I think any rewarding activity has an addictive component. Whether you become addicted or not is just dependant on your personal attraction to the reward.
I for instance, could never ever become an alcoholic in a million years. I don't like anything about getting drunk. It's just a bad experience for me. But tell me I can have 280% increased movement speed if I farm 5000g and I'm there plugging away for 100+ hours. Most alcoholics would never see any motivating factor there. Especially considering farm work is back breaking labor involving many, many pounds of lifting, hauling, etc, not normally measured in grams.
