50 pounds for 960 mint genesis boxes isn't so bad. Too bad you have to take out that game first.
Does the cartridge have the same freaky size as the mega drive electronic arts games?

Man, thats nuts. How could you first obtain, and then hold onto so many copies of NHL 96 for the freakin genesis for Mephisto's sake?

They are so shiny.
What do you think would happen if you did buy all those and then carted them over to the local gamestore for trade in?

My guess is that the store owner would take one look at all of those games and his head would cause an explosion so brilliant, we could see it over on our side o' the pond.

Could be a long-term piggy bank for you over eBay or something.

There's a guy in the Netherlands selling big lots of Atari carts and I've thought about investing (this is one example of several):

What are you going to do with them seriously though? Turn them back out and try to make a profit?

Actually, I bought a second pallet from him, for another £50, and I am giving my friend £50 towards diesel (fuel is expensive here) and the extra weight will be a problem. The collection has now been firmly arranged.

so, I am spending £150 to get 1,920 games.

7.8 pence per game or £1.87 per box of 24.

I shall try to sell them in various ways;
by the box, at around £5 per box on eBay
trade some in at a Gamestation
put them in a public auction
selll some singly when there is a free listing day on eBay
sell some at a car boot sale

etc etc

and I will throw some games away, and re-use the cases for my own collection
.

Give them out as christmas gifts to collectors you aren't too fond of but want to stay on good terms with. Or throw in a "free NHL 96 with purchase"...hehe

yup will certainly give it as a "bonus" item, on eBay too.

Was the second pallet that you bought NHL '96 as well, or was it another game?

Either way this is the coolest thing ever!

Apart from making an ass of my self in the original post........

They've just been delivered. the time here is 01:15am I just had a bath, my mate turned up at 12:20am, we must have looked quite suspicious to the nosey neghbours, I can guarantee at least 2 houses were people were peeping!, as we raced to unload the truck of it's 80 taped up boxes under the cover of darkness, before we caused a traffic jam, or some impatient and rude taxi driver came along, you'd have to see it to believe it, narrow streets, all one way, so if one truck stops and just two cars come along, it's chaos, even at midnight!

Anyway, all unloaded and accounted for, about 6 games short, but he did tell my mate that, and he was pretty cool about me re-negotiating just about every term of his auction too! :)

So, we unloaded them onto the side of the street,  and then I worked like the clappers getting them into my house.  They are piled in the lounge and we can't sit in there., I shall move them up into the eBay room over the next day or so.

Good job Mrs.THX is cool about it.

Now comes the hard bit, selling them :)

I didnt even see the box but believe it because you say that you saw it, so it must be true.

It's Den's favourite game, that should say something.

If the cartridge size were normal, so I could put other games in it, I'd buy a few boxes of you. I could use some spare boxes. In fact, I'd like 35 boxes if that were the case.

Can I keep this thread live, over the next few months, as I keep an account of how I am getting on, disposing of them all? :)

Sure. You can send me some boxes. How much would around 40 of them cost me?

Title: Re: 960 Genesis games mint/sealed on eBay
Post by: thx1138 on August 31, 2004, 05:51:41 AM
you mean empty boxes? I'll weigh an empty box, and try to figure it out from there., cheapest option to mail them.

--------------------

Well, the story so far. There were 78 sealed boxes, each box contatining 4 smaller cartons, of 6 NHL 96 mint/sealed games. There were two boxes, each with one carton missing. The total cost to me was £150.

So far, I have sold 4 sealed boxes (96 games) on eBay, and lost out. :(
My postage costs information was wrong, and it cost me £23 to send them, I onyl charged £11.21 :( Straight away I cancelled the other auction for the same, and explained to the seller.

The webmaster of a certaing British based board, has agreed to buy 4 boxes for £10.

I have sold one indivdual game on eBay for £0.99 plus postage.

Today, I took 2 boxes into my locacl auction house to "test the water", I do okay, I'll take some more in.

The best result so far, I re-used some boxes on my onw Electronic Arts games, and took loose NHL carts into Gamestation, where they gave me £1.50 instore credit per loose cart, I took in two, mixed in with other retro stuff, I shall continue trickling some that way.

Oh, and I placed an advert in retro-gamer, £2 each, including postage, it remains to be seen if they will actually print the advert.

Yeah, empty boxes. As long as they are in good condition. I want to put my mega tech games into them :)

Have not forgotten, but I need to check my facts - it appears that my postage cost listings are out of date. I got stung with a big bill when I sent a parcel in the week.

I am a member there, and at atari age. Don't think I saw the thread - and I just checked the DP forums, and still can't see it - link please?

I have about 1,200 left. I have finally found the strategy to sell them.

I sell them in job lots of 24, they are already packed, I just stick an address lable on. I had 80 cases of 24, and sell each one for £13.99 inlcuding postage, after eBay fees I make just over £5 per case, allowing for not solds listing fees too.
