Title: Why not .org? Post by: dotDarkCloud (dDC) on March 04, 2008, 09:10:11 PM Just a question to the good folks behind this site, no insult intended, by how come it's not rfgeneration.org? It's clear that there's no profit (hooray no ads!) but I feel a little hesitant submitting details to any .com (thanks for nothing gamespot :grrr:).
Is there any reason that I can know about? Or is it private details? Title: Re: Why not .org? Post by: TraderJake on March 04, 2008, 10:49:27 PM Uh, when you think of a website the most popular extension is .com
We're not a commercial website (we do this for fun), but we are all about market reach, and .org just does not have the reach that .com has. Also, Michael Collins bought rfgeneration.com. He took his reasoning to the grave. Title: Re: Why not .org? Post by: dotDarkCloud (dDC) on March 06, 2008, 10:36:49 AM Okay, I see, so now worries then. I feel more comfortable knowing it's in good hands, thanks.
Title: Re: Why not .org? Post by: TraderJake on March 06, 2008, 01:18:21 PM No problem. So long as we can continue to pay for server costs ourselves, expect no ads, but always remember that this site is in no way corporate, and in fact is run by a couple of average Joes.
Title: Re: Why not .org? Post by: St0rmTK421 on March 06, 2008, 04:54:05 PM Yup, we make no profit on the site. Unless you count paying for the site, in which case we're making negative profit :)
Title: Re: Why not .org? Post by: dotDarkCloud (dDC) on March 12, 2008, 09:51:25 AM ^ Haha, well I'm sure if you guys ever had trouble, there are plenty of happy users here who would chip in!
Title: Re: Why not .org? Post by: Rajaat the Warbringer on July 14, 2008, 10:11:00 AM I'd also like to mention to the topic creator that getting a .org ain't hard. I have a .org and I think it was cheaper and easier to get than a .com. So a .org really doesn't add a level of trustworthiness to a site. ;)

Title: Re: Why not .org? Post by: TraderJake on July 16, 2008, 06:34:17 PM Why not .rfg? :P
Title: Re: Why not .org? Post by: Sirgin on July 22, 2008, 11:50:07 AM Why not .rfg? :P Yeah, but the site should be shortened to "rfg" too then :P so you get www.rfg.rfg Now that's style! :D A question (if I may): does it cost alot to keep a site like rfgeneration running? (If I'm not allowed to know that kind of info, no problem) Title: Re: Why not .org? Post by: TraderJake on July 22, 2008, 12:08:15 PM 90/month
Title: Re: Why not .org? Post by: Sirgin on July 22, 2008, 12:20:37 PM 90/month Ouch, that's more than I expected. I was thinking around 20-30/month, but 90...that's not nothing :oMaybe I'll donate. But I'm going to wait a bit first, I haven't been around here for long. First have to make sure that I really wanna stay here. (I think I do though) With the weak dollar a contribution of €10 would already make for $16, so that's nice in case I would donate. Title: Re: Why not .org? Post by: TraderJake on July 22, 2008, 01:20:43 PM We're on a dedicated host because our site demands resources. So far, the dedicated box is running well.

Let's hope it stays that way the, so the costs don't go up any further.Title: Re: Why not .org? Post by: Cobra on July 22, 2008, 11:09:27 PM Maybe I'll donate. (I think I do though) If you do, you'll regain access to the VIP room ;) Title: Re: Why not .org? Post by: TraderJake on July 22, 2008, 11:23:16 PM Yeah, that was an oops. But the result is more secure information!
