Title: PS3 vs laptop. Which is the better value?

PS3 with 5/6ths of a game, or this...

Laptop gets my vote.

the 128 meg Intel onboard vid is ok for basic functions but gaming it really sucks, and with only 512 meg of ram, performance would be lacking, especially seeing as 128 meg of it is shared with the video.

i voted to find another one  8)

better deal (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Acer-Aspire-Notebook-PC-5102WLMI-/sem/rpsm/oid/156035/catOid/-12963/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do)

it's $100 more but a helluva lot better notebook for the money

How do the 2 compare?

Two completely different machines. Do you want teh laptop for gaming? If so I say build a desktop. Cheaper and better for gaming.

Understood. But isn't the PS3 supposed to be a "computer"? :)

Even with that said a laptop and desktop are 2 different things. I think Sony is going for the desktop not a laptop.  :P

The laptop also doesn't have a blu ray player. (not that it matters to me)

I also agree with Tynstar, I would build / buy a better desk top for gaming ;)

For gaming, PS3 by a long shot.

For other stuff, I'd get a better laptop than that.

Yeah, PS3 or homemade desktop for gaming. I'd only buy that laptop if I needed something for taking notes in college, or a nice paperweight.

I've revised the poll. Apparantly, the word "value" is very subjective so I've modified the options a little.

PS3 still wins even with the 360/Wii option.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion.. Even if it is crazy talk.

If you are willing to do what Tan says and spend the extra $150, then I recommend the PC he showed, otherwise, so long as you are only using your laptop to surf the internet, do Microsoft Office Applications, play solitaire, or watch DVDs it should be fine. If you are looking for a gaming rig, this PC is not the one for you.

Well said, Cap.  8)

@Tan, thanks for providing a better example of a quality PC at a good price.  :)

np 8) but if this is to become a gaming PC and mobility isn't an issue then like the others said, go with a desktop, much better value for your money than a laptop if you don't need to take it with you, and if it's space not mobility your after then try building a small form factor desktop like a shuttle XPC, most are only 1/3 the size of a desktop and can offer better performance than a laptop.

here's one example:

Shuttle (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16856101470&ATT=56-101-470&CMP=OTC-d3alt1me)

there are plenty of kits to choose from and most are well priced.

I just bought a new proper pc, instead of saving for a ps3, buying a 360 or a laptop.

If you do something, you should do it right. And buying a weak laptop isn't right at all.

I wouldn't buy THAT laptop over a PS3. I just got one with twice the specs at Best Buy for $50 less than that one. You could find a much better deal if you shop around more.

I'd buy a nice laptop over the ps3 anyday.

Laptop  :freakboy:
ps3  :vomit:

So it seems safe to say that the consensus is that, for the money, a new PC or laptop (of one's choosing) is a better value than a PS3.

Now if only the buying public can get the same perspective...

What?! You have a laptop?! When did this happen?
