Title: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: nat on February 25, 2008, 02:29:12 PM I apologize to the mods if this is in the wrong section, feel free to move it if so.
There is a new video game-exclusive auction site that went online recently: www.gamegavel.com I want say I am in no way affiliated with the site, but since I learned about it I'm trying to promote it as much as possible. I've become fed up with eBay over the past few years, and I really like the idea behind this new site. They seem to have a better listing fee schedule than eBay. I'd really like to see these guys succeed. I've already bid on a couple items and I plan to list some Master System stuff there shortly. I suggest everyone who's had it with eBay go check 'em out and show your support. Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: shaggy on February 25, 2008, 07:06:54 PM I checked it out and there is potential. I added it as a favorite. Thanks for the link.
Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Barracuda on February 26, 2008, 09:56:36 AM Could be promising.
Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: nat on February 27, 2008, 12:40:19 AM I checked it out and there is potential. I added it as a favorite. Thanks for the link. No prob. It's under a week old as of now so I'm surprised at the number of auctions already up. I plan to list a couple SMS games tomorrow. Title: GameGavel.com: Video Gaming Auciton site Alternative to eBay! Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on February 27, 2008, 01:23:42 PM Hey folks, normally, I don't like to be "that guy"... we all know them, the ones who sign up to Advertise on a forum/website, but NAT over at PCEngineFX told me that you were a great Video Gaming Community and would like to hear about this.
My name is Jasen Hicks, and I am a video game collector. I post mostly over at Digital Press, and occasionally at PCEngineFX (since the purchase of my TG setup). A little more about me, I am a 26 year old Naval Officer by day and now a small business owner! Yikes! About a month ago, I noticed eBay was starting to get on peoples nerves, mostly those in the circles that I chat with... the gamers. I thought to myself, "Hey! I am a decent webmaster, and have some knowledge on Video Games and such... maybe I can start an alternative to eBay!" So I posted up the idea over at DigitalPress and at PCEngineFX. Some people liked the idea, and some people said "Dont do it! It's going to fail! They always do!" But after many hours of cranking away at a business plan, investing in software, learning about setting up a business in Florida, and such I decided the risk was worth it and opened GAMEGAVEL.COM. I figure that if I can help people avoid eBay and cater to the community I love to be a part of, then ill be happy (as long as I can break even at a minimum!) The original opening date was scheduled to be March 1, 2008. However, I got it to the point where I was comfortable that any bugs that arose I could fix them rather quickly and so GameGavel.com was opened on February 23, 2008 at NOON EST. Within 36 hours, I was completely awe-struck, and humbled at the same time. There were already 70+ users signed up and over 140 auctions! Why is GameGavel different than eBay, and why should you use it? GameGavel.com has the DigitalPress seal of approval, Joe loves the idea and is backing it 100% both with his word and the ability to use the Rarity Guide (integration into the GameGavel site is coming soon!) Further, all auctions feature free basic insertions! I don't believe you should be charged to list an item, then be charged at the end when you sell it! If you upgrade beyond the basic listing, the fees are modest, and the Final Value Fees are lower than ebay every time! Additionally, everyone at GameGavel is just as passionate about Video Games as you are! I am trying to cultivate a Community Feel, by incorporating your feedback at all the sites you enjoy! When a person clicks your profile to look at your reputaiton, they have instant access to your DP Feedback, Cheap Ass Gamer Feedback, and more! People instantly know that you are a good seller/buyer/trader! If you get a chance, please check it out! the URL is simple... http://www.GAMEGAVEL.com (http://www.gamegavel.com/other_items.php?owner_id=100001) Title: Re: GameGavel.com: Video Gaming Auciton site Alternative to eBay! Post by: TraderJake on February 27, 2008, 02:27:40 PM Welcome to RF Generation! I appreciate what you're trying to do (we passively advertise), but we have some rules that all members agree to when they join our site. From this agreement, we have the following:
Spam, flooding, advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are also inappropriate to this SMF forum and website. Good luck with your endeavors, but please rather than coming straight onto our site to advertise I ask that you check out our amazing databases, forums, and collection tools. Best of luck in your operations, but please, do not break our agreement in the process. Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Cobra on April 28, 2008, 04:09:57 AM Like shaggy and Barracuda said, it looks promising and has a lot of potential.
It's a real bummer though that the description entry they have gone with isn't compatible with Safari and obviously I don't plan on changing browser just for the one site. So hopefully they fix that up. The thing I like is how they are throwing contests out here there and everywhere to try and build up some momentum. Quote Game Gavel is committed to excellence and ensuring that it is the #1 choice for all video game auctions. To help prove this to our users, we are going to give away $500 to one lucky verified seller as soon as we get to 1000 verified users! Tell your freinds, family, and people on the street to join GameGavel.com! The sooner we get to 1000 verified users, the sooner you could WIN! That is the latest one, and not to mention the competition I'm really looking forward to. Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on April 29, 2008, 12:35:47 PM Thanks Nat for the mention!
I am the owner of GameGavel.com, and I want to let everyone know about it! I know I have a tough up hill battle against the machine that is eBay, but I think that their policy changes and such have left a sour taste in many gamers mouths! RFGeneration even put a plug on the front page for a while! Let me take a minute to explain a few things about GameGavel.com! 1. All of your listings are FREE. No insertion fees, no final value fees! The only thing we charge for, which is very modest, is the featured items on the front page, highlighting, bolding, and category featured items. Other than that, its FREE! 2. We allow you to link your auctions to the DP Rarity Guide, to help inform your potential buyers about everything and anything they may need to know! 3. We have multiple feedback references for you to list, including DP, eBay, Shumps, Goozex, Cheap Ass Gamer, 2D Gaming, PCEngineFX, and any others that are brought to my attention! 4. Of the smaller auciton sites, we are the only to offer a Bulk Lister for those sellers with a lot to sell! Its free and easy to use, and you can import your stuff from the eBay Turbo lister too! 5. I am a collector, and a video gamer as well. I didn't start GameGavel to get rich. I started it simply to help out those Gamers that were tired of eBay. My goal is to break even to keep the site running smooth for everyone! 6. We have amazing contests! Remember #5? I am commited to making GameGavel a FUN and EXCITING place. That being said, I run contests like no other site! The first month online we gave away a FREE BOXED NES to one person! All they needed to do to qualify was to sell 5 items on GameGavel! This month we are giving away a FREE NEW GAME ($60 value) to one lucky seller verified person! And we have a running $500 contest going to one lucky verified seller when the site reaches 1000 verified sellers! Awesome! 7. NO CREDIT CARD REQUIRED! There are many reasons to join GameGavel.com, but the best reason is to take back the community and keep it among fellow gamers! GameGavel and others wont survive unless the community takes a chance and supports us. GameGavel will ALWAYS be the #1 for features amongst the smaller sites though, guaranteed! If you find anything a feature missing at GameGavel, let me know and I will work to find the answer and solution to make it a reality! I am 100% committed to making GameGavel.com YOUR choice for video game auctions! ** For the Safari Users (My fellow Mac fanatics :) ) I am editing the software to fix this bug with Safari! ** For those who like contests, there is 2 days left for the current contest where you can win a free Game just for being a verified seller! Also, May 1 I will announce the next contest too! Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Ghost Soldier on April 29, 2008, 01:28:52 PM Nice site
Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Cobra on April 30, 2008, 03:51:52 AM RFGeneration even put a plug on the front page for a while! And it's back up there again today, this time promoting that latest competition. At the moment I'm just testing the waters and just throwing a random auction up now and then, it'll be great once the user base increases and I can't wait for the Safari bug to be ironed out, as I have a lot I plan to put up there after that ;) I also want to point out how great it is to have the sites owner actually check out gaming forums like this to spread the word, this shows the commitment right there. I want to wish you the best of luck with your site Jasen, keep up the good work :) Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on April 30, 2008, 09:34:40 AM Awesome! Thanks for the plug TraderJake! I appreciate it! If you google "gameGavel" RFGeneration is first!
Cobra, I will send you a message offline about the description area fix for safari, but its coming today (time permitting, and family permitting!) Just a heads up. The second contest at GameGavel.com is closing for eligibility tomorrow! By verifying your sellers account, you are entered for a chance to win a game of your choice for a current generation console of your choice. A $60 Value Free! You will also be automatically entered in the $500 contest as well. When we get to 1000 verified sellers at GameGavel.com I will be giving $500 to one of them! Let the Gavel Fall! Jasen Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on April 30, 2008, 09:37:05 AM As for checking the boards... it is silly to not promote the site where people live and breathe. Sites like here, and many others have allowed me to get the word out. For that I am truly appreciative. They will not be forgotten, and will have a link put up on the affiliates page at GameGavel.com. Without these types of sites, we would all be segregated from each other! The internet and forums have really created a GLOBAL community!
Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on April 30, 2008, 02:37:08 PM Cobra, as promised the Safari bug has been fixed! Just tested it out, and it works fine now!
Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Cobra on April 30, 2008, 11:50:33 PM Wow, finally getting to fully utilise the editor, I have to say it's pretty robust. I'll keep playing around with a few smaller auctions at 1st and get to grips with what I am happiest with. Thanks a million, one Karma point for you ;)
In all seriousness I can definitely see myself setting up a store on Game Gavel if user interests continues to grow, I especially like the inclusion to use Google Checkout... just a pity Google hasn't made this available to Australia as yet. Once it does though I'll be sure to use it, and that is where a big advantage lies with Game Gavel as eBay moves further and further in a plan to make PayPal the only payment option available to sellers. Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on May 01, 2008, 10:19:14 AM This month's contest, where you could win a new game of your choice, for any next generation console ($60 value) went very well! There was a last push of new users duing the last few days to get the number of verified sellers up, and there were 47 eligible users when I drew the name.
Without further ado, I am happy to announce "bangtango" as the winner of this month's contest! He won any game of his choice for any next-generation console of his choice! Everyone give him a big round of applause! With the end of this contest, I have to announce the next contest! This one will be called the 5-5-5 contest where you can be entered up to three times to win! All you have to do is complete, any or all of the following to be eligible: 1. Refer 5 new users 2. Sell 5 items 3. Buy 5 items All within the May-June 2008 timeframe! If you do one, you are entered once! If you complete 2, you are entered twice! And if you complete all three.... you guessed it! You are entered Three times to win! The next lucky winner will receive a brand new Nintendo DS! Perfect for the beach, pool, or those long summer road trips! Finally, don't forget about the $500 contest. When we have 1000 verified users at GameGavel.com I will give one of them $500! To get to that benchmark, I need all of your help though! Make sure you buy, sell, and visit often! The more traffic the better resource GameGavel.com becomes! Just a couple of new features for April: 1. Added Feedback Sections: Shumps, 2D Gaming, Goozex, and a unlabled "Other" 2. Bulk Listing Software for the folks with a lot to sell! 3. No more Final Value Fees! 4. Weekly Newsletters for Featured Auctions and those ending soon! 5. Better Safari Compatibility! Thank you for your continued support of GameGavel.com! Let the Gavel Fall! www.gamegavel.com Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: shaggy on May 01, 2008, 11:33:04 AM I've already sold things on the site and I see Cobra is selling things. Great site, Jasen. When was the decision made to have no Final Value Fee? There was initially a fee and I was wondering where my invoice was when I sold my stuff but I got nothing! Then I found out today there was no fee anymore.
Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on May 01, 2008, 11:41:12 AM The invoices are sent out when you reach $5 owed at the 30 day point. You can always look at your Account History to see any charges. The no fees came about within the past week ;) so if your auctions ended before then you may have gotten some small charges. You probably had a credit anyways, at least $2.50 so you probably still have a credit!
Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: shaggy on May 03, 2008, 11:27:45 AM Very nice. I applaud you for doing that.
Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on May 04, 2008, 12:25:38 AM You may have noticed, yesterday the Category List became much larger than before. I added a lot of new categories to help keep things more organized for future growth of GameGavel. As I was adding the categories I noticed that there were a lot of ONE HIT WONDER consoles out there! Wow! Its amazing that now-a-days only 3 compaines really make game systems!
In any case, there are some great new features coming, which you will have to wait till they launch for more details on. I have had problems with ideas being borrowed before I roll them out completely. So stay tuned! Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Cobra on May 04, 2008, 12:36:40 AM Due to Game Gavels focus on what I love most, video games you have my loyalty. The only two auction sites I'll even use are eBay and Game Gavel.
Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on May 04, 2008, 03:12:04 AM Awesome, Thanks Cobra!
It sure has been busy this weekend at GameGavel.com! We have added quite a few new features that will make everyone's experience that much better when using this FREE video game auction site! 1. Categories, Categories, Categories! Thats right, we added a lot. There are a heck of a lot of gaming systems out there. 2. Listing Designer! Make your auctions stand out, and be FUN! Add a creative theme to your auction and impress potential buyers! 3. Watchers Anyone? Now you can see exactly how many people are watching your auctions within your Members Area! See how many people are waiting to get into a last minute bidding war! 4. Weekly Auction Newsletters! Every week, GameGavel.com will be sending a newsletter out to its users to inform them of the Featured Auctions and those ending soon! This will help maximize your coverage. Stay tuned, we are adding new features all the time. Committing ourselves to excellent features, going above and beyond! Let the Gavel Fall! Jasen Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Izret101 on May 04, 2008, 01:25:44 PM I just signed up
I got a message in the top left that said: Mail Sending Failed.. I'm gonna be late for work though. Check back later. Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on May 05, 2008, 06:30:06 AM Izret, taken care of! Per our email.
For all others, I am fixing the problem. It seems to be happening due to a tweak I was making to the software. Should be resolved today! Oh, there are a lot of sweet auctions up right now! Thanks for the support! In the past week we got 20% more new auctions! Jasen Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Cobra on May 05, 2008, 07:39:28 AM I'm sure there will be plenty more auctions to follow ;)
It is good to see you become a regular on these boards and letting us know all the latest on Game Gavel. Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on May 05, 2008, 07:42:35 AM No worries! If I wasnt busy with work, my Masters Degree, running GameGavel, and being a loving husband... id probably get more time to play my games and actually talk about them with you all!
By the way, check the stores area... I created the second store! Currently, the only active store... but its technically the second. Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: iJohn on May 31, 2008, 10:58:48 PM Jut signed up! Thanks.
Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: shaggy on June 01, 2008, 12:12:26 PM Come check it out! A lot of auctions up and with new members more is sure to come!
Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Cobra on June 01, 2008, 08:57:23 PM You really can't argue with a site that lets you list your items for free :)
I'm also sure no one is happy with eBay's gag order, no allowing sellers to leave negative or even neutral comments about bad buyers that stuff them around. So like shaggy said, give it a look. Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on June 03, 2008, 12:48:36 PM Over the past few weeks I have been diligently working on a new theme for GameGavel.com. Today I finally felt it was ready to launch. I hope you all enjoy, you can see the new layout and perhaps join GameGavel here:
www.gamegavel.com (http://"http://www.gamegavel.com") Don't forget about our 5-5-5 Contest, where when you buy 5 items, sell 5 items, or even refer 5 friends to GameGavel.com between now and July 1 you can win a Brand New Nintendo DS! Cobra, and Shaggy Thanks for the plugs. I think I may do a special RF Generation Only Contest next month because you guys are so great! ;) Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Cobra on June 03, 2008, 05:59:11 PM Cobra, and Shaggy Thanks for the plugs. I think I may do a special RF Generation Only Contest next month because you guys are so great! ;) That would be so cool! Really look forward to that. I like the new look, especially like how the Game Gavel logo now blends in with the rest of the top bar, and also that the pop up about joining has now vanished ;) It looks good. Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on June 04, 2008, 02:44:58 PM Thanks Cobra! I emailed TraderJake about doing an RF Generation Exclusive Contest. Once he gives me the OK, then I will post up some details, etc.
Thanks for the continued support. I just added a Preferred Sellers Program at GameGavel for those buyers who want all the perks for one low fee. Free stores, free auction upgrades (the few that we actually charge for), etc. for $25. That is 5 Featured Auctions, or 5 months of having a store, or combinations of both, etc. See the home page for more details. jasen Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: shaggy on June 04, 2008, 07:49:30 PM You're welcome Jasen. For the 5-5-5 contest do we have to do 5 in one category to be entered or can it be a combination of 5 from any of the three categories? Like Cobra said I like the new layout and thanks for getting rid of the pop up! Now come on guys, join and buy my stuff!! :leo:
Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Crabmaster2000 on June 04, 2008, 10:24:36 PM I just joined it yesterday and the site looks great!! Love the layout and its pretty easy to navigate (and thanks for walking me through linking my paypal account, very appreciated). It'll probably be a month or two until I get to selling things but I might make a purchase or two before then.
Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on June 04, 2008, 11:21:33 PM Shaggy,
Sorry mate, its 5 in one of the categories. However, that may be easier to accomplish if I get the go-ahead from TraderJake to run the RFGeneration contest. Then you can put the referral image in your signature :) See your My Referral page in your "My Account" page for the code. Jasen Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on June 06, 2008, 02:35:46 AM Update:
Still haven't heard back from TraderJake about doing the RFGeneration Contest, but as soon as I do... you will see me post it up! Also, we landed a great advertising contract yesterday, you know... those things that keep the site free. Check it out the homepage, you may be interested in what it is... A Video Game Expo! I wish I was in the states to go! Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on June 06, 2008, 05:24:39 PM This is a thread for news, auctions and discussion of game auctions sites & online stores that exist outside of eBay or RFGen. Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: ChaseTheChuckwagon on June 07, 2008, 04:04:17 PM ChaseTheChuckwagon.com Surpasses 400 Member Milestone
Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would pass 400 Members in 11 short weeks. It happend last night and now we are well on our way to 500 members. My goal for our first year was to hit 2000 members and so far, so good. But to reach these goals, we still need the support of the classic gaming community so please, visit ChaseTheChuckwagon.com and see what it has to offer. There is always a great selection of classic and modern gaming items listed, and lots of members are listing some highly desireable items -- not just the common everyday stuff that is flooding eBay. I hope to see some new RF Generation faces poking about the Chuckwagon. So Cal Mike Owner, http://www.ChaseTheChuckwagon.com Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Crabmaster2000 on June 07, 2008, 05:30:59 PM I just signed up like 4 or 5 days ago. There really is no reason for anyone not to enter.
Hope to see this get a mention on the front page of RF Gen. This deserves some Karma points. With almost 300 members already, I look forward to seeing how many members there will be after this competition. Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on June 08, 2008, 08:43:33 AM Thanks Cobra!
I just want everyone to know the pure joy of a true gaming site... where its all video games and related items. If I am going to have to motivate you with free stuff, well why the heck not! Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Speedy_NES on June 08, 2008, 11:18:56 AM Cool, I signed up yesterday without knowing about this, nice bonus! :)
Is this cumulative with any other contests (i.e. from other sites etc)? Just curious :) Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on June 08, 2008, 03:42:02 PM If you meet the requirements of other contest, exclusives and all, you are eligible in each. Now, if you win ONE then to keep prizes going to a lot of people, you will not be eligible to win again.
:) Only 15 to go to hit 300! WooHoo! I love the enthusiasm out there, if this is proof that people want an alternative to ebay, then its proof people want free stuff! I hope its the first, and a little bit of the second! Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on June 09, 2008, 11:32:15 AM Don't be caught in the dark, and miss out on this opportunity! Help GameGavel.com get over the 300 user benchmark and help make history! Let's show everyone that FREE AUCTIONS are the way to go, and quit paying fees!
Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on June 09, 2008, 11:34:23 AM The following words seem to be infamous...
In Keeping with the latest Trends... Game Gavel is happy to announce its Preferred Seller Program, which is the fruition of an idea by one DP's own members back in January! For $25 you can have all of the upgrade fees and store fee's wiped from the face of the earth for as long as you use GameGavel.com! Here is the listing: http://www.gamegavel.com/GameGavels-Preferred-Seller-Status,name,101995,auction_id,auction_details Since GameGavel.com provides free Auctions for its users, we rely on simple gaming ads (Yes, we now have a few paid ads! No more Google Ads!) And programs like this and auction upgrade fees and store fees. Now you can cut all of those fees and ensure GameGavel.com's place in all of your digital hearts! I want to thank Cobra Blade for being the third Preferred Seller at GameGavel.com! Thank you for your support so far in all of this. We are on the verge of hitting 300 members, I can almost feel it! Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Phillyman on June 09, 2008, 02:41:52 PM I will be killing his Magazine section in a few days, I have over 600+ magazines and many of them I have already scanned....so they will be getting sold on GG.
Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on June 09, 2008, 02:45:33 PM Awesome! Make sure you download the bulklister! It will make the task A LOT easier :)
Also, in your "My Account" section under "Selling" you will find a "Generate List" tab, it will create a list that you can copy and paste right into your selling thread to help promote your auctions! Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Phillyman on June 09, 2008, 02:56:03 PM Very good, I run the website www.retromags.com and as such I believe this would be a great site to recommend to my members. I have quite a collection of magazines that the girlfriend would love to see me sell off. Getting an Ebay store is too expensive and bothersome, and I like the idea of being able to list my items over and over without being nickeled and dimed every time.
Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Cobra on June 09, 2008, 05:21:55 PM I just can't let go of my old Commodore 64 and MegaDrive mags, just too many fond memories :)
I think the one time payment is great value and a great idea for anyone who plans to sell a lot of things over a long period of time. Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Cobra on June 10, 2008, 11:33:16 PM Today, Game Gavel has done it! 300 Members! :)
Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on June 11, 2008, 11:46:42 AM Cobra, you beat me too it! But yes, he is right... we hit 300 and shortly after, we hit 301! It's a great feeling seeing all of these new registrations and people using GameGavel.com! I know eBay will be shaking come the end of the year when we hit.... say 2000 members, or more?!
Here is an update on this exclusive contest. Currently RF Generation has... 11 ... users eligible to win! If you haven't linked your profile or feedback yet, make sure you do so that you don't miss this opportunity! Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on June 16, 2008, 11:21:26 AM There was new and important change to GameGavel's Verification Process for selling items. We are going to change it up a bit, and remove the restriction to verify your account before selling. For the most part, this won’t affect many of sellers, and your account will continue to show that you are verified. This helps potential customers know that you indeed not a “bum†seller and have gone through the small process in ensuring we know you are legitimate at GameGavel!
This change mostly affects the buyers out there and their decision to purchase from a particular seller and if the verified account matters or no. So, if you have been on the fence when it comes to selling or listing some items, now you can absolutely free! Just make sure you link your other feedback to ensure people know they are dealing with good people Here are some fun facts about GameGavel right now: 412 Current Live Auctions! 2058 Auctions Listed at GameGavel since Launch! 317 USERS, Which is up 115 from 3 weeks ago! 24,000 Unique Page Views Over 7 Mins of average browsing time per person! These are my auctions and if anyone has any questions I will be happy to try and answer them I have about 200 PAL NES (cib) games so it may take awhile to list them all, I seem to only have time to list a few each day. They will all be started at 10.50 each and some notable titles I will list are Donkey Kong Jr Math, Elite, Uforia to mention a few. This collection is in wonderfull condition most look new I have been buying these over a few years from a local collector who seems to have access to a large archive of PAL NES games They have been received in large file boxes with the county name on the outside NOTE I have been recently offered more so the total number may be more. Problem is he usally calls and then I dont here from him for two or three and sometimes this happens more then once before we can meet up to make a deal. Still waiting for the box with the Mr Gimmick maybe this will be the time :) BTW I would have posted this myself but it took me awhile to figure out my password, it got mixed up with another site and I could not log in Oh I do combine shipping on multiple purchases FND Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on June 17, 2008, 12:11:11 PM Awesome! Thanks for the sticky! I hope more of you all sign up, there are a lot of Good NES games up for auction, a TON of Saturn things (Thanks cobra!) and a lot more!
Remember, only 2 weeks left to go and thats it! I haven't checked the numbers in the past few days but there are still a few more people needed to get this going! If we don't make the mark of 20, then I will have to either extend it or come up with something new! Don't miss out on this great opportunity! Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Cobra on June 18, 2008, 06:01:20 PM No worries, hope we are getting close to our target of 20 RF Gen users.

Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Cobra on June 25, 2008, 03:10:09 AM Funnily enough I never even spotted this thread until just now.
I think it is great to see people stand up against eBay such as yourself with http://www.ChaseTheChuckwagon.com and Jasen with https://www.GameGavel.com eBay's decision to force mandatory PayPal listings, and disallow any negative feedback towards bad buyers has gone too far, as while I myself use PayPal like many, I have had a run-in with them as they see themselves above the law and even change currency at their own fictitious currency rate pocketing the difference. So it is good to see the little guys standing up before eBay's evil plans. Best of luck, Cobra Title: Re: Win a free game of your choice Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on June 25, 2008, 09:04:51 AM Cobra, Thanks for posting this up here!

Congratulations on 20 RFG members and good luck to all that are eligible! It is a tricky feat, getting people to let go of their eBay regardless of how much better GG is. I should know the mentality, when I was a door to door sales person for an alternative phone company that was so much better we even had a guarantee that if you bill cost more with us than with your current company, you would receive double the difference back. And yet still, the majority of people just don't like change, despite if it is for the better. We don't focus on any one era or time period and cover everything from the 70's to the downloadable services of each new console today. And Hardware :P Thanks Jasen for holding this contest for our members! Also congrats to the winner! Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: OatBob on July 02, 2008, 12:39:57 AM Congrats to the winner, whom I marked as having referred me. He's been a good promoter for the site.
So now I'm a member I should probably try and sell off some of my doubles. I'll be gone all month so I'm going to wait to list them when I return. As always, I'll try and fix some sort of special discount for RFGen members. Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Cobra on July 02, 2008, 02:26:34 AM :D :D :D :D
RF Gen member's participation has been outstanding. Thank you to every member who took part and got us the 20 member minimum to have the competition. It isn't easy trying something new, especially when you may of become so accustomed to eBay. But I really appreciate everyone's participation. The next competition is a comp to see who can list the most items for 99c, so Game Gavel should see an insane amount of activity over the following months. Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: ChaseTheChuckwagon on July 02, 2008, 11:34:06 AM This is a great thread discussing the selling costs between CTCW & Ebay started by one of our members. I think this makes is very obvious why everyone should try the Chuckwagon. Check out how many items they are selling and I think you will be amazed.
This is proving that a new auction site, done correctly, can and will compete for Ebay's business. http://www.chasingthechuckwagon.com/upload/showthread.php?t=131 So Cal Mike Owner, http://www.ChaseTheChuckwagon.com Often Imitated but NEVER duplicated ! I mean eBay is the site with fees regardless of auction type. A normal auction on GG is 100% free. And of course you have to enter personal information, how else can you buy and sell? Title: Re: Win a free game for being an RFG member Post by: RegalSin on July 17, 2008, 10:39:11 AM Well if the majority of auctions is ebay then that means...and why should it have to be only videogames when there is other free auction websites out there.

ChaseTheChuckwagon.com is still getting the cream of the crop when it comes to listings. In addition to the NES protos listed above, we have had a new member just list another aucthentic NES Prototype Tetris Cart: http://www.chasethechuckwagon.com/item.cgi?show_item=0000004631 And to update you all on our our growth - as of this post, we are now sitting at 616 members and have signed up about another 30 this past week. ChaseTheChuckwagon.com is always pushing the envelope to create and nurture a community spirit. We were the first to launch member forums and also the first to feature a weekly podcast we call "Auction Talk". Visit our forums to see what other members are saying about their time on ChaseTheChuckwagon.com: http://www.chasingthechuckwagon.com/upload/index.php For you considering selling on something other than Ebay, let me ease your fears about listing items on a ChaseTheChuckwagon.com. In only 3 1/2 months we have seen extraordinary growth and traffic. Alexa.com ranks the Chuckwagon in the top 150,000 websites in the USA (this fluctuates daily but we have been averaging less than 200,000) and we are in the top 600,000 websites in the World. We have hosted over 4000 auctions and sold over $16,000 in items. So do like hundreds of other collectors are doing. Jumping ship at eBay and stepping aboard the Chuckwagon. Contest - Winner Announced October 1, 2008
Refer your friends, family, neighbors, acquaintances, and random people on the street to Game Gavel and earn CASH! No Gift Cards, No secrets, No games... cash! Here's how this one will work: Starting July 30 we have 384 users on Game Gavel! As this number grows, I will ad $.25 to a jar for every ONE person that joins the site. On October 1, 2008 I will determine how many new people have joined and figure out how much the prize will be. One out of all of the people registered (vets and rookies) at Game Gavel will be pulled out of the digital hat (the bucket as previously seen in Game Gavel videos may be too small) and I will send them the jar of coins (not actually a jar of coins, maybe a couple of bills instead to save on shipping). Minimum prize is $10, Maximum prize.... it's up to you! I felt we are approaching a momentus occasion on ChaseTheChuckwagon.com. When we launched only a little over 4 months ago, our idea was met with more than a little skepticism. But as time has gone by, I think ChaseTheChuckwagon.com is filling a nice little niche within the auction world. Here are some interesting tidbits of information and statistics since we launched:
We have risen into the top 120,000 Websites in the USA and around 550,000 worldwide. I know these are still big #'s but considering there are over 10 Millions website worldwide, in four short months the Chuckwagon is doing amazingly well. In addition to the 670+ members we are seeing tons of traffic each and every day which means people are bookmarking us and will register when they see something they want. If you have yet to join, what are you waiting for? ChaseTheChuckwagon.com is less expensive to sell on, has a great variety of classic and modern gaming items getting listed each and every day, and will continue to grow for ever. It's not going anywhere. It's all about choices and now gamers everywhere have a legitimate choice for gaming auctions. Climb on board the fastest growing internet auction site dedicated to gamers. Maybe a good ebay alternative , would save a lot of money for sure! what do you think? I doesn't bother me that you come and advertise for your site here, but atleast be truthfull about it.You didn't "spot" that site. Heck, you've mentioned the link 3 times in the last 8 posts you made, one of which goes back more than a year. It's no problem with you being affiliated with a commercial website, just don't try to make it seem like you're a random person who "spotted" the site. ;) Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: logical123 on December 18, 2008, 05:39:12 PM I'm sorry, but I see this thread as blatant breaking of the rules. Dragon Warrior Jasen and ChaseTheChuckwagon have only posted in this thread, and have never submitted anything to the site. They have used RFGeneration, a completely nonprofit, nonaffiliated site, to ADVERTISE. This is wrong, whichever way you look at it. And hell, a mod locked Sega2099's silly post about his silly site, yet they allow this?

And hell, a mod locked Sega2099's silly post about his silly site, yet they allow this? It's easy to make such assumptions when you don't have all the facts. The truth is, the two latest incidents mentioned are completely different in nature and everyone who has used this thread to advertise have been PMed in private because such discussion about our site policy and individual interpretation don't belong in the public forums. Members use this thread for the latest news of these websites and everyone who posts here has an understanding with the moderators and administration that their game related services will remain contained here for the fairness of everyone in the community who sells items in this forum. Promoting a rival forum doesn't help RFGen any, but game services that may potentially offer alternatives to get games into their hands can, as long as member sales aren't negatively affected by it. This way we protect the members from being undersold / bullied while promoting a bit of healthy competition and resources for gamers to look into. Title: Re: External Auction Site Discussion Thread Post by: Dragon Warrior Jasen on February 15, 2009, 05:07:12 PM I do not want to rub anyone the wrong way, and I must apologize if I have done so. I cleared my original post with the site admins before posting and have prominently linked RF Generation on GameGavel.com for their help. So far, a good number of people from this site have participated at GameGavel.com and GameGavel held a contest solely for RF Generation to participate in, which resulted in a free PS3 game given to Widar. In the spirit of celebrating and continuing to promote good will for GameGavel, I'd like to let everyone know about the newest contest:
Happy Birthday GameGavel.com! On February 23, 2009 GameGavel.com turns 1! To celebrate we are kicking off another great contest season. In order to promote the website and achieve our goal of 3000+ users by the end of the year we are giving away a free XBox or PS2 game this go around. Join GameGavel.com today or refer one friend to the site using the special link within the Auction Control Panel to be eligible. On March 15, 2009 one lucky new registrant or referrer will be chosen to receive their choice between a random XBox or PS2 game! The winner will be notified via eMail and will have 5 days to reply, or another winner will be chosen. Best of luck getting over the 3,000 mark. |
