I love stephen king, he is my favorite author.  so far I seen pet semetary, barely started reading cujo, finished IT (the story, not cujo), shawshank redemption, and the body and different seasons.  I just picked up a book today called cycle of the werewolf for $3, I have never heard of it before, I hope its not a waste of $3.  what are some other great books by king?  anything that is particularly rare?

PS my teacher said that He read something very interesting about how humanity would ultimately die because of overpopulation.  anybody Know what this was?

Well the first Gunslinger is awesome, the rest are OK but certainaly lacking after the first. The Stand (unabriged) is pretty good, a bit rougher than some of his other stuff (if you can believe it) and Salem's Lot rawked pretty hard.

I bought a bunch of more of his novels for a quarter a piece and haven't read them yet. I got sick of his style.

and what exactly do you mean by "rougher" after reading IT, which goes very deep into begginings of time, 10 year olds having sex and getting high, and a psycho clown that roams the sewer system of a town in maine, I didnt think it could get worse.

I agree with pretty much everything you've said there.

The Dark Tower books are great, especially book 4 the wizard and glass. You pretty much have to read them all in order to follow the story though.

If you haven't started reading Cujo I wouldn't bother, it's awful, and the way it is written without any chapter breaks, really starts to piss you off.

Other books which I have enjoyed of his which haven't been mentioned are Tommyknockers, The Dark Half, The Running Man and The Shining.

Books which I thought sucked were Cujo, The Regulators, Insomnia and Dolores Claiborne spring to mind.

I am surprised your parents let you read his books and watch his movies.

Well don't even let them see his picture. I wouldn't let my kid read any book written by a guy who looks like a fish.

My mom actually picked up and started reading IT one time, right at the part where little kids started doing it with each other.  she took the book away, but I have 2 copies.  sadly, the other copy is pretty much destroyed.

Dean Koontz is really good too.

If memory serves i liked more Koontz books than King.

I don't remember Kings other pen name but look into his short stories.

Kings pen name is Richard Bachman, though they do get published as Stephen King writing as Richard Bachman these days.

What's the point of having a different name then?

At the time it was only "customary" I guess, for an author to publish one book a year. He wanted to put out more so he made a pen name.

People figured it out though.

Nowadays nobody cares how many books get put out a year, not sure why he keeps the pen name on his book.

I also forgot to mention his book "On Writing" is very good.

His writing style was totally different writing as Bachman too. The Bachman books are a lot more surreal and personally feel harder to read.

If you like King and Koontz then I suggest Tamara Thorne.  For a female horror writer she is superb.  My favorite king book is probably geralds game.  Talk about a scary situation.  Handcuffed to a bed in the middle of nowhere with the front door open.  Not to mention everything else going on in that one 8-)

King is funny. He cranks out so much crap that he gets lucky every once in a while and writes something good. The man wrote a story about a killer washing machine! What else is there?

The Gunslinger is a quality piece of work though. The Gunslinger is probably my #1 hardest literary motherfucker of all time. That guy is a badass. He could kick Gandalf's teeth in.

The Mist is really good. It's in the anthology Skeleton Crew. The story was the inspiration for Half-Life. Good story. Bad video game.

I have a shitload of Steohen King books at home.  He has some good ones that were never that big.  I can't seem to remember the titles now.

But anyways, The Stand is one of my favorite books of all time.  Of course, I always seem to get really into post-apocaliptic type stories like this, so that might have something to do with it.

I picked up Everything's Eventual and Diffrent Seasons... So far I read Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption and Started The Body.. The Road virus Heads North is my favorite Stephen King short story..

I'll agree with the others and say The Stand.  The Shining is also good, but The Stand is one of my favorite books of all time.
