I want say I am in no way affiliated with the site, but since I learned about it I'm trying to promote it as much as possible. I've become fed up with eBay over the past few years, and I really like the idea behind this new site. They seem to have a better listing fee schedule than eBay. I'd really like to see these guys succeed.

I've already bid on a couple items and I plan to list some Master System stuff there shortly.

I suggest everyone who's had it with eBay go check 'em out and show your support.

Hey folks, normally, I don't like to be "that guy"... we all know them, the ones who sign up to Advertise on a forum/website, but NAT over at PCEngineFX told me that you were a great Video Gaming Community and would like to hear about this.

My name is Jasen Hicks, and I am a video game collector. I post mostly over at Digital Press, and occasionally at PCEngineFX (since the purchase of my TG setup). A little more about me, I am a 26 year old Naval Officer by day and now a small business owner! Yikes!

About a month ago, I noticed eBay was starting to get on peoples nerves, mostly those in the circles that I chat with... the gamers. I thought to myself, "Hey! I am a decent webmaster, and have some knowledge on Video Games and such... maybe I can start an alternative to eBay!" So I posted up the idea over at DigitalPress and at PCEngineFX. Some people liked the idea, and some people said "Dont do it! It's going to fail! They always do!" But after many hours of cranking away at a business plan, investing in software, learning about setting up a business in Florida, and such I decided the risk was worth it and opened GAMEGAVEL.COM. I figure that if I can help people avoid eBay and cater to the community I love to be a part of, then ill be happy (as long as I can break even at a minimum!)

The original opening date was scheduled to be March 1, 2008. However, I got it to the point where I was comfortable that any bugs that arose I could fix them rather quickly and so GameGavel.com was opened on February 23, 2008 at NOON EST. Within 36 hours, I was completely awe-struck, and humbled at the same time. There were already 70+ users signed up and over 140 auctions!

Why is GameGavel different than eBay, and why should you use it? GameGavel.com has the DigitalPress seal of approval, Joe loves the idea and is backing  it 100% both with his word and the ability to use the Rarity Guide (integration into the GameGavel site is coming soon!) Further, all auctions feature free basic insertions! I don't believe you should be charged to list an item, then be charged at the end when you sell it! If you upgrade beyond the basic listing, the fees are modest, and the Final Value Fees are lower than ebay every time! Additionally, everyone at GameGavel is just as passionate about Video Games as you are! I am trying to cultivate a Community Feel, by incorporating your feedback at all the sites you enjoy! When a person clicks your profile to look at your reputaiton, they have instant access to your DP Feedback, Cheap Ass Gamer Feedback, and more! People instantly know that you are a good seller/buyer/trader!

Like shaggy and Barracuda said, it looks promising and has a lot of potential.
It's a real bummer though that the description entry they have gone with isn't compatible with Safari and obviously I don't plan on changing browser just for the one site. So hopefully they fix that up.
The thing I like is how they are throwing contests out here there and everywhere to try and build up some momentum.

As for checking the boards... it is silly to not promote the site where people live and breathe. Sites like here, and many others  have allowed me to get the word out. For that I am truly appreciative. They will not be forgotten, and will have a link put up on the affiliates page at GameGavel.com. Without these types of sites, we would all be segregated from each other! The internet and forums have really created a GLOBAL community!

Cobra, as promised the Safari bug has been fixed! Just tested it out, and it works fine now!

Wow, finally getting to fully utilise the editor, I have to say it's pretty robust. I'll keep playing around with a few smaller auctions at 1st and get to grips with what I am happiest with. Thanks a million, one Karma point for you ;)

In all seriousness I can definitely see myself setting up a store on Game Gavel if user interests continues to grow, I especially like the inclusion to use Google Checkout... just a pity Google hasn't made this available to Australia as yet. Once it does though I'll be sure to use it, and that is where a big advantage lies with Game Gavel as eBay moves further and further in a plan to make PayPal the only payment option available to sellers.

This month's contest, where you could win a new game of your choice, for any next generation console ($60 value) went very well! There was a last push of new users duing the last few days to get the number of verified sellers up, and there were 47 eligible users when I drew the name.

I've already sold things on the site and I see Cobra is selling things.  Great site, Jasen.  When was the decision made to have no Final Value Fee? There was initially a fee and I was wondering where my invoice was when I sold my stuff but I got nothing!  Then I found out today there was no fee anymore.

The invoices are sent out when you reach $5 owed at the 30 day point. You can always look at your Account History to see any charges. The no fees came about within the past week ;) so if your auctions ended before then you may have gotten some small charges. You probably had a credit anyways, at least $2.50 so you probably still have a credit!

Very nice.  I applaud you for doing that.

You may have noticed, yesterday the Category List became much larger than before. I added a lot of new categories to help keep things more organized for future growth of GameGavel. As I was adding the categories I noticed that there were a lot of ONE HIT WONDER consoles out there! Wow! Its amazing that now-a-days only 3 compaines really make game systems!

In any case, there are some great new features coming, which you will have to wait till they launch for more details on. I have had problems with ideas being borrowed before I roll them out completely. So stay tuned!

I'm also sure no one is happy with eBay's gag order, no allowing sellers to leave negative or even neutral comments about bad buyers that stuff them around.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would pass 400 Members in 11 short weeks.  It happend last night and now we are well on our way to 500 members.

Very good, I run the website www.retromags.com and as such I believe this would be a great site to recommend to my members. I have quite a collection of magazines that the girlfriend would love to see me sell off. Getting an Ebay store is too expensive and bothersome, and I like the idea of being able to list my items over and over without being nickeled and dimed every time.

I just can't let go of my old Commodore 64 and MegaDrive mags, just too many fond memories :)

I think the one time payment is great value and a great idea for anyone who plans to sell a lot of things over a long period of time.

Cool, this thread has become a sticky. It is a shame some of the older members don't come around anymore so will miss out on seeing this though.

There was new and important change to GameGavel's Verification Process for selling items. We are going to change it up a bit, and remove the restriction to verify your account before selling. For the most part, this won’t affect many of sellers, and your account will continue to show that you are verified. This helps potential customers know that you indeed not a “bum” seller and have gone through the small process in ensuring we know you are legitimate at GameGavel!

This change mostly affects the buyers out there and their decision to purchase from a particular seller and if the verified account matters or no. So, if you have been on the fence when it comes to selling or listing some items, now you can absolutely free! Just make sure you link your other feedback to ensure people know they are dealing with good people

  These are my auctions and if anyone has any questions I will be happy
to try and answer them

  I have about 200 PAL NES (cib) games so it may take awhile to list them all,
I seem to only have time to list a few each day. They will all be started at 10.50
each and some notable titles I will list are Donkey Kong Jr Math, Elite, Uforia to
mention a few.

  This collection is in wonderfull condition most look new I have been buying
these over a few years from a local collector who seems to have access to
a large archive of PAL NES games They have been received in large file boxes
with the county name on the outside NOTE I have been recently offered more
so the total number may be more. Problem is he usally calls and then I dont
here from him for two or three and sometimes this happens more then once
before we can meet up to make a deal. Still waiting for the box with the
Mr Gimmick maybe this will be the time :)

  BTW I would have posted this myself but it took me awhile to figure
out my password, it got mixed up with another site and I could not

eBay's decision to force mandatory PayPal listings, and disallow any negative feedback towards bad buyers has gone too far, as while I myself use PayPal like many, I have had a run-in with them as they see themselves above the law and even change currency at their own fictitious currency rate pocketing the difference.

So it is good to see the little guys standing up before eBay's evil plans.

It is a tricky feat, getting people to let go of their eBay regardless of how much better GG is.
I should know the mentality, when I was a door to door sales person for an alternative phone company that was so much better we even had a guarantee that if you bill cost more with us than with your current company, you would receive double the difference back.

No answer still from the guy and my responces got magically erased. I mean come on VGauctions will not work. The problem is that

1. There is a fee.

2. We have to enter private info.

3. ebay is much faster and full of customers from people buying things just to break them up and shoot them into space.

4.  VG_auctions failed before and it is going to fail again. Also it is kida early to be charging and giving 10 bucks in spending money. THEY SHOULD ANNOUNCE WE WILL BE CLOSING UNTIL  BUT.......( I am not going to say it )

IT has to be a regular auction system for al types of items.

I have my own idea for a auction system but I need the know how.

You should double check that post.
I mean eBay is the site with fees regardless of auction type. A normal auction on GG is 100% free.
And of course you have to enter personal information, how else can you buy and sell?

Well if the majority of auctions is ebay then that means...and why should it have to be only videogames when there is other free auction websites out there.

"Believe me when I say that this prototype is a complete mystery. No programmer, no model number, and no company. We don't even know the name of the game. The only we have as to the identity of this prototype is the name Universal, which is silk screened onto the EPROM board. Unfortunately this just raises more questions than it answers. Universal was an arcade game manufacturer, and licensed all its games to Coleco. But why would Universal suddenly start programming their own original games for the 2600?"

This morning I logged in to check www.GameGavel.com and I was pleasantly surprised by a bunch of new Turbo Grafx stuff posted for sale! It's not just regular loose HuCards or loose CD's.... I am talking about COMPLETE games with spine cards and everything! Pretty good stuff!

You didn't "spot" that site. Heck, you've mentioned the link 3 times in the last 8 posts you made, one of which goes back more than a year. It's no problem with you being affiliated with a commercial website, just don't try to make it seem like you're a random person who "spotted" the site. ;)

I'm sorry, but I see this thread as blatant breaking of the rules. Dragon Warrior Jasen and ChaseTheChuckwagon have only posted in this thread, and have never submitted anything to the site. They have used RFGeneration, a completely nonprofit, nonaffiliated site, to ADVERTISE. This is wrong, whichever way you look at it. And hell, a mod locked Sega2099's silly post about his silly site, yet they allow this?

It's easy to make such assumptions when you don't have all the facts. The truth is, the two latest incidents mentioned are completely different in nature and everyone who has used this thread to advertise have been PMed in private because such discussion about our site policy and individual interpretation don't belong in the public forums.

Members use this thread for the latest news of these websites and everyone who posts here has an understanding with the moderators and administration that their game related services will remain contained here for the fairness of everyone in the community who sells items in this forum. Promoting a rival forum doesn't help RFGen any, but game services that may potentially offer alternatives to get games into their hands can, as long as member sales aren't negatively affected by it.

This way we protect the members from being undersold / bullied while promoting a bit of healthy competition and resources for gamers to look into.

I do not want to rub anyone the wrong way, and I must apologize if I have done so. I cleared my original post with the site admins before posting and have prominently linked RF Generation on GameGavel.com for their help. So far, a good number of people from this site have participated at GameGavel.com and GameGavel held a contest solely for RF Generation to participate in, which resulted in a free PS3 game given to Widar. In the spirit of celebrating and continuing to promote good will for GameGavel, I'd like to let everyone know about the newest contest:
