Thought that if we had an eating thread we could use a drinking thread as well. 

Just a thread for interesting drinks, alcohol not required.  If you have something unique, let us know.  If it's good recommend it.


So for the first post......

I am currently enjoying a German Riesling named Fünf.  It is a sweet riesling from the Rhine valley.  I believe it was about $7.50, so not terribly pricey.  Thier slogan, if a wine can have a slogan, is Fün begins at 5.  (Fünf is German for 5.)  It's pretty darn good. If you like a sweet white wine I would recommend it.

I'm going to stay away from alcohol until I lose some weight. I used to drink it nearly every night.

I just started my summer job yesterday at a Pepsi bottler/distributor and there's free beverages to the employees! 

I had a Mountain Dew tonight. 

Sweet with lots of caffeine.  Gives a light sugar buzz.

just got a six pack of blue moon, best beer i had in a while.

water. I finally managed to ween myself off Mountain Dew. I hate diet soda but I'm getting used to it. I do like Cherry Coke Zero. it actually tastes like regular soda.

There is a very good local brewery here.  I bought a growler from them this past Tuesday.  They have refills on Tuesday for $6.00, I will be doing that every Tuesday from here on out I think.  I had their "Piper's Pride Scotish Ale" this time, and I was very pleased with it.

Red Stripe is good, but there are much better beers out there for the price.  I still like to have it now and then though.

Currently having some Jim Beam.

i liked red stripe alot, you can get a six pack for $6.95. not too expensive. right now my buddy brought over a 6 pack of grolsh blonde lager. it has a decent taste. i used to drink alot of cheap beers but know i rather get a 6 pack of something nice.

^$6.95 is a good price for Red Stripe.  The local stores sell it for $7.99 here. 

I'm really into darker beers, so what I consider a good beer might not be what other people consider good.  I also tend to stick to micro or regional breweries, though I can't explain why. 
You just have to try around and find which ones you like personally. 

The best beer I've ever had comes from Cleveland.  (It's about the only good thing to come out of that city. ;-))  It's not cheap, but it is very, very good.

With summer here, sometimes a nice wheat beer can be good too.  Here is my favorite:

I used to drink a Blue Moon every once in a while, but now I can't go back after having the Sunset Wheat.

As far as beers that are available nationally, I like Warsteiner Dunkel, Guinness, most Sam Adams beers, and Hofbrau Dunkel and Spaten if I can find them. 

I'm currently enjoying a 12 year old scotch.

It's Tuesday, so it's discount growler night at Lafayette Brewing Company.  Tonight I tried their seasonal dunkel and was very impressed.  I've already polished off a 1/4 gallon of the beer, and I suspect that I will down the entire half gallon before night's end.  Very good beer. 

This man speaks of gold. Dortmunder Gold is some good shit, and is truly the only good thing to come out of the Cleveland area, save for my friends out of Northeast Ohio.

I didn't really enjoy it, though. The pub was packed for quiz night and I don't like busy places, so it was making me paranoid. I'm also not in the mood to be in this country at the moment. Mainly because a lot of the people are dildos. I nearly got in a fight with a topless drunk chav having a tiff with his girlfriend, who was actually called Tiff. He was walking along not looking where he was going and bumped into me then got all up in my face with his charver language.

Since mum and dad joked about moving back to New Zealand last week I've been thinking about how crap this country is. Not new thoughts, it's just come back to light.

Anyway, I'll end the day with a glass of cold milk.

gosh, its hard to get away from soda when you work with it all day AND they let you take some home free.  At least it hasn't killed my enjoyment of it.  Except for Diet sodas, which I despise even more now.  They leave a bitter aftertaste from sugar substitutes, and smell bad.  For some reason, they even feel stickier than the rest.  If you're drinking soda to lose weight, you might want to try cutting back your quantity first, because the quality loss isn't worth it.

I drink a strong cup of Earl Grey every morning. I tried it one time after Picard drank it on STNG and have been drinking it ever since. I've always hated coffee, but I love hot tea.

Earl Grey has always tasted a bit dirty to me. I like normal tea with milk and sugar.

I keep having dreams where someone hands me a drink which I start sipping/gulping then I realise it's whiskey and it's broken my nonalcohol run. :(

Seriously though, It's a good accomplishment.  I was alcohol free for the three months leading up to my 21st birthday.  Of course, I had a bit of motivation, I didn't want to chance getting in trouble.

Sainsbury's Blue Bolt

It's a supermarket brand energy drink. I shouldn't really need to explain but I will anyway. I saw them in the fridge and thought it was Red Bull. I started drinking one and thought it had a hint of cherryade. Then I realised it wasn't Red Bull but a knock off. After I finished guzzling it down I had a horrible aftertaste of petrol at the back of my throat.

Conclusion - If I want a nasty tasting drink I'll stick to my brand loyalty and continue drinking Red Bull.

I've recently been having a drink called "Stimulation Drink". What an inspiring name. It almost makes me want to make a product called "Edible Food" or "Playing Game".

It's German knock-off Red Bull from Lidl. Pretty much exactly like Red Bull but about 50p a can instead of £1.39.

Red Bull is horribly overpriced as are most Energy Drinks.

Also, I am drinking Dr. Pepper. I'm a Pepper.

I always go for the cheaper brands, ex who needs pepsi or coke? I'll take a Jewel Cola any day, for only 10 cents. 10 cents, or $1? AND they taste the same. 10 cents please. :P

A scotch chosen by the good people at the Party Source in Kentucky.  It's a cask from the Gordon and McPhail distillery.  It's ok.  The Glenlivit is still the best I've found.  Any of theirs is excellent.

We had a case of Barefoot Bubbly.  My sister took 4 bottles with her to a party she was going to.  (3 of the Extra Brut, 1 Brut Cuvee) We have 2 Extra Brut and 2 Brut Cuvee left, and we have already had one bottle each of their Brut Cuvee, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and White Zinfandel champagnes.

I was following instructions (I have a jigger) but because I was using a larger glass than in the book I tried to double the ingredients. I think I didn't do the proportions right because I barely tasted any rum in there (is that normal?) but it was good anyway.

Mojitos I've had taste like sugar and peppermint. The friend of mine who makes them grows copious amounts of peppermint, and as such her drinks are filled with the stuff. Dangerous!

Right now I have some Bass, my favorite beer I think.

Have you tried Tanqueray Ten? It's much better than Bombay, in my opinion.

I went to a Turkish restaurant tonight and had two Turkish's beers, Efes Lager and Efes Dark.  The lager was not much different from a Budweiser, and the dark tasted a lot like Warsteiner Dunkel, which is a very good beer. 


I've not tried the Ten, but I have had the standard, and didn't really care for it.  I'll pick up a bottle when I'm next in the need.

Got some Black Label Captain Morgans and mixed it with "Mtn" Dew. Hella good drink to get girls drank with, tastes like vanilla "Mtn" Dew.

Same size can as Red Bull but it's 1970s brown. I have no idea if it's supposed to be an energy drink. I don't think it is, which just means it's a stupidly designer edition of Pepsi. It tastes like normal Pepsi but flavoured with demerara sugar. It has less than a normal 330ml can and probably cost more.

The Pepsi Raw website has stripy people dancing around naked and doesn't say much about anything. How very trendy.

White Lady. I love this cocktail.

I know this isn't the odd in some places, but I just had a Ben Shaw's Dandelion & Burdock pop. It was pretty good, but not an everyday drink.

Dad got a bottle of Lemon & Paeroa (L&P) from the Kiwi Shop in London yesterday. I love L&P but I don't think it's sold outside New Zealand and Australia, aside from these small import shops. It's kind of lemonade but doesn't taste like normal lemonade. It's quite a unique flavour.

Got this Captain Morgan's Tatoo Rum. Don't much care for it, since I usually just drink rum straight and this is like rum syrup. It's alright mixed with Full Throttle; but I feel like a girly man.

They are made by the Tallgrass Brewing Company, they operate out of Manhattan, KS which is obviously where I live at this point in time. And yes, beneath the can in the glass display you can see Castlevania: SOTN, Project Justice, Suikoden's horrible box art, and a reflection of MvC2.

Sirpsycho you must live in the Midwest states like I do. Leinenklugel is a great beer company and I've tried all their beers, love their Summer Shandy and 1888 Bock. But nothing compares to La Fin Du Monde beer from Unibroue brewing company from the lovely country or Canada. It is without a doubt the best beer to drink, it's strong and full of taste. Also pairs with video games well too.

Enjoy the brew. I like the warm clove and spice taste it has. The $8 is worth it to enjoy a good beer once in a while.

Big K Citrus Drop Extreme.

Big K is a store brand soda from a Supermarket called King Soopers here in Denver. I have heard it also called CityMarket in other parts of the state.

Citrus drop is your basic citrus soda, what makes the EXTREME version different is that instead of using pure sugar, they use orange juice in the mix as well, (Just like Dew), and have also increased the caffeine content to be comparable to Dew. The taste isn't quite there, but when this stuff goes on sale priced at $2.00 for a 12 pack, I don't mind doing without actual Dew.

If you are like me and prefer stouts over IPAs and lagers, this is a pretty darn good one. Hints of milk and mocha make the aftertaste on this one pretty good. And even though it is only 6% alcohol by volume, it still hits pretty hard.

This is brewed up the highway from me in Longmont, and the box says "Brewed on the mighty St. Vrain" but that river is barely a creek...they definitely oversell the "Might" of the waters they are brewing from, but nonetheless, a fantastic beer...ha ha

Experienced my first half-gallon jug of beer. I honestly didn't know it came bottled in sizes larger than 40's, but sure enough, there are a couple microbreweries in Cody, WY that bottle their stuff in these mammoths. This particular brew was a stout with a VERY strong coffee flavor to it.

ANYhew, I just finished off a Mountain Dew Baja Blast Zero Sugar that I picked up from Teh Bell. It was just $1 during their Happier Hours (2-5 PM). Well, actually it started as a Mountain Dew Baja Blast Freeze slushy thing, but after I drained that, I refilled the cup with Mountain Dew Baja Blast Zero sugar. 'Cuz hey, free refills and stuff.

I also took advantage of a $1 chicken quesadilla app coupon. I mean, can you believe those things usually go for $5.99 each? That's highway robbery if you ask me. I mean, it was good, but not $5.99 good.

Hey, does the hot sauce count as a beverage? If so, I used like ten of those bad boys. And even then, I still had about ten more of them left. Guess I'll just toss 'em into the glove compartment of pop's Ford Escape for next time-- oh wait, the Escape is in the shop, and we're currently riding around in a Kia rental from Enterprise. You know, the rental company founded by a guy who served aboard the Enterprise CV-6 in WW2? Watch the Battle 360 mini-series on the History Channel's official YouTube page, and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Anyway, the new rental is some sorta crossover/SUV hatchback dealie. I really like its extra leg room in the front passenger seat compared to the Escape, but opening the hatchback part is a bit of a pain. BTW dad's usual ride is in the shop 'cuz the transmission is slipping and needs to be replaced. We're talking a bill of over $7000, for a vehicle that's been driven just a little over five years. Crazy, right?
