Title: The 'Super Bad Deals' thread Post by: BadEnoughDude on April 03, 2007, 05:37:35 PM I looked around and didn't see a thread for terrible deals that people see when they are hunting for games. I have seen an appauling number of awful deals lately, and sometimes you just need to get them off of your chest.
Like yesterday I stopped at a new pawn shop I found. They didn't have any pre-PS2/XBox games displayed, so I asked what they had and they showed me a small stack of 12 or so NES games. Not much, but a few decent titles. None of them were priced, so I picked out a few (Baseball Stars 2, Ghostbusters 2, Caveman Games, Contra, etc) and asked them to get prices for me. Most of them were in the $5-$8 range, other than Contra which they wanted $34 for! I have seen Contra go for some obsene prices, but never $34. Some others I have seen recently: Uncharted Waters: New Horizons (Genesis, loose) - $54.99 Romance of the Three Kingdoms III (Genesis, loose) - $47.99 Dragon Warrior VII (CIB, PS1) - $64.99 Who would actually pay these prices for games? Title: Re: The 'Super Bad Deals' thread Post by: Tynstar on April 03, 2007, 06:14:56 PM I have seen some stupid prices on stuff but I can't think of anyone "deal" right now. I am trying to think what I have bought and the was like why did I do that.

Title: Re: The 'Super Bad Deals' thread Post by: James on April 04, 2007, 04:55:36 PM There used to be a regular old guy at car boot sales who sold nothing but games. They were all priced at £4, whatever it was. Not an insanely high price but enough to annoy me. Like £4 for a loose Master System cartridge, but then £4 for complete Zeldas. I got a few things from him but I wasn't too happy about it. Every time I asked if he would do a deal he said he was selling them for someone else. My arse! He was buying them cheap from other people and selling them on.
There's an indie shop on Ghetto Street that does just used games, DVDs and CDs. His CDs and DVDs are well priced at about £2.50-3 each. He makes prices up on the spot, though. So sometimes his prices are high and sometimes they're silly. Although, I've had some bargains there. And he's a good place to get rid of cheap Mega Drive doubles because he gives £2 for any of them. Unlike the eBayers who post every Dreamcast game as 'Rare' because people have already forgotten the system and moved on. Fortunately for me, most end up being fairly cheap anyways due to low demand. The same place had a CIB wizardry for NES. First time I saw it, it was $7.99, decided to pass b/c I was getting some other NES games they had at more fair of a price. The next week I went it was $9.99, and the week after that it was $12.99. Passed both times obviously. The highest it went was $17.99 before it dissapeared (I'm assuming someone bought it). It's weird because the same place I've scored outstanding deals. Picked up a boxed Little Samson there for $9.99. Nes games used to be 2 for $5. Now there 2 for $8 unless there "rare". How bout a super mario bros./duck hunt for 10.00. They had a ton of games for older systems. Everything from Atari on up. I started off at the Master System games and was a little put off at the prices there. $15 for Altered Beast. $12 for Great Golf. $20 for Rocky. I thought, that's probably just for the Master System because the system was kind of obscure, so I went over to the Genesis games. Every game was at least $10. Even for the Madden games. I checked some other games before I left in disgust and saw the worst price for a game ever. $40 for Sonic Blast. I've never left an establishment that fast in my life. Title: Re: The 'Super Bad Deals' thread Post by: BadEnoughDude on June 17, 2007, 05:44:12 PM The Pawn America in my area must have revised their pricing strategy, because they now don't have a single NES game for less than $10. I don't remember many specifically, but they wanted $20 for SMB 2 and 3, and $15 for a light gun. $15 for a light gun!!!
The PS1 Final Fantasy games aren't too bad here, outside of FFVII, which pretty regularly sells for $40-$50. It also sells for that much on eBay these days, even for the Greatest Hits version. Kinda makes me upset that I gave my GH version to a friend for free because I also have the original. Oh well. They other FF PS1 games are somewhere around $20, which is reasonable.
