Title: Stitched Panoramic Photos Post by: Lord Nepenthean on October 19, 2004, 01:24:36 PM This is a stitched panoramic photo of my backyard. Originally it was eight separate photos, which I stitched together. Each was 5.0 megapixels, so the original file that I have is a little over 9 MB. This one is only 1.5 MB (4000 x 1048 pixels), but that's a warning to dial-up users. Also keep in mind that this is only the second stitched panoramic photo I have ever done, so that's why you can tell some of the exposures were slightly different. I also should have taken one more picture where the garage is in the left third of the picture. Had I taken another, the break you see there wouldn't have happened. I just need a little more practice. The other two seams are because I was lazy and left the camera on auto-exposure, rather than setting it manually. I just wanted to get something done quickly to test PhotoShop's stitching abilities.
EDIT: I've included a small version so it actually displays in this thread. If you click the link or the picture, you can see the larger (but still greatly reduced) image. http://www.rfgeneration.com/staff/2004-10-19_100_1812-100_1821___4000.jpg (http://www.rfgeneration.com/staff/2004-10-19_100_1812-100_1821___700.jpg) (http://www.rfgeneration.com/staff/2004-10-19_100_1812-100_1821___4000.jpg) Title: Re: Random Photo Thread Post by: Izret101 on October 19, 2004, 02:26:26 PM Wow thats reallynice. I could only 3 spots where the images where slighly off on the zoomed in picture when i made that one bigger. If you could spare it i would recommend checking out the big one it is really a nice shot.
Title: Re: Random Photo Thread Post by: Arrrhalomynn on October 19, 2004, 02:31:04 PM That's pretty awesome. It must be neat to live in such a spacious country.
Title: Re: Random Photo Thread Post by: Hydrobond on October 19, 2004, 03:39:24 PM Its ok. But I live 15 minutes from the nearest interstate. And it takes an hour to cut the grass, which sucks.
Title: Re: Random Photo Thread Post by: Arrrhalomynn on October 19, 2004, 04:51:37 PM Get yourself some cows.

Im counting this as a photo, even though it is a series of multiple photographs and digital approximations. http://micro.magnet.fsu.edu/primer/java/scienceopticsu/powersof10/ Its pretty cool.  It goes from 10^23 meters to 10^-16 meters, from looking at the milky way, to our solar system, to what I think is Tallahassee, FL to a tree and the cells and atoms contained in that tree.  Check it out. Title: Re: Random Photo Thread Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on October 19, 2004, 06:37:20 PM an hour? thats all? I'm in a city and it takes my friend an hour and a half.
Title: Re: Random Photo Thread Post by: Lord Nepenthean on October 19, 2004, 06:50:07 PM It takes three or more hours to cut our lawn, and half (or more) of our property is wooded.
Title: Re: Random Photo Thread Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on October 19, 2004, 07:00:18 PM yeah! an hour. Tsk Tsk Tsk.
Title: Re: Random Photo Thread Post by: Lord Nepenthean on October 19, 2004, 07:15:08 PM And that three hours is with a 48 inch lawnmower. With a standard 21 inch (or even a tractor because of the hills and trees), I think you could cut for a month and not finish.
Title: Re: Random Photo Thread Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on October 19, 2004, 07:37:51 PM Man I just feel plain sorry for you now.
Title: Re: Random Photo Thread Post by: Lord Nepenthean on October 19, 2004, 07:43:13 PM Well, I get paid to do it. So don't feel too bad.
Title: Re: Random Photo Thread Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on October 19, 2004, 07:49:02 PM Lucky bastard, we've got slave labor in Sharonville.
Title: Re: Random Photo Thread Post by: Hydrobond on October 19, 2004, 08:25:29 PM Thats an hour with a 60" mower, at about 7.5MPH.
And, in sharonville you live 17 miles from downtown cincinnati, and i live 8 miles from downtown cincinnati. Although I dont quite know what you were refering to when you mentioned you were in a city. Title: Re: Random Photo Thread Post by: den68 on October 20, 2004, 12:10:29 PM that's quite a spread Nep. I'm hoping to be able to get some property in a couple years. Still got a few bills to pay off before I can justify moving. I also want to save enough to get what I want. Right now I live in a blue collar subdivision, nothing too fancy or spacious.
Title: Re: Random Photo Thread Post by: Lord Nepenthean on October 20, 2004, 02:53:45 PM Thanks.
I gave this panoramic stitching thing another shot today. This is a view from the parking garage where I go to school. This was created using fourteen photos. The final product is about 17 MB on my PC, so keep that in mind when viewing the quality of this 1.3 MB file.... the one you're seeing is cut down over 90% in terms of overall quality. At any rate, I think I did a lot better job on this one, at least with getting the lines to go bye bye. The composition may not be all that hot, but I dare you to find a line where I connected the pictures. I think now that I know how to do this better, I might try to re-stitch the one I did above. Anyway, take a look: http://www.rfgeneration.com/staff/2004-10-20_100_1831-100_1844___5000.jpg (http://www.rfgeneration.com/staff/2004-10-20_100_1831-100_1844___700.jpg) (http://www.rfgeneration.com/staff/2004-10-20_100_1831-100_1844___5000.jpg) Title: Re: Stitched Panoramic Photos Post by: Izret101 on October 20, 2004, 02:59:20 PM The landscape looks really nice out ther. At least from the piocs you have put up so far.
Off topic why does this topic have fewer views than it does replies? Title: Re: Stitched Panoramic Photos Post by: Lord Nepenthean on October 20, 2004, 03:04:12 PM Well, I kind of hijacked the random photo thread, so I just decided to move this and its replies into its own thread. Since it's a new thread, the views these messages got in the random photo thread stay in that thread. This one has its own counter.
EDIT: And another.... http://www.rfgeneration.com/staff/2004-10-20_100_1845-100_1848___3000.jpg (http://www.rfgeneration.com/staff/2004-10-20_100_1845-100_1848___700.jpg) (http://www.rfgeneration.com/staff/2004-10-20_100_1845-100_1848___3000.jpg) Title: Re: Stitched Panoramic Photos Post by: Lord Nepenthean on February 28, 2005, 08:06:40 PM Title: Re: Stitched Panoramic Photos Post by: Hydrobond on March 01, 2005, 07:01:13 AM If the weather is nice over spring break we should make a trip up to the top of the Carew and try one of these.  And if you have a decent zoom, Mt Echo and Mt Adams.  Plus, I'd be interested in learning how you stitch these.
And have you ever tried a two dimensional stitch? I don't think it would be too much harder then the one dimensional ones you have done here, but then again I dont know. Title: Re: Stitched Panoramic Photos Post by: Tynstar on March 01, 2005, 07:19:43 AM Those are some neat pics Mike. Make some more!
Title: Re: Stitched Panoramic Photos Post by: sinning.dragon on March 01, 2005, 01:02:41 PM Beautiful!
I think my favorite part about the backyard pic is the inflated pool mattress sitting under a pile of leaves. ^_^ Title: Re: Stitched Panoramic Photos Post by: Lord Nepenthean on March 02, 2005, 10:39:09 AM Quote If the weather is nice over spring break we should make a trip up to the top of the Carew and try one of these. I don't think it would be too much harder then the one dimensional ones you have done here, but then again I dont know. I'm not really sure what you mean by this to be honest... Here's a desktop wallpaper I made out of a few I stitched together. This was taken on the road we took to get to the cave I showed pictures of a while back. Obviously the original was a lot larger., and didn't have the grey bars. Click the link to get it at full size. Again, this image is 16 MB and very large on my computer, but a LOT smaller here... and because this version was made as a desktop wallpaper. That little speck on the left is somebody ice fishing.

It was dusk, so lighting wasn't too great, but oh well. This was four or five photos, I can't remember exactly. As with the others, resized to be a LOT smaller than it was originally, and the grey was added to make a desktop background.

The flood would have been so sweet from Mt. Echo Park. Also, did you ever get a chance to see the flood from 275 at the Indiana-Kentucky border? It was about 2-2.5 miles wide at that point because ot the huge floodplain. The water was only about 5 feet from covering the expressway deck until you got the bridge. It was quite a sight. Maybe this will help explain what I was talking about. 0=1 picture What you have been doing is stitching like this 00000 What I was asking about is if you had ever stitched something like this: 000000 000000 Title: Re: Stitched Panoramic Photos Post by: Lord Nepenthean on March 02, 2005, 11:18:39 AM Oh yeah I've done one or two series like that. I wanted to have really high-res images of my grandma's house because who knows how long it will be there.... and because I wanted to fit the whole thing in at a certain angle but my lens wasn't wide enough.... So I took a few two-row series of the house. They were only one by two, two by two, and three by two, but you could make them much larger if you wanted. It's possible to do a full spherical image if you really want to, though that would take quite a bit of time to stitch. I have been wanting to do that for a while though. I'm sure I will eventually.
Title: Re: Stitched Panoramic Photos Post by: Hydrobond on March 02, 2005, 11:56:48 AM Hell, just 360 1 dimension would take a while to stitch.
You should do one of those quicktimeVR things. That is, if you have a week or so to figure out how. ;-) Title: Re: Stitched Panoramic Photos Post by: Lord Nepenthean on March 02, 2005, 12:15:52 PM I've done a few 360 degree images, but never converted to Quicktime VR. I think I have a program that will create them, but the trial expired and now it is demanding I pay.... which I will, just not right now.
Title: Re: Stitched Panoramic Photos Post by: Hydrobond on March 02, 2005, 02:09:09 PM sounds like its time for a reformat ;-)
Title: Re: Stitched Panoramic Photos Post by: Lord Nepenthean on March 02, 2005, 03:05:30 PM Yeah I might do that actually, especially since I installed my DVD burner on this PC. Backups would be easy.
