RF Generation Message Board

Just a question to the good folks behind this site, no insult intended, by how come it's not rfgeneration.org? It's clear that there's no profit (hooray no ads! :laugh:) but I feel a little hesitant submitting details to any .com (thanks for nothing gamespot :grrr:).
Is there any reason that I can know about? Or is it private details?

Uh, when you think of a website the most popular extension is .com

We're not a commercial website (we do this for fun), but we are all about market reach, and .org just does not have the reach that .com has.

Also, Michael Collins bought rfgeneration.com. He took his reasoning to the grave.

No problem. So long as we can continue to pay for server costs ourselves, expect no ads, but always remember that this site is in no way corporate, and in fact is run by a couple of average Joes.

Yup, we make no profit on the site.  Unless you count paying for the site, in which case we're making negative profit :)

I'd also like to mention to the topic creator that getting a .org ain't hard. I have a .org and I think it was cheaper and easier to get than a .com. So a .org really doesn't add a level of trustworthiness to a site.  ;)

Yeah, but the site should be shortened to "rfg" too then :P so you get www.rfg.rfg

Ouch, that's more than I expected. I was thinking around 20-30/month, but 90...that's not nothing :o

Maybe I'll donate. But I'm going to wait a bit first, I haven't been around here for long. First have to make sure that I really wanna stay here. (I think I do though)

With the weak dollar a contribution of €10 would already make for $16, so that's nice in case I would donate.

We're on a dedicated host because our site demands resources. So far, the dedicated box is running well.

Let's hope it stays that way the, so the costs don't go up any further.
