Title: The RFG Rating System and other Tangents. Post by: Kevincal on August 06, 2006, 11:57:29 PM Hmm, that's a good point. I might be a little guilty myself of tacking on an extra 5% when I rate a game that I know is good and it has a rating of like 50% or less.
Maybe it might be a good idea to make someone have atleast 100 posts in the forums before they could rate a game, that way we kinda know who they are and know they are reliable enough to give a fair score. The same could apply to the price guide. What do you think of that? :) Title: Re: Price guide suggestion. Post by: Izret101 on August 09, 2006, 10:38:57 AM Basing it on a members posts is not fair either.
Then you would get people who would put up 100 +1 posts or lose the insite of people who may prefer to lurk around. In the end you really have to just hope people are honest. Which can really be a shame sometimes. Title: Re: Price guide suggestion. Post by: Tynstar on August 09, 2006, 12:52:07 PM Plus I don't think it says who gave the rating.
Title: Re: Price guide suggestion. Post by: TraderJake on August 09, 2006, 01:14:23 PM Yes, but we (The Administrators of the site) know who are purposefully tanking the rating system. :evilhappy:
In an ideal system, there would be so many votes that these bad ratings would be offset by all the people who overrate the games, but not many people rate the games. Moral of the story: RATE THE GAMES!!! Title: Re: Price guide suggestion. Post by: TraderJake on August 09, 2006, 05:15:25 PM Yes, I am not going to but I could tell you who gave all good Nintendo games a rating of 5.
I thought about retaliating against his beloved PAL sega games, but that just wouldn't be nice. This list seems extremely skewed though... http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/toprated.pl Title: Re: Price guide suggestion. Post by: Izret101 on August 09, 2006, 05:50:43 PM Yea it does.

Title: Re: The RFG Rating System and other Tangents. Post by: the_wizard_666 on August 10, 2006, 06:38:29 AM Chrono Trigger, I'd say 8.5 :P
Title: Re: The RFG Rating System and other Tangents. Post by: TurboGrafxer AKA DCer on August 10, 2006, 09:02:20 AM i would love to have a copy of chrono trigger for the snes. luckily i found a friend that has all 3 final fantasy games for snes (just 2, 3 and 4). hes gonna sell me all 3 for $100. on ebay they go for $30-$40 so i guess i am getting a deal. idk. but chrono trigger being a 5. wtf? it deserves at least a 7 or 8.

On the RFG system, we have a 100 point scale, with a 5 being the lowest possible rating. Title: Re: The RFG Rating System and other Tangents. Post by: Shimra on August 10, 2006, 06:14:57 PM How crazy is it that a game which consistently cracks the top 10 best games ever list receives 5s, from people here. I have little faith in the user review system here, therefore, I look at the top rated games and laugh.

I have little faith in the user review system here, therefore, I look at the top rated games and laugh. I don't see the difference between the RFG user rating system and any other user rating system...since as long as anonymous members can submit any score they desire, the rating is potentially skewed. As mentioned before, though, the more people that submit ratings, the more accurate the rating, in general. For example, on imdb.com, the best movies have multiple tens of thousands of votes, and the rating averages to a high score, even though, inevitably, there are people who gave such movies a score of 1. Title: Re: The RFG Rating System and other Tangents. Post by: TurboGrafxer AKA DCer on August 12, 2006, 07:23:47 PM from now on when i add my games to my collection i am going to put a rating on them.
