As it looks like I may have been a bit evil in the trial run, I'll give 3 clues.
1.made in 1986
2.a movie, not a tv series
3.based loosly on greek mythology

I have seen maybe 10 anime's so I will suck at this.

Then consider this a good time to learn about it more.

This is going to be a fun game.

The next screen is from a children's film that did get dubbed in the States.  Surprisingly, for a children's film it does have some nudity.  The film is in color despite this screen.  I always like old pen-and-ink animation like this.  Not as pretty as any Miyazaki film, but hey, its 1979.

This one is going to be a hard one.  Looks familer but Tezuka's Budda never got animated that I'm aware and that's not his art style to begin with.

I initially thought Tezuka as well, but it's probably not. Damn you Ben!

This one was indeed released as I do have a store-purchased copy on VHS.

I keep wanting to call it Enchanted Journey even though I know that cant be it.  That had a release in 84 but I dont think that was it at all.  Still digging.

Toei Animation was the studio that released it originaly.


For the record, I could only guess it was a Toei series originaly as they were one of the biggest studios producing anime in Japan.  I've never actualy seen the show though.  After reading the write ups for it I'm hoping Toei is serious with their announcment to release their entire backlog of animation in the states.  This could use a re-release here.

nice find, man.  Killer digging skills.  Yeah, I had a hard time determining whether it was anime the first time I watched it.  Excellent dubbing and localization with no credits for the localization team, only for the original voice and art talents.  That and it was distributed by Turner over here.

I found the tape at a gas station as an ex-rental.  It was good enough for a view or two, so I'll call it a win.

I'll have to watch this thread. I have a ton on anime that I've picked up at thrifts or discount stores like Big Lots/ problem is I have not watched much of it yet.

I know what that is as well as the two sequals and even the third one which still has yet to make it here.  One of the best damn sci-fi series to date and based on a novel series I realy wish would be translated and released here.

It's crest of the stars/banner of the stars/banner of the stars II/banner of the stars III.  The first 3 saw a domestic release but as there was only 4 episodes to the last it will doubtfully ever see a release in the states.  Oddly enough those who listen to Coast to Coast on AM stations may have cought Art Bell giving it high praise as he considered it one of the best sci-fi series to come out recently.

I'll post something later today.

I bet it will come out here as a single DVD one day.

darn, sorry about that, I took the shot from a sampler dvd promoting KoF 2006 (a game), including those four episodes from the anime.  There's gotta be more to the series because the sampler barely has any story at all.

Came out in the early 90's where as the manga came out in the late 80's.

It's the same series as my avatar is from.
