Title: DVD Collector's Forums?
Post by: tholly on August 29, 2006, 02:13:11 PM
Anyone know of any good DVD Collector's forums (especially one with software similar to RFs collection software.  I find that recently I have been more into DVDs than into Video Games and would love to see what types of collectors are out there.

How many DVD's do you have?

What's wrong with me? - Hmmm, I really don't know...... I just don't really wanna put forth the effort of holding a control and using my brain unlike movies that I can just lay back and relax.....I didn't buy anything game related the entire month of August.

How many DVDs do I have? - Well, I don't have an exact count right now, somewhere in the ~250 range.  I would really like to start collecting Criterion movies, it's just that they are expensive.  Once I graduate from Grad school in 2 years and get an actually job then I will be able to blow money on DVDs.

I think once I have the money (aka a job) I will start buying video games a lot more, but its hard to buy games at $40 a pop preowned when I can get 3 movies for $10 preowned at Gamestop.

You only need 3 video games (in order).  Counterstrike, Xenogears, Tetris.  Thats it.  Forever.

I have about 250 DVD's as well with 11 or 13 Criterion movies. They are expensive. 30+ a pop for a DVD is crazy. Won't even talk about the OOP ones.

Like Salo (which I really want to see, not just bc of the price either) which typically runs $350 to $400 on eBay (because only 2000 copies were released before Criterion lost the rights to the movie.)  If you see a copy of Salo going for $29.99 BIN then it is not the Nimbus white ring version (there is a white ring around the inner dvd circle, without this, the DVD is not legit, not one of the original 2000 and is more or less worthless.

Yep I know. Some of the other OOP ones are 100-200

You could try DVD Aficionado:

http://www.dvdaficionado.com/index.html

Right now, I've got about 260 DVDs and this is a pretty good site to keep track of your collection, plus it has a nice forum too.

as you can see i watch very few shows, hence my meager collection  :P

My Meager List (http://www.dvdaficionado.com/dvds.html?cat=1&id=tanis)

having bought them all new at release hit my wallet pretty hard, DS9 averaged $150cdn a season up here but at least i got all the extra bonus discs they included and Stargate SG-1 was around $60-80cdn per season. It sucks that season 9 of SG-1 will be in the new slim format like Atlantis, throws off the look of the other 8 boxsets with their 5 normal-sized dvd cases per box.  :-\

You just have to get all of them again.

I am up so 201 on my list. I have 49 more to go.

you do know, no one else can see the work folder except you, so if you want to share that part of the collection with other people, you will have to add a sub-folder to the owned section and put them in there....

It would take forever for me to put up my dvd collection.  I work for BMG/Columbia House and we have a company store.  DVD's $7, and CD's $3.  My cd collection is well over 2000 and my dvd's are hovering in the 1500~2000 Range.  Almost 9 years of working here will do that to you.

Just about broke from shopping at the store.  They do set a yearly limit of 200 of each item.  200 dvd's, 200 cd's etc.  Every once in awhile they get some x-box and ps2 games in.  Those go for $5 a piece no limit.  The only clause is we can't sell them for profit ie. ebay and such.  If your caught then your privileges are taken away.  I'll try and get some pictures taken of the dvd collection this weekend.  Most are boxed up just waiting for the new house.

Ah! Jesus Christ guys, it's hard enough to manage my game library.  Now there's a place for my DVD and VHS collection as well?  Uh, how long it take to list around 600 DVDs and around 200 VHS tapes?
My poor sanity, I think I will loose it this year.

That is once I figure out how to add stuff to my folders.

I know the Feeling.  I am a programmer geek, so I wrote an ASP.NET application using SQL server to track my DVDs.  I have about 750 DVDs and I don' t even know how many VHS cause we stopped watching them, hehe.  I count one season of a TV show as one DVD, so probably about 80 of my "dvds" are really box sets of a season of some TV show (mostly Star Trek).   I did not know there was a website to track DVDs, but I guess I don't need it now that I have my own.

I use DVD Profiler to track mine. I think it's a little bit nicer than DVDaf because it has more customization options.
