupid stab, but come now.

The reason you have expensive gas is because you have the 4th highest sales tax? That sure explains a lot. :P

Where did the higher taxes come from? If I remember correctly it is that the feds tack on a tax on Illinois gas, having never relinquished control of the tax after they need funds to build the highways. I can't remember the details exactly, it was something my father told me as we drove west and I asked why he refused to gas up in Illinois.

I won't, I promise. But first: $3.349. O.O

Okay, now my explanation: profit. The gas station business is one of the worst in the world. The profit on a gallon of gas is extremely low (as in from 1 tenth of a cent to 2 cents), and sometimes, like all businesses, the have losses. Gas stations, on the other hand, have HUGE losses. I am now going to launch into a scenario...

Gas is at a wholesale price of $3.149 (the price of a barrel doesn't have anything directly to do with gas prices. It is the wholesale cost that we should worry about. Barrel cost trickles down into wholesale, which trickles down into the pumps).

The Federal Government adds a mandatory tax of $0.249 per gallon.
The State government adds a mandatory tax of $0.549 per gallon.
The City government adds a tax of a percentage no lower than 2.75%, and no higher than 4.75%.
Add sales tax of whatever the sales tax is. (11% or so in Cook Cnty.)

So we have:
$3.149 + $0.249 + $0.549 = $3.947 * 3% = $4.065 * 11% = $4.512

$4.512 as your current base price. Subtract $4.512 from $4.999, and you get $0.487 per gallon profit. The gas station business would boom, tax revenue would increase, and we could have better funding for everything. Americans need to stop whining at every little damn thing. As James said, gas costs upwards of $8 a gallon in the UK, and they still drive about the same amount as us.

Rant is over. And without saying 'environment'. I brought up Europe, but not as part of my plan, so it doesn't count. :P ;)

But you forget the fact that if people are spending more on gas, they have to spend less on other stuff, so other industries will be hurt. So yeah, it helps the owner of the gas station in that he gets more revenue, but it doesn't help the overall economy any. And I don't think gas stations are hurting any. Sure they don't make anything on gas, but they sell gas just to get you into the store so you buy $50 worth of snacks, cigarettes and lotto tickets.

$2.73 @ WaWa

Europeans generally have more effecient methods of transportation than most Americans have.  Many of the cars in America are big and meant to have a ton of room.  The rest of the world usually have more effecient 4 cylinder engines, and lighter cars that help add to better fuel economy.  Due to different safety standards, American vehicles have to be stronger and beefier (and thus heavier) to reduce deaths and injuries when they get hit by a 2+ ton SUV.

This morning I saw on CNN how oil companies are getting extremely worried about the continuous price drop of oil. Demands are supposedly falling rapidly and so they'll most likely artificially raise the price by creating a smaller supply. (by simply pumping up less oil)

They also talked about how some new innovations/research that oil companies don't find worth investing in if the price of a barrel stays below $100.

One of the richest industries in the world makes less money for only 3 months and already they complain. :-\

Sure there is a Wawa at the top of the street I live on, but I still laugh every time I see the sign for Wawa. What a crazy name for a corner store.

Yea, it is a pretty crazy name.  I've heard that it is the name of the type of goose that is on their logo.

Yeah, when the rental agent mentioned the name of the establishment as Wawa my dad and I just did a double take and could not believe someone would name their establishment that.

From the Obama campaign site:

Enact a Windfall Profits Tax to Provide a $1,000 Emergency Energy Rebate to American Families:Barack Obama and Joe Biden will enact a windfall profits tax on excessive oil company profits to give American families an immediate $1,000 emergency energy rebate to help families pay rising bills. This relief would be a down payment on the Obama-Biden long-term plan to provide middle-class families with at least $1,000 per year in permanent tax relief.

He intends to directly tax oil companies and give their money to the poor. First of all, this is socialism. Second of all, this provides no incentive for oil companies to produce as much, if this policy were to be enacted American companies would have no reason, no incentive, to produce more oil. This would lead to more foreign dependency and higher prices. That $1000 your family gets will be spent on higher gas prices.

Granted though, with prices at what they are now, Obama won't be able to enact this policy. His plan is to tax every barrel over $80, but if prices are under that like they are now then he can't say he's taking "windfall" profits from the "evil" oil companies, because in reality the Oil Companies are suffering like the rest of us in this economic period of unrest.

It will be a wild ride I'm sure. The sinking economy might just sink any of the plans Obama had for socializing the country. We can only hope.

The article also said that if China falls into the recession too, the price could go down even further to $25.

With oil prices that low, it probably won't be long before the US government is bailing out the US oil companies as well as the automobile companies and the banks.

My dad just got back from Columbus and he said gas was around $1.40 there and steadily rose the farther north he went. They say gas is always more in PA, but I never buy it there and don't go often enough to know that for sure.
But "an arm and a leg"? As long as it is under $2, I say it's cheap.

Still above $2 here!!!  I paid $2.05 this morning, but the area average is $2.14.  The state attorney general is investigating why we have the highest gas prices in the continental US outside of NY City.  Early finding seem to point to the local stations all deciding to keep the prices high and make more per gallon.

What do you mean "now"? Diesel overtook petrol about ten years ago. People started realising how much more efficient diesel engines are, so diesel became more popular. The government then decided to put taxes up on diesel to cash in on it because they are bastards.

XD

Diesel is exuberantly more expensive here. I remember when gas was at a high of around $4.299, there were a couple places selling it for $5.499. I've heard of it topping $6 in a couple places before too... Now, gas is at $1.949 - $2.049, and diesel is $2.49 - $2.99 round here.

Title: Re: The Gasoline Thread

Summer 2008 had a huge increase in prices. Diesel was up to £1.359, which at the time was about $2.70, or about $10 a US gallon.

Bizarre.

I guess Belgium is "special" then. Diesel has been cheaper than gas here for as long as I can remember. I couldn't imagine it any other way.

Also, if Diesel is more expensive than gas, there is no longer a point in buying a Diesel car. People buy (more expensive) Diesel cars here because they can save at the pump. Diesel makes a car less exciting (although I guess that's no longer the case, with the RS8...) and it's worse than gas for nature. So making it more expensive than gas is just crazy. :P

Diesel has superior fuel economy, so for the most part it's higher cost is offset by it's efficiency. But really, cars are not the driving force behind Diesel. Trucks, farm equipment, heavy equipment, buses, military vehicles and ships use Diesel. So realistically, the infrastructure and the retail sector relies on it more than pickup trucks and the few passenger cars that use it.

I agree with you but those "few" passenger cars that run on Diesel as you call it are 30-40% of all cars in Belgium. Maybe we're Diesel-crazy, I don't know. My dad's car runs on Diesel. ;)

I'm sure it is. Over here though, I'd say 10% or less.

I see. That's a big difference. It probably explains the higher cost of Diesel over there.

It's probably one of the major reasons why retail prices have gone up. Especially food and things like that.

I paid € 1.30 a liter today, which is about $ 6.20 a gallon. I drive about 1400 miles a month and spend something like $315 on gasoline. Life is expensive.

It's somewhere over 2 bucks over here. Sucks how gas prices are slowly creeping up just so it doesn't come as much of shock to everyone. Well, at least I rarely drive if ever. I plan on getting a motorcycle soon so I wonder how that'll go in terms of consumption.
