Title: PSO Chat Post by: JWKobayashi on January 17, 2007, 12:54:47 PM Must pull away from PSU for at least an hour....... I would say so.... Man... I'm glad that I haven't got started on PSU, no matter how much I was looking forward to it. With my PSO track record as an indication, my social life would be in the shitter. I haven't had anyone other than me playing on it, so it'd be cool to try it out. You just need a gamecube, bba, and PSO. :) Title: PSO Chat Post by: Tynstar on January 17, 2007, 06:16:23 PM I have those and PSO plus as well.
Title: PSO Chat Post by: JWKobayashi on January 18, 2007, 03:31:03 PM Okay, well we'll need to find some time to try it out then. :)
Also, if you haven't heard yet... SEGA is discontinuing support of the PSO games on GC on I think May 1, 2007. The last month that they're up (April) will be free to play. SEGA is discontinuing support of the PSO games on GC on I think May 1, 2007. The last month that they're up (April) will be free to play. Yeah I know. I also found two more people to play PSO on your server. Title: PSO Chat Post by: JWKobayashi on January 18, 2007, 11:46:43 PM Sweet. It's been too long since I've played PSO with a group of friendly people. I had a regular group of about 10 - 12 players during the V1 days on Dreamcast. Ever since then, I've just played with mostly random people, which isn't nearly as fun. :)
Then again, I only put in about 2 or 300 hours on the Gamecube, VS about 1500 on the DC.... Um... sorry to hijack this thread? ;) Title: Re: PSO Chat Post by: Tynstar on January 19, 2007, 02:09:23 AM I found one more person that wants to try. I will try to get a hold of you on AIM this weekend so you can tell me how to connect.
Title: Re: PSO Chat Post by: JWKobayashi on January 19, 2007, 12:11:28 PM Sounds good. I'll make sure to turn my AIM on and leave it up.
Title: Re: PSO Chat Post by: Tynstar on January 19, 2007, 12:33:31 PM Alright!
Title: Re: PSO Chat Post by: Cobra on January 19, 2007, 05:54:20 PM PSO was such an incredible DC game I would lose my self in.
I mean it was free to play, and really brought online gaming to consoles, so was something so new. I never timed myself to see how much time I spent online back then, but it's probably for the best ;) And to top it all off you the game even came with a Sonic Adventure 2 demo CD. Back when it came out for the DC, it took me about 3 or 4 months before I even tried out the Sonic demo. Shame, because I actually liked it. Title: Re: PSO Chat Post by: cauterize on January 21, 2007, 02:47:15 PM I have the JAP PSO for GC that came bundled with the Old Skool Modem....
Got a broadband adapter though so im okay for that, however will i be able to connect to your server if mine is the JAP version? If so id be up for joining! Title: Re: PSO Chat Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on January 22, 2007, 12:16:13 PM http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/index.xml
Title: Re: PSO Chat Post by: Tynstar on January 22, 2007, 12:21:12 PM http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/index.xml PSO through JWKobayashi = Free (I think) WoW through Blizzard = ass raping. Title: Re: PSO Chat Post by: JWKobayashi on January 22, 2007, 03:44:31 PM Yes, PSO through me = free.
I was super busy this weekend, but I'll post a connection guide some time this week. And yes, I'm pretty sure that the JP version of Ep 1 & 2 also works. Title: Re: PSO Chat Post by: JWKobayashi on January 22, 2007, 06:01:21 PM Ack. Through some testing I've found out that my ISP blocks incoming connections on port 53.
This is necessary for the server, as the basics of how it works are: First, in your BBA settings on your gamecube, you set it up just as you normally would to connect to your network / the internet / sega's server. You then change your DNS settings to my server. DNS is what tells your gamecube that (an example here) pso.sega.net = sega's IP address. The server I'm hosting has a DNS entry instead map pso.sega.net = my IP address. Anyway, this process runs over port 53 - the standard port for DNS. I've come up with a workaround that would work with a PC, but I'm not sure how the networking works in the GC. I can't test that, as I need it to come from an IP address other than my own. If someone would be willing to test it to see if it'll work, that'd be great. I can PM out the necessary details if anyone can help. You'd need a copy of PSO Ep 1 & 2 (US version, and not plus - just vanilla to test this), BBA, and a bit of knowhow of how to set up the GC on your network. Also, if this doesn't pan out (Charter. my ISP sucks BTW), someone else could host a server, or there are a couple of other stable private servers out there. The main one being this one: http://www.schtserv.com/ Either way, I'd like to get this running, as it'd be pretty sweet to play PSO with cool people again. :) Title: Re: PSO Chat Post by: Tynstar on January 22, 2007, 06:14:56 PM So do you have all the online missions like the Sega server had? Endless Nightmare? Mop Up?
Title: Re: PSO Chat Post by: JWKobayashi on January 22, 2007, 07:00:12 PM Yep, they're all there, including the download quests.
Title: Re: PSO Chat Post by: captain_nintendo on January 22, 2007, 08:22:47 PM Ooooo nice!
Title: Re: PSO Chat Post by: Tynstar on January 22, 2007, 09:23:13 PM Yep, they're all there, including the download quests. Awesome...... How did you get the quest? Sega? Title: Re: PSO Chat Post by: JWKobayashi on January 23, 2007, 12:14:34 AM Nope. They came bundled with the server application. I didn't develop it, but have simply downloaded and installed it.
There are still some bugs in the software, such as not being able to connect with Episode III yet. However, this is still a live project and new versions are forthcoming. Anyway, I believe that the quests were obtained using a packet sniffer and clever reverse engineering. These private server projects to not have the official blessing of SEGA, but they've turned a blind eye toward it. It's pretty sweet. Title: Re: PSO Chat Post by: Tynstar on January 23, 2007, 08:56:50 AM Well thats really cool. No worries on PSO Ep III. Take a great series of games and turn it in to a card game! :grrr: :grrr: :grrr: :grrr: :grrr: :grrr: :grrr:
Title: Re: PSO Chat Post by: JWKobayashi on January 23, 2007, 05:06:10 PM Eh, I think I'm one of the few that actually liked Ep III. I played it online for a couple of months. Until I lost my game save.
Title: Re: PSO Chat Post by: Tynstar on January 23, 2007, 05:39:27 PM I might have been a good game but don't call it a Phantasy Star game.
