Title: atari label variations
Post by: Shrooin on November 17, 2007, 06:04:45 AM
Atari games, 2600 in particular, can have many types of different labels for the same type of game. Heres an example of 4 different label types for space invaders.

To get a decent database of Atari 2600 games label variations should be incorporated somehow. Also games with different labels were released at different times, had different boxes/manuals/etc and differ in rarity.

I think label variations can be put under "Extra Media" but I'm not sure.  Think there was talk around here about Atari label variations  not all that long ago.  Maybe one of the mods can fill us in.

That's what I usually do.  I've never been corrected, so it must be proper way to do it.

For now the correct way to do label variations is extra media. I really really don't want separate game pages for 15 Combat carts just because the TM is in a different spot of what ever. I have no problem with putting scans in the extra media or talking about all the different label variations in the game trivia section.

Now we do track Atari vs Sears releases. I am trying to think of a good way to track re released games like Gravitor. The Silver Label is worth a lot of money and the red label is worth almost nothing.

IMO, the Silver label Gravitar should be a separate variation of the red labeled one. Since it was exclusive mostly to Atari Club members we should add that to the variation title like : Gravitar [Atari Club Silver Label]. Think of it like a [Nor for Resale] variation. One of few instances where a variation is justified for an Atari 2600 game.
