Title: Collecting goals for 2008
Post by: den68 on December 18, 2007, 10:58:26 AM
Well the end of 2007 is fairly near. I thinks it's about time we start talking about our plans for 2008.

You guys know the drill. Let's hear those goals.

My goals or resolutions are:

To top 2000 games, and accessories.
To add-on to the house a room soley for the games.
To learn how to play guitar.

I want to break 1000 games in 2008. Id also like to need no more than about 50 nes games for a complete collection.

I'd like to break 2,000 games, but the chances are not very good for that.
I also really want to set up a booth at the local flea market for a couple weekends. I've said it before, but I never actually do it. But, I'm becoming overwhelmed with extra games and systems, so it's becoming necessary.

Forgot that I also need to find a Sega Master System.

Post by: BadEnoughDude on December 18, 2007, 06:07:09 PM
I don't think I'm necessarily looking to add a huge quantity of games to my collection, more-so looking to clean up the incomplete games that I already have (oh how you elude me, Contra Force manual) while adding a few more of the 'staple' games that I am missing.

My ultimate goal of 2008 will be to track down a complete NES Deluxe set.

Not too much I'm planning to add. Some more Working Designs games hopefully. As much on my wishlist as I can find. And if I do buy any systems any systems I might look into some of the Sega systems I don't have.

To pick up most if not all of the PS1 Long Box games.
To top 100 PS1 games.
To buy a Dreamcast

Title: Re: Collecting goals for 2008
Post by: cyberfluxor on December 18, 2007, 08:46:14 PM
Systems:
Buy two original Playstation systems for link play.
Purchase a 3DO or Turbo Duo.
Find a good Xbox, prefer CIB.

Games:
Import a dozen new Saturn games.
Add at least another 15 CIB Atari 5200 games.
Complete a few dozen more Genesis, Nintendo, Super Nintendo and 2600 games.
Purchase some new duplicate PC games for my laptop to play over LAN with the desktop.

Of course I'm always happy to find anything in the wild so my collection will expand either way but those are my main concentrations.

My goal will be to surpass 400 NES accessories.  In the previous two years I surpassed my goals of 200 and 300, respectively, months before the end of the year, so I was tempted to set this year's goal a little higher...but in all honesty, I think it's going to be very hard for me to find enough accessories that I still need to reach 400 alone.

As for games, I'd like to surpass 700 NES games.

Post by: s1lence on December 20, 2007, 08:59:13 AM
Well I have a couple but my obsession with the 360 may effect them.

I want to finish my NES and SMS collections as well as my DC set. I'm so close on all of them but my 360 is where my money goes.

I would also like to get over 200 retail 360 titles as well, which I see happening for sure.

Title: Re: Collecting goals for 2008
Post by: Funk_Buddy on December 20, 2007, 09:56:53 AM
I'd like to finish my DC and Saturn collection that I've been near finished with for two years. I'd also like to clean out all my extra stuff to make some room. The first two goals had been interupted by deals on other games and other areas of interest that cost more money.

Just complete my WTBs for the PSX and Genesis (I already getting the Saturn games I need).

Maybe get a new TV because my current CRT is lame with gaussing problems.

Title: Re: Collecting goals for 2008
Post by: Sauza12 on December 28, 2007, 02:41:07 PM
This year was kind of a disappointment for me as far as collecting goes.  I probably didn't even add 100 games to my collection.  I blame it all on my new found addiction of arcade games.  Anyways, here are my goals for 2008:

Get an XBox 360 ( a carry over from 2007) Finally got one on 4/5!!!
Get a Neo Geo
Finish my 32x collection (Yeah, this is never gonna happen.  I think this is year three of this goal)
Get 2 more arcade machines, one of which should be a cocktail game and a pinball machine.
Finish my game room (as in put in drywall, carpeting, and a new drop ceiling among other things)

All are very obtainable things, but each will require a lot of money.  I'm also going to try to ramp my collecting back up to where it was during 2006.  Buying a house really made me conscious of how much disposeable income I had.

My main goal right now is to get another job so I can afford games again! I think I'm going to keep things modest this year. I should be able to pass 600 games. Hopefully I will be able to add a new system to my collection (hopefully 3do or Sega CD!). I would also like to replace my NGPC and beef up my Genesis collection. Right now I am keeping things simple because I am kinda broke right now.

Yeah, see, I'd really like to be able to find one cheaper than that. I have watched a few on eBay end around $100 in the past few months. That will most likely be my target price.

My ultimate goal of 2008 will be to track down a complete NES Deluxe set.
Actually, finding a complete Deluxe Set isn't too terribly hard. It's finding one for less than $300-400 that's hard. Holy crap, man. Holy crap. That's why I'll be buying an Action Set to replace my NES. :P

Anyway, my goals for 2008... hmm...
- Re-start my NES collection
- Clear up my gaming space (my gaming area is in my bedroom, which is around 8'x10'... and one whole wall is unusable. I have to get my bed, bookshelves, desk + computer, AND a 27" CRT + gaming stuff into this space. Not. Easy.)
- Get a job (no employers are calling back :/)
- Hit 500 games by January 1, 2009

whoooo

complete Pico (not including Storyware Sampler)
complete HyperScan (game discs not Trading Cards)
complete US Mortal Kombat home console releases

- Get Panorama Cotton, Gleylancer and Eliminate Down for the Mega Drive.
- Get all the Mega Man games I still don't have for the NES.

All I really want to get at the moment is a NES Advantage, because they just look so damn cool and i have heard there one of the best joysticks ever made. The problem for me is that there so freaking hard to come by, they are so hard to find on ebay Australia, which is really unfare compared to the US and UK since there is all ways about 10 to 15 selling all the time! :(
I guess if i really want one then i should just get one from over seas.
I wouldn't mind getting a ROB also.

So far in 08, I've done exactly the opposite of what I wanted to do. I really wanted to focus on completing the NES, SNES and Genesis games I have that need to be completed. Instead, I've really been buying a lot (well, a lot for me) of PS2 games. I only have 20 or so games left on my wantlist. So I guess my revised goal for 2008 is to get the rest of those games. Another one would be to pass 200 NES games. That seems fairly attainable, too.

Title: Re: Collecting goals for 2008
Post by: Fuyukaze on May 01, 2008, 03:54:17 PM
For this year, I'd like to keep it simple.

1.every atlus game released for the super famicom
2.every shin megami game released for import systems i can play (and a few i cant)
3.over 300 imports (think i'll have passed that by the end of the month)
4.get every domestic atlus game released this year.
5.get the new nobunaga game released for the ps2.
6.get the last remaining romance of the three kingdoms games i'm missing.  down to the last 2.

Of the goals, I think it's time I either acomplish some, or just outright not do some.

1.Got all but one of the RPGs and from what I can tell, that one will be difficult.  Thankfully I've got all the megaten ones.
2.After pricing many of the PS1 stuff, I doubt I'll ever be able to get them all.  Just too many that are expensive as hell.
3.I actualy did this one, not hard as it was just a numbers target.
4.Atlus is making it difficult now, I cant even keep up with their DS releases let alone everything else.
5.Still expensive, still easy to find, and still not spending 40 on it.
6.This should have been easy.  All I need is RotK 3 for the Genesis and RotK 6 for the PS1.  Should be easy but so far isnt.

I'm pretty sure I surpassed 700 NES games, although when I set that goal I think I meant 700 NTSC games excluding variants cuz I'm pretty sure I already had more than 700 NES games incl variants etc at the time of that post.  I'm actually in the process of porting my RFGen collection list to excel right now to add all the bootleg, homebrew, etc releases to get a better idea of how many games I have.  It's been a long time since I've done a thorough check of what I have in my collection.

As for accessories, I should be pretty close to 400 now as well.  I probably should've set the goal a bit higher :)

Small goals are:

Get Mario 2 & 3 for the NES - DONE!!
Get all the MegaMan Games for the NES
Get all Sonic games released on the NTSC Genny including variants CIB (I'm about two thirds done)

Getting uber close, and the year is still young! ;D

wow, late start.  but im pretty sure i have a chance of reaching my goal.  I want 600 games across my family (475-500 for myself alone)  We currently have 515, 422 of them are mine.  I would also like to have a few of the better Atari games.  All i have of notoriety (That i think are really good) are asteroids, pitfall II, video pinball, space invaders, haunted house, and combat.

I also plan to get my dad's Apple IIe out of my his parents's house, and his Atari 2600 out of my mom's parents's house.

Finally, i am hoping i could get my uncle's SNES off his hands, as he never uses it -_-

My goals for 2008 (or what's left of it anyway) are:

1. Buying some fun games, new or old, doesn't matter....they'll be most likely old (& used) because I dislike how games are getting more and more expensive (like €70 for a new PS3 game) with each generation. Or so it seems...

2. Getting a N64, Sega Dreamcast, Gamecube and maybe Xbox on eBay. To me, it doesn't matter whether they are boxed or not, so this shouldn't be too hard. Already got an Atari 2600, NES, SNES, Master System and Mega Drive, so I'm about halfway in the consoles I want.

My goals are as follows:

bring my collection to 200 games
sell 0 games
Beat 30 games

Given what will be presumably smaller budget than usual I can't go higher than that. Hopefully I will be able to beat these goals easily. I have around 165 games right now so that means buy 35 games in just over 4 months without breaking the bank. I have beaten 17 games so far this year so I think trying to beat 13 more in 4 months while going to school 20 hours a week and working 16 hours a week is a fair goal. Selling 0 games is basically me keeping my impulses in line. For about 8 years of my gaming life I had traded 0 games in but once I started it was like a drug. "hey I want that new game I see, well let's just sell some of these games to pay for it" was basically my thinking for the last 8 years.

Never sell your old games or systems, because you'll regret doing so in the end and spend some more money on buying them back.

Well, then make sure that that goal gets maintained. :) Otherwise your collection will only shrink, because it (probably) takes more than one game to sell, to get a new one.

Besides, not buying new games is a good thing. 6 months later, you'll be able to find that same game (probably still new, too) for half the money it was when it was brand-new. Think of all the money you'll save by waiting for the price to drop, it's a win-win situation.

It is a win-win and really I have no reason to buy new games as  I have 90 games I own that are still unbeaten. it does take a lot of games to get a new game. Lats time I traded in it took 6 PS3 games and 2 PS2 games to buy 3 N64 games and Mass Effect for PC.

I want to complete my Star Fox, F-Zero, and Metroid series complete in box by the end of this year.  So far I need:

Star Fox
-Star Fox 64 complete

F-Zero
-F-Zero Box and Manual
-F-Zero Maximum Velocity
-F-Zero X Box and Manual

Metroid
-Metroid Complete
-Metroid II Box and Manual
-Super Metroid Complete
-Metroid Prime 3 Complete

I want just the US releases and I don't really want to get both versions of them (like the rumble pak and the Player's Choice versions of Star Fox)

Edit: Forgot F-Zero X Box and Manual :(

That shouldn't be too hard, especially if you use e(vil)bay. :)

Good luck! You are actually quite far, are you not?

Yup F-Zero and Star Fox series should be done quite soon. :)

I'm probably gonna get a sealed copy of F-Zero on ebay (they're pretty common and cheap), and I'm bidding on a Maximum Velocity now, so hopefully those will be done this week.

Star Fox 64 should be easy to find, but the price may be too prohibitive.  I'm looking for one under $10, so hopefully that will happen soon.

Metroid will take a little longer and a little more money though... :(

If you want to do that, use our collection tool under "Tools" at the top of your screen, it's the best way to keep track of what's in your collection :)

I'd like to reach 1000 games total

200 Mega Drive games
50 G7000 games
50 2600 games
20 Vectrex Games

Add the following consoles:
32x
Atari 2600
Atari 5200
Master System I

But as I tend to jump around on purchases most of those probably won't happen

Mine are plain simple.... though not so cheap, I think

- Get a Turbografx-CD and finally see if it's worth it.
- Get Panorama Cotton, Gleylancer and Eliminate Down for the Mega Drive.
- Get all the Mega Man games I still don't have for the NES.
Update on my goals:

I got a PC Engine Duo, which is better than the Turbografx-CD, I think! ;)
Yes, I managed to get those rare MD games - actually, I managed to get ALL the shoot'em ups ever released for the Mega Drive.
I gave up on the Mega Man goal.... Not a priority anymore.

Wow, I just discovered I've never posted in here.

Anyway, When this thread started, I think I had about 240 games.  Now I have 297, and my initial goal was 300, so I'm aiming for 350.

Well my goal was 500 games, but I'm 1 game away from that now (with 2 more on pre-order) so that's covered.

Now... more specific goals:

- Get a nice Commodore Plus/4 and some games to take me back to my childhood.
- Get some more NES games, my total has been lingering at ~90 for too long.
- Fill out my Final Fantasy collection (mainly the newer DS/PSP games I don't have).
- Increase my survival horror collection so it isn't quite as RE-heavy
- Get some more PS1 RPGs such as Suikoden 1 & 2, Star Ocean 2, Breath of Fire 3 & 4 etc.

F-Zero GX complete (PC)

I'd like to break 2,000 games, but the chances are not very good for that.
I also really want to set up a booth at the local flea market for a couple weekends. I've said it before, but I never actually do it. But, I'm becoming overwhelmed with extra games and systems, so it's becoming necessary.

Forgot that I also need to find a Sega Master System.

I finally got a SMS. I now have all the old consoles I want.

And I'm pretty close to breaking the 2,000 mark. I don't think I will make it, but I should be close.

And the flea market season is pretty much over and I never set up a booth, but I did trade a lot of stuff at the flea market, so I kind of accomplished that goal.

With the arrival of all these things, I will only need 2 more Sonic game variants for the Genesis: Sonic 1 NFR and Sonic 3 Mega Hits! I am soooooo CLose!!!

Ah, that's a great place to be in. :) I still need a couple of consoles myself (but I've won a Dreamcast auction, so that should arrive somewhere next week) and then I'm "done" with buying consoles myself.

I look forward to only having to buy/look for games instead of having to spend money on the consoles themselves.

Top 100 Games (5 away last time I counted, and all 5 are going to be 2600 games)
Top 10 Boxed/Complete 2600 Games (which I will finish when I finish the goal above this one)

And, if I have the time/money:

Get a another complete mega man game for the nes.

So closing to nearly a year ago I posted:

And from what has happened:

Systems:
Buy two original Playstation systems for link play.
- Nope, though it almost happened twice this year.

Purchase a 3DO or Turbo Duo.
- Found a Duo in the wild and bought several games. Looking into modding it sometime next year for PC-Engine play.

Find a good Xbox, prefer CIB.
- Bought an Xbox from a local game store a few months back, no box or manuals though.

Games:
Import a dozen new Saturn games.
- Earlier this year (Feb-Mar) I imported 38 on eBay and bought 3 more from conventions.

Add at least another 15 CIB Atari 5200 games.
- Only gained 7, but I may go back to a store and get some more they had. :)

Complete a few dozen more Genesis, Nintendo, Super Nintendo and 2600 games.
- Bought some more CIB games, but didn't complete any loose carts. :(

Purchase some new duplicate PC games for my laptop to play over LAN with the desktop.
- No duplicates but bought a lot of new PC games that run on the desktop, but laptop can't handle.

I'd say I've done a good job and didn't keep a list by my side either. I just speculated what would happen. LOL
One thing I didn't see happening was I purchased my first cocktail cab! I've been cleaning it up as it works great, just the control panels have wear+tear from use. I'll finally bring it inside once it's looking nice.

My goals:

maintain over 1,000 games

complete Game.Com (games hardware will just be extras)
complete Pico (not including Storyware Sampler)
complete HyperScan(game discs not Trading Cards)
Complete US Mortal Kombat home console releases

Reach 200 PS2 games
Reach 200 Xbox games
Reach 50 Wii games

Get (dual game cart) Mortal Kombat/Mortal Kombat II for GB CIB
Get an Xbox 360

Since i seperated my games, hardware and demos i am nowhere near any of my specific number goals.

I might get lucky and get a 360 before the year is out for a gift though i doubt it.

I believe the last HyperScan game i ned is Spiderman so there is the chance i might make that goal.

Everything else is a wash out.

Haven't really completed either of my goals. I didn't really add that many games to my collection (at least, it doesn't seem like I did), but I don't think I completed any of my loose/partially completed games, and I certainly didn't find a Deluxe set that I could afford. Better luck next year.

Title: Re: Collecting goals for 2008

I'm going to start focusing on the NES this year so my goals are:

-Bring total NES carts owned to over 400 different titles
-All 6 Megaman games
-Get a copy of Little Samson
-Get 3 NES accessories I currently dont own (NES Advantage, Multitap, ROB, or Power Pad)

This really didnt happen at all. I had a scattered focus again this year. I got a few great NES titles, but no where near 400 yet.

1 out of 6 Megaman titles, and definately so Little Samson yet.

I did however get 3 different NES accessories, although not the ones I intended to get. Grabbed a Quickshot, NES Max and U-Force Controller. Quickshot is kinda useless, but the NES Max is really great if only for the extra couple feet of cord it gives you and the U-Force is a ton of fun to just goof around with.

I think I'll really put some more thought into my collecting goals for this coming year and set some that are much more appropriate.

Here were my goals for 2008

Complete 32x. I have 25 of the 36 games. Not a lot of progress on this one, but at least I got Spiderman haha.
250 genesis games. Currently have 173. Most of my time spend on the Genesis this year was getting boxes for the lose games I have. Out of those 173, only 27 are loose carts. Hightlights of the games I picked up are TMNT Hyperstone Heist, Gunstar Heroes and Shining Force.
125 saturn games Didn't really find a lot of these this year, only have 61. Saturn stuff is pretty scarce in my area, especially complete games.
75 dreamcast Close! As of now I have 70. Guess I'll ask for a few DC games for xmas :p
35 sms I really can't get into SMS all that much :( I think I got Rampage, thats about it. Sorry Master System.
35 sega cd 21. About doubled my total from last year, all on one goodwill score. Robo Aleste is pretty fun.

I got some other cool stuff that I wasn't expecting this year like a Jag/Jag CD and a TurboExpress, so while I didn't get anywhere near a lot of my goals it was still a good year

I got 1.5 out of 3 goals.
I didn't reach a total of 2,000 games, but I came pretty close with 1,935 games. I'm fairly certain that I had not sold or traded anything away, I would have passed 2,000 though. So I failed that one.

I also didn't set up a booth at the flea market, but I did trade a lot of games to vendors there and I did sell quite a bit of stuff here and DP, so I say that was 1/2 accomplished.

And the only goal I really truly accomplished was getting the SMS. I got one and all the hookups, controllers and ton of games for it.

1. Done! I bought a lot of fun games this year. :)

2. This year I bought a NES, SNES, N64, Master System, Mega Drive, Saturn, Dreamcast and Atari 2600. I'm very pleased. The only consoles I didn't get this year (from that list) are the Gamecube and Xbox. I'll get those in 2009.
