Title: Cartoons Post by: TraderJake on December 17, 2007, 05:40:53 PM Thanks to the magic of youtube, we have access to things that just invoke WOW! Case in point, these videos of cartoon openings from the 80s and 90s. Wow, memories. Take a look.
So the vast majority of us on this site grew up in the 80s or 90s, so, some of those cartoons may bring back memories. What did you watch? What really kicked ass? Let the world know. Title: Re: Cartoons Post by: den68 on December 18, 2007, 08:58:15 AM I love cartoons. I still watch them. I was watching Transformers Armada last night and am looking forward to the debut of Transformers Animated the day after Christmas.
In my nearly 40 years of cartoon watching I've had several favorites. I'll start in the 70's since some prime cartoon viewing years (age 5-11) took place for me in that decade. A lot of these cartoons were from the 60's but were re-run constantly in the 70's. Some like Scooby-Doo still are. 70's Scooby-Doo: come on... who hasn't watched and loved this show? The Funky Phantom: I honestly don't remember much about this show but it was one of my first favorites. Speed Buggy: I had a Speed Buggy lunch box back in grade school. Speed Racer: Fast cars, lots of crashes. Every young boys dream. Kimba The White Lion Wacky Racers 80's Battle of the Planets: Gatchaman for you anime afficionados Transformers G.I. Joe Thundercats: I watched this one every morning in the student center before going to class my first couple years of college. 90's Loony Tunes: Yeah I watched these growing up but I got obsessed with Warner Bros. cartoons in the 90's. I still have the piles of VHS tapes to prove it. Tiny Tune Adventures: My wife and I used to watch this one together. Batman The Animated Series: I thought the animation style of this one was amazing. Very stylized. How many super hero cartoons have aped it look since? Gargoyles I'm sure there's a ton of others but these all stand out. Title: Re: Cartoons Post by: Ghost Soldier on December 18, 2007, 09:21:17 AM Some of my favorites:

We watch the classics as well as the new stuff. Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island is her favorite. There's a new Scooby show called "What's New Scooby-Doo?", this thing features music by real bands. I was watching it the other day with her and there was a chase scene backed by "Rockaway Beach" by the Ramones. Scooby AND the Ramomes.... how can you beat that? As a kid, Saturday Morning Cartoons and weekday cartoons were where it's at. Now, cartoons are on whenever, where ever. Saturday Morning Cartoons? What is that? It's sort of sad. That said, I like current cartoons, and yeah, these are the cartoons that stand out in my mind. Good cartoons, of course, I've seen a lot of cartoons, especially the 90s cartoons... I think I've seen at least once every cartoon in that real.

I remember when it was an hour long. Some time towards the end of its run, some dumbass decided to edit them down. I mean...when Daffy says "shoot me now!", you want to see the end result after Elmur blasts his beak backwards, right? They'd edit stuff like that out. Now you can only see the originals on their DVD collections. :-\
Others were: The Jetsons Hong Kong Phooey ("#1 Super Guy") Pink Panther Tom & Jerry Grape Ape Speed Racer Mr Magoo Flintstones Woody Woodpecker/Chilly Willy Popeye (the best were the old B&W ones) Laff-a-Lympics Yogi Bear Scooby Doo Superfriends ("WONDER TWIN POWERS...ACTIVATE!") Fat Albert! ("Heybuh Fatbuh Albuh!") Futurama Nowadays, I'll occasionally catch an episode of the Simpsons and/or Family Guy. Title: Re: Cartoons Post by: logical123 on September 22, 2008, 03:42:45 PM I love Mr. Magoo. :)

Title: Re: Cartoons Post by: Zagnorch on April 25, 2012, 05:41:39 PM Ya know, I gotta be honest:
A few years back took another look at a lot of the 1980s 'toons I used to watch as a kid... ...and for the most part I found myself embarrassed that I could have been so easily entertained by such silly nonsense. Same goes for much of the live-action fare I liked, too, like The A-Team, Knight Rider, and You Can't Do That on Television! But, for better or worse, they are a part of my childhood. There's the obvious shows, like TransFormers and G.I. Joe. Although I was way more into the TransFormers toys, I hafta admit that the G.I. Joe show was better-written. Though that's not saying much... Then there's Voltron, which was notable for me 'cuz I was the only grade-schooler who liked the 15-piece vehicle robot more than the 5-piece lion one. Years later, I found out that the original Japanese versions of the show had lots more violence and death in 'em, complete with stabbings, shootings, and other vivid scenes of appalling brutality: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7nxQNZ_rEM&feature=fvsr Man, where was this Voltron when I was a kid? It's infinity times more awesome than what we eventually got in the states. Still, as far as reworked and edited-down anime goes, I still think Star Blazers and Robotech hold up fairly well. I just wish they'd release the unedited Japanese version of Space Battleship Yamato in the states. And how could I forget Mighty Orbots: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qiFRD0NLzY I also enjoyed Danger Mouse, although I rarely watched it 'cuz it usually played in the early afternoon when I was at school. Title: Re: Cartoons Post by: Shadow Kisuragi on April 25, 2012, 05:48:21 PM Robotech/Macross/Yamato. !!!!!
...don't make me rewatch the whole series again, please. Title: Re: Cartoons Post by: Zagnorch on April 25, 2012, 07:46:34 PM Robotech/Macross/Yamato. !!!!! ...don't make me rewatch the whole series again, please. Do it. DO IT!!! You'll be gone so long, we can really do some funky things around here in your absence... ...like making this place the next 4Chan. MWA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!! Title: Re: Cartoons Post by: Zagnorch on April 25, 2012, 08:03:58 PM In hindsight, it was more appropriate for the now-drifty moniker thread.

Title: Re: Cartoons Post by: Silent Scythe on April 25, 2012, 08:14:54 PM One of my favorite hobbies outside of video games is trying to get a hold of cartoons from the first golden age of animation. Lonney Tunes and Merrie Melodies are some of my all time favorites.
Also, The early season of the Simpsons and Freakazoid!. Title: Re: Cartoons Post by: Cryptid Collector on April 25, 2012, 08:51:34 PM I can go on and on about cartoons and anime

Title: Re: Cartoons Post by: raffa1985 on May 05, 2012, 04:22:35 PM I watched i lot of cartoons when a was a kid, but nowadays it's pretty rare, but i still find fun the classic ones, especially Woodpecker, Tom and Jerry and Scooby Doo. I like Dexter's Laboratory too, just because of Dee Dee. However, i can't stand recent stuff like Spongebob, i don't know if has to do with the nostalgic factor, but i found the script and characters dumb, only appealing to kids from 3 to 7 years.
