Thing is, the blood and gore that was a selling point of this game is decidly abesnt from this incarnation. So, for those of you looking for blood, look elsewhere. Those of you looking for a mediocre fighting game, here you are. Title: Re: Feat. Game 8.27.06: Mortal Kombat Post by: Tynstar on August 28, 2006, 02:39:53 PM I played MK a lot on the Genesis with a buddy of mine. Never really played it much at the arcade. MK is one of the very few fighting games I like.
Title: Re: Feat. Game 8.27.06: Mortal Kombat Post by: Speedy_NES on August 28, 2006, 04:09:47 PM I liked Mortal Kombat for the fatalities and the cheat menus :) I've played various incarnations of the game on multiple consoles, and have never really been disappointed.
Title: Re: Feat. Game 8.27.06: Mortal Kombat Post by: Shimra on August 28, 2006, 05:37:25 PM I thought it was cool when I was younger because of the blood. Now I realize that it could quite possibly be the biggest load of **** that has been dropped on gamers and passed off as mainstrain. Oh wait, Madden has already seized that title.

Title: Re: Feat. Game 8.27.06: Mortal Kombat Post by: Tan on August 28, 2006, 08:17:37 PM i played allot of MK in the arcades, especially 1 and 3, and still enjoy 2 on the SNES, i think the reason i prefer it more than others like FF or SF is because i like the ambiance and environment, the music, narrator and stages never seem to get repetitive to me, it's a game that sounds great when it's loud and easy to play. 8)
Title: Re: Feat. Game 8.27.06: Mortal Kombat Post by: Izret101 on August 28, 2006, 08:51:08 PM I played MK and UMK3 alot on Genesis.
They were among my first few games ever on my first ever home system(technically) Genesis :) I got really into the story/plot/characters. If i was in the game solely for the game play there is no way i would love the series as much as i do. But i like the fact that all the characters had what if scenarios and that the story line had some decent continuity. As far as a fighting game goes IMO it has the best story out there. EDIT Shameless plug(?) One of the few pages i was able to really go all out on info submissions: Mortal Kombat for Sega Genesis (http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-040-S-03680-A&) Title: Re: Feat. Game 8.27.06: Mortal Kombat Post by: RetroYoungen on August 28, 2006, 09:44:58 PM Mortal Kombat... the fighter that I've never, ever been good at. Good game, fun game, but not exactly my first choice. I did have a lot of fun with it though, because luckily everyone around me was as bad as I was growing up (or close enough; I suck so badly at MK...).
Title: Re: Feat. Game 8.27.06: Mortal Kombat Post by: DogBoneNES on August 29, 2006, 11:53:22 AM Mortal Kombat, that was a big part of my young teen years. We played MK1 and 2 to death at the Arcades back in 93' and 94', played it to death on SNES and Genesis. Yet when MK3 arrived, the Arcade Craze was everywhere, but as much as I liked Mk3, so much was missing until...UMK3 showed up, which I played once at the arcade, then got it on Saturn....when MK Trilogy came out I thought it couldnt get any better....the SNES/Gen UMK3 was pretty interesting, but tried so hard to be like Trilogy with the addition of Brutalities, which i think not many could easily pull off...

Game 8.27.06: Mortal Kombat Post by: Mike Leon on August 30, 2006, 09:39:13 AM I was the cool kid because I had the Genesis version with the blood and my friend had the SNES with the sweat. aaa yeah good times the good ooo Game Genie turned the sweat red HAAHAA The SNES version doesn't have sweat in place of blood. It just doesn't have anything. What game were you playing?Title: Re: Feat. Game 8.27.06: Mortal Kombat Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on August 30, 2006, 01:13:48 PM I thought there was green and purple crap instead.
Title: Re: Feat. Game 8.27.06: Mortal Kombat Post by: qixmaster on August 30, 2006, 05:12:10 PM the first time i played mortal kombat was on the super nes at my cousins house. We were both working our way through the game when we somehow played against Reptile. Now this was only the second day after it had been released and we almost shit our pants.
Needless to say, reptile owned my cousin and I never got to play against him. To this day I have yet to "accidently" stumble on such a suprising factor in a video game. The original mortal kombat rocks hard. I will never forget Sub-Zero ripping off heads or Kano's tearing out of the heart. what a lovely game Title: Re: Feat. Game 8.27.06: Mortal Kombat Post by: David_J. on August 30, 2006, 09:03:43 PM I played MK a lot back in the day. I thought MKT was the best MK game, IMO. It might have been heavily unballanced, but it was so fun that I would have paid a lot for it.
Now if someone has a Sega Saturn version for sale.... :( Title: Re: Feat. Game 8.27.06: Mortal Kombat Post by: Ghost Soldier on August 31, 2006, 07:41:02 AM My parents bought MKII for the snes and a new tv for my birthday. I remember having 4 friends stay over and we had a MK Bash talk about good times. I got owned alot back in those days but now I'm pretty good down, down, forward, forward, B gotta love it
Title: Re: Feat. Game 8.27.06: Mortal Kombat Post by: DogBoneNES on August 31, 2006, 11:49:37 PM I thought there was green and purple crap instead. Nah it's suppose to be "Sweat" colored purple/green with the game genie... Title: Re: Feat. Game 8.27.06: Mortal Kombat Post by: Cobra on September 09, 2006, 09:44:34 AM This is one of the big reasons for me loving Sega of the 90s, gore in the form of MK or Splatter House.
I loved to show up my SNES owning mates whenever I got the chance, but there was one thing this version on the SNES did have that the MD version did not believe it or not. I have always been artistic, and played a lot of attention to detail, and beauty. Shadows, background, doesn't matter what it is,at some point, I have admired it, or disliked it. And there was that one thing the SNES version had, a true Sub-Zero stance. Sub-Zero's stance on the MD was just a recoloured Scorpion. Also since MK is the game of the week, I'll use this opportunity to ask any one who has a PAL MKT for Saturn how much $ ? Title: Re: Feat. Game 8.27.06: Mortal Kombat Post by: phoenix1967 on September 09, 2006, 09:56:39 AM I remember first playing MK at the Red Baron arcade on Telegraph Road here in Michigan.
@Den68, remember that place? Standing right next to it was SF2, which I could never get down the timing to play well. But when I saw a player pull off a fatality on MK, I thought "WHOA!" and started dropping quarters into the game. Most of the time, I'd get clobbered, but those moments when I'd win and be able to pull off the Sub-Zero spine pull fatality were most satisfying. I never owned the SNES version. I had the Genesis. |
