Title: FactorySealed Games: Sell or Keep?
Post by: Moriya Hanzo on June 01, 2007, 05:01:07 PM
How many of you out there who find Factory sealed games in the wild, actually keep them apart of your collection? Are you ever tempted to open it to either play or check to see if they are actually sealed? Or do you just trade/sell them off to buy/trade for more titles.

I think it is kinda cool to own factory sealed games (especially from generations past). I get tempted from time to time but i haven't budged yet.

The only game I have that is factory sealed is Vectorman 2.  I have no intention of opening or selling it though.  Not because of value, but because I have a loose copy of the original, so I just play that.
I also have a sealed 4 player adapter for the Gameboy, but I'm never going to use it, so it's staying sealed also.
If I ever found something very pricey that was sealed, I would most likely sell it to buy another playable copy.

I found a sealed 2600 Missile Command at Goodwill. Might as well keep and open since it's not worth anything haha

I wouldn't. I would aquire another copy and play that. I have a few games that are still sealed and if they are discontinued I do not ever intend to open them. The others, I just haven't got around to playing yet.

If it worth anything i'll trade it for a complete copy of the game and something else.  Otherwise i'll probably just sell it.  I have a few sealed (or resealed <_<) games I just picked up at a flea market, but it's just like sports games... the best on is probably Turok for N64 :p

For anything no longer being made i try to pick up a second copy to play if i have a sealed one.

I bought one genesis game that was sealed and i opened it.

I kinda want to open one of the sealed MK Gameboy games i have because i think it might be a reseal/fake...

As for current games i don't open them until i want to play them. Even then sometimes i will just borrow the game from somewhere else or pick up a really cheap copy.

if you suspect it;s fake, it's better to open it because you don't want to sell it one day (that's what you're keeping it for right?) and have someone accuse you of selling fake stuff. Thats my opinion.

of course, doing that will devalue the item if it turns out not to be fake or resealed...

Actually in my case i would like to have a copy of all the MK games sealed and another mint opened and available for playing.

RIght now i will be more than satisfied with just getting them all complete.
Mint/sealed is DEFINATELY an after thought

Problem with trading sealed games for complete copies is that not many people value sealed games high. Same for selling. Most games are worth double and sometimes triple that of a complete copy but not many will budge. With the markt being flooded with cart only copies it is hard to find true collectors that want complete items instead of just have a bunch of carts and saying that they have a complete collection or a near complete collection. I have been trading for 4 years via internet now and i can say that either all the true colletors are gone or they have basically find all that is need.

It seems that NES games are among the most valuable factory sealed. I have found a few over the last five years and always sell them.

I have a bunch of sealed games that I just never got around to playing.

I may get to them sometime, but for now I'm keeping them sealed. And if one of them ends up being a "rare" game, then I'll be glad that I did for tradeability purposes.

Eventually, though, I see that I'll probably open and play most of them. I just haven't had the time.

I have a similar attitude towards my NES accessory collection, none are really intended for actual use so I try to get them new/sealed if possible.

As far as factory sealed games are concerned, I generally buy sealed games for resale, although I do have a bunch in my NES collection that I intend on keeping (sealed Cheetahmen II, and several AVE NES games).  I definitely would never open them as their value is significantly higher when sealed (for the rare NES games at least).

Games that are common sealed I have opened to scan for the site. If I found a rare sealed game I would get a CIB opened version and sell the sealed one.

I open everything.  In fact, just the other day I opened a sealed Panic Restaurant.  Cost me $170, but it was worth every penny :)

I found another stack of sealed games to open when I started packing.  Next up: TMNT III :P

I purchase sealed copies of Devil Dice and Crypt Killer for the PSX for $35 together at CGE.

They're going to get opened sooner or later.

I have a few sealed games that I won't open:

Aladdin Deck Enhancer + games for the NES
Arc the Lad Collection for PSX
Skeleton Krew for Genesis
Kirby's Adventure for NES

I pretty much open everything, except the things I buy specifically for the fact that they are sealed.

Unless I know I can sell it for stupid amount of money I would open any game.
