Title: Gyromite Famicom Adapter
Post by: Beardcore84 on November 18, 2007, 05:01:03 PM
I did a search for this and couldn't find anything. I know about the gyromite Famicom adapter in some copies. Everywhere I read about it, it says something along the lines of "early NES games including gyromite"... etc. What I'm wondering is has anyone found these adapters in any other early NES games and if so which ones. Thanks!

The "Famicom adapter" was in a handful of the earliest NES games.  I believe the story was that Nintendo was falling a little behind in production of cartridges for the US NES as it launched in time for the holiday rush, and building the adapter and using surplus Famicom boards proved to be a financially feasible move.

You can find a list of the games that Famicom adapter in the National Game Depot game list (http://nationalgamedepot.zoomshare.com/1.html).  I've also seen these adapters used in some of Ben Heckendorn's portable mods (http://benheck.com).  In particular on his article on the making of the NESp (http://www.benheck.com/Games/Nintendo_projects/NESp/NESp%20page%201.htm), you can go to the second page and see a gyromite cartridge broken with the adapter showing.

Most of these famicom adapter games had a variant with a regular board inside, so no particular game is a sure shot.
