Title: Thievery!
Post by: Sauza12 on October 12, 2007, 01:27:17 PM
Well hello everybody!  It's been what, 6 months since I posted here?  I have my reasons.  Mostly a combination of work and home stuff that keeps me from tackling the ol' internet.  But that's not the reason why I'm here today.  I have a much more dire reason  :o

Tuesday while my girlfriend and I were at work, somebody broke into our house.  My girlfriend walked into our house to find stuff strewn about everywhere and called me at work.  They didn't hit the main house to bad, but boy oh boy did they have a good time in my game room.

All told they got away with all of my Gamecube games, all of my Xbox games, all of my Wii games, most of my PS2 games, a bunch of systems, all of my guitars, and a bunch of other random stuff.  By my initial estimate, they got away with almost $6000 worth of stuff, of course I'm sure it's probably more than that.

While all of that is pretty bad, I'm actually pretty relieved.  When they broke in, while they took a bunch of my possesions, that stuff should all be covered by the insurance company (Hopefully.  I'm sure I'll end up getting the bone a little bit).  I'm relieved because they were at least decent enough to not hurt my dog (He isn't even a year old yet).

I'll keep you guys updated if anything happens.  We filed a police reoprt and yesterday I gave them a list of everything that was stolen.  My girlfriend is going to go to our insurance company today to start the claim.  Thankfully RF Generation is around to help prove that I had the stuff that got taken.  I would have been screwed without it.

Damn man good luck with the insurance company.

Your also probably better off that they took your newer items, since they may have tried and reimburse you at a highly depreciated value for older games/systems.

Good luck and hopefully everything turns out for the best.

I was thinking the same thing. Glad your dog is OK. Keep us posted.

Best of luck to you and stop by some more.

Well hello everybody!  It's been what, 6 months since I posted here?  I have my reasons.  Mostly a combination of work and home stuff that keeps me from tackling the ol' internet.

Don't worry, that happens to me all the time, maybe not for quite as long though.

Man, that really sux, and a big reason why I wanted to sell my Saturn collection also, it's just too much of a liability. And like Izret101, older games and system will no doubt not be seen by the insurance company at the value they are worth. Hope you get a lot of that money back, but even then it doesn't make up for all your time and effort that went into making your collection.

Best case scenario, it would really be awesome if the crooks are found out before they get a chance to sell off any of your collection they stole. Keep a close eye on local second-hand stores and eBay. You can even let the local second-hand stores know now to keep an eye out for ya.

people suck. one day they'll get what's coming to them.

hopefully you'll get enough to try and recover what they took. but damn, what a chore that will be. at least you know what's gone.

good news about your dog. much more important than a bunch of games.

Thanks for the support everybody.  This isn't the first time I've had someone break into my house, but it was the first time since I got my own place.  At least I had some experience in the matter   .

But on to some good news!  I had a cop stop by my house this morning while I was getting ready for work, and apparently they caught the people that broke into my house!  They have one in custody, and warrants for two more people.  Best of all, the officer I talked to said he has pretty much everything that was taken back at the station!  I'm going to pick it up tomorrow after he finishes processing everything.  I'm hoping that he will actually be able to tell me who it was that broke in, because I think I might know who it was.  If it was who I think it is, oh the pain that I am going to deliver.

I can't believe how fast they got everything back.  I gave them the list of stuff that was stolen on Thursday and they got the bastards on Monday.  Here's a little hint to prspective thieves everywhere; if you are going to liquidate at a pawn shop, wait a week or two because there is a good chance the cops will be looking for you.

Oh boy, more hot update action.  I got a letter from the county yesterday naming the people that are being charged with the break in.  Since I don't care about these two people at all, their names are Devonn Martin and Michael Surma.  When I heard the second name, it sounded familiar so my girlfriend did a myspace search for him.  And boy did she find him.  HE'S MY NEXT DOOR EFFING NEIGHBOR.  Sweet.  Excellent.  I have a theif living next door.  With his parents.  And he has no job, because he was fired from his pizza delivery gig.  And he's 21.  Here's the simps Myspace page:  http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=50561788

I went to pick up my stuff today and they got pretty much everything back.  They even got back the laundry basket that the theives used to carry all the games.  The only unfortunate thing is that they sold a bunch of the games to a few different Gamestops which meant two things:

1)  Some of the games were resold before the cops got there, so I'm out those games.
2)  Since Gamestop doesn't buy sealed games since they can't sell them as used if they are sealed, they opened a bunch of my sealed games.

What really pisses me off is that my neighbor got busted on Friday, which meant his parents have known that their son broke into my house for 6 days now and they haven't come over and said anything to us.  No apologies, no begging to go easy on their son.  All I received was a dirty look from the father on Saturday before I knew that it was their son that broke into my house.  Real nice.

On a funny note, when I went into the police station the detective that was handling my case let us know that the kid was pretty stupid.  Not because he broke into our house, but just in general terms.  One of my freinds apparently went to the same high school as him and told me he was held back a grade.  lawlz.

I should be getting a subpoena sometime this week to appear in court for the first douchebag on the 23rd, so unless I get drunk tonight and storm next door I probably won't have any updates until then.  I know, I'm sad too.  This just keeps getting better and better...

Don't you love it when family members of the accused give you the dirty looks.  Like you did something wrong.  It's not your fault there family member is an idiot.  Sorry to hear about GameCrap opening your sealed game's.  Best of luck to you on this.

Even if some stuff got opened and you only got 90% of your things back.

Your doing better than damn near 100% of people who have a B&E.

You may infact also be able to get the parents into legal trouble seeing as the kid lives with them and it would be hard not to notice that someone has brought a whole bunch of guitars and a stockpile of games into the house.

wow! glad to hear you got your stuff back, well most of it anyway. too bad the little prick lives next door. that's got to make you feel real comfortable leaving the house.

Yea, the living next door part sucks but them douche bags who sold the games should have to give you the money they got from selling the games AND buy you the games back you sold.  Kick the fuckers ass's.  Especially that Mike dude.  His frickin' My Space page shows him flipping someone off!  How rude!

Oh and he will be.  I went to court for the preliminary hearing on Tuesday, and he couldn't pay bail, so he is in jail right now.  The other guy had a lawyer with him and managed to post the $1000 bond to get out.  I thought thier heads were going to explode when they heard the maximum penalties:  15 years in prison or a $10,000 fine.  It looks like neither of them have had any past felonies, so I'm sure they'll just get probation.  At least it will be on thier records.
