Title: Good anime?
Post by: Izret101 on July 13, 2006, 03:05:00 PM
I have been watching ALOT of anime lately.

Some good ones i can suggest:

Hellsing - Vampires, Ghouls, Guns, secret organizations. It is a very very well done series great subbed and dubbed, i am glad i watched it both ways because you pick up alot more that way. You get more story and Hellsing seems more BA in english. It is only i think 16 eps long so it is shorter than most series really a shame :-/

Love Hina - A kid trying to get into Tokyo U becomes a manager at an all girls school. Antic ensue, emotional strife, lots of funny/strange stuff happens, especially with the "flying turtles". Pretty much opposite of Hellsing but still very good.

Chobits - Guy from the farms of Japan trying to get into college. Finds a persocom(basically like a sexy cyborg but way smarter, and cooler) with unexplainable powers, antics ensue, love stories, deep profound thought provoking crap happens, also has a secret organization thing. Another very good story.

Azu Manga Daioh! - I am told these were originally shown in Japan during commercial breaks or as filler. They are pretty damn funny and follow a group of school students and a few of their teachers. Creepy teacher is my favorite. Definately worth watching for a good many laughs.

Samurai Champloo - Fuedal Japan with a modern twist. Can be seen on Adult Swim so don't worry about going out of your way to see it

Full Metal Alchemist - Again it is on Adult Swim so it won't be too hard to see

Paranioa Agent - i think this was only a few eps long all of which were on adult swim. I only caught about 3-5 of them but what i saw was very good. For some reason i found some of the characters designs to be annoying though.

Trigun - Anyone know where i can pick up some $$bills? How do you even come up with double dollars for a currency? Great series, interesting characters, cool stories. Adult Swim

Cowboy Beebop - Adult Swim

FLCL - Random and amazing series. It was only 6 eps and can probably be only fully understood while on an illegal substance. I have not tried

Card Captor Sakura - This is a MASSIVE series. I have only seen 1/4th of the episodes max. This gurl released magic cards into the world and they cards had spirits trapped inside she has to capture the clow cards by using the abilities of cards she already controls. Not too far into the series she "competes" with another card captor who is trying to catch the cards just like her but he is doing it because he doesn't trust her to properly seal them away or somerthing... In anycase very cool concept cool show.

Bleach - Only seen a few episodes of this but it was very cool as well. This kid has the ability to see spirits/ghosts/poltergiest and for some reason has superhuman abilities. I only saw about 5-6 eps(out of 80 and counting last i knew) before my girlfriends laptop fried and she lost the series.

Evangellion - only seen a  few eps need to finish the series

Saikano - only seen a few eps. need to finish the series

Outlaw Star - Only saw a few eps of this one but it seemed kinda like Cowboy Beebop but more serious.

Berserk - eh it was pretty good. nothing too special IMO.

My Neighbor Totoro - A Miyazaki/Studio Ghilbi film. It was pretty good. I saw the most recent version of it with voice acting by some famous little girl actress whos name escapes me. I don't like there voices particularly. Avoid the Disney version to not have this problem. Aside from the most recent releases crappy voices the movie is good. Geared more towards children IMO

Howl's Moving Castle Miyazaki/Studio Ghilbi (movie)

The Cat Returns Miyazaki/Studio Ghilbi (movie)

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds Miyazaki/Studio Ghilbi (movie)

Kiki's Delivery Service Miyazaki/Studio Ghilbi (movie)

And of course Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT as well as the movies i always found very entertaining when i use to watch them.

I will probably just make a huge list in this post as i remember ones.
I'll have to add wether they were good bad or ok later.
As it stands now everything here was good unless noted.
and all are series unless noted to be a movie.

I used to watch Inuyasha a lot, and when Case Closed was on I'd watch that too. Oh, and Trigun rules too.

And that, is the anime that I watch.

How did i not put Trigun in my list.

That was another one of my favorite series. We picked up a bootleg boxset from eBay but it didn't work :-/

Never heard of Crying Freeman. Seen at least a couple eps of almost everything else mentioned and all of which were pretty good.

Whats Crying Freeman about?
Same goes for Golgo 13.

Golgo 13 the main guy is a hit man. Freeman I cant rememebr been 13 years since I have seen it.

All I ever watched series wise was Cowboy Bebop.

Ninja Scroll is teh pwn though.

Princess Mononoke was meh.

Perfect Blue was just weird.

I did actually see a pretty good hentai anime. Something about demons in fuedal Japan.

Legend of the Overfiend is...

And Akira is also teh pwn.

And Castle in the Sky was alright.

And all those other groovy ones that kids can watch.

Samurai 7,  Vampire Hunter D, Gundam Wing, and Ghost in the Shell (both the movies, and the series).

Vampire Hunter D oh yeah I forgot to post that one.

lot of good ones on your list Izret. Cowboy Bebop is the best of all I've seen so far. Series is better than the movie. Akira and Vampire Hunter D were good too.

I also like Yu Yu Hakesho. The Dragonball series get a bad rap but there are pretty fun to watch, kinda repetitive but still fun.

I've watched My Neighbor Totoro with my daughter a few times. Pretty good.

I would have said Akira but I haev found whenever I say that movie is good around big time anime fans they always say how bad that is and BS liek that.

A couple that I'm watching right now (thanks to www.fansub.tv) are "The Melancholy of Hiruhi Suzumiya" (it starts out odd, and progressively gets more and more odd... but pretty damn funny, too) and "Kamisama Kazuku" (translates to somelike like "Kazoku God," a story about a kid who comes from God's family and has to learn about humanity to become God in the future).  Both are funny, KK in particular has some excellent music with it too (some of the best J-pop I've found), worth downloading if your connection is fast enough.

The classics (well, modern classics) like Card Captor Sakura, Akira and Cowboy Bebop are kick-ass too.

..Akira was terrible. Too crazy and bizarre for me.

For real, though, I'm glad there's so many great animes on that list. Makes me happy in the fangirl way. : D

I really liked FMP (full metal panic) and Naruto. One piece is also one of my favorites.

Post by: Izret101 on July 24, 2006, 10:40:01 PM
I haven't seen any full metal panic eps.
I have heard good things about it though elsewhere too.

Naruto is pretty cool aswell but i missed ALOT of those and can't get into the series in the middle and try and catch up.

One Piece is a pretty cool storyline/concept (from what i have seen) but i can't stand the american voices/dialouge and the art styling bugs me.
I am sure the original japanese version would be way better than the hacked to pieces US version.
But the art still bugs me. It is just wierd. I can't put my finger on it...

God I can't believe I forgot: The Recode of Lodoss War, Read or Die, Escaflowne, Ruronuni Kenshin, and Witch Hunter Robbin are all good ones.

Lets see, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and....damn I forgot 2 I liked that were on Cartoon network a couple of years ago...  One was a team of bounty hunters and the main guy smoked and there was a big older guy, a girl, and a kid that was a computer wiz.

Title: Re: Good anime?

That would be Cowboy Bebop.  It's still on Saturdays I think.

This is a list of my favorites:
 1. Evangelion- This is my favorite anime ever. It has an excellent story line and the charactors are awesome. This is the only anime that I have been able to watch over 15 times. Thankgoodness I bought the box set, I definitely got my moneys worth.
 2. Chobits- I know this one is rather girly and such... But it is something you can definitely cuddle too. I sometimes catch my self singing the theme song to myself "let me be with you". Its a very dramatic lovey dovey comedy.
 3. Love Hina- This is yet another series you can cuddle up to with a gf/bf. Its also very funny. I don't recommend the American voice cast tho. So be prepaired to read. This was good times with Izret.
 4. Bleach- Ive only gotten about half way thru this series but as I watch it is slowly creeping up to the top of my list. Its exciting and full of action. Nothing better than a guy with a huge sword killing demons.
 5. Full Metal Alchemist- This is a very emotional series. I must have cried at least 6 times trout or became ferclempt. I really like this because of the story.
 6. Cowboy Bebop- This was a great one because of the action. The misfit match of charactors really adds to the drama and humor.
 7. Trigun- This was a very exciting anime. I really enjoyed it. I wish I had the boxset to this one. It's one I could watch again and probably a few more times.
 8. Azumanga Daioh- This series is full of laughs and even a few cries. I absolutely love the creepy teacher who is always following the school girls around. This is an anime people can really get into.
 9. Hellsing- What can I say Vampires are wicked awesome. Arucard totally kicks ass. So much blood....
 10. Miyazaki Movies- aka Studio Ghibli Movies. I really liked all of them that I have seen. I have never been disappointed. The list from what I think are the best from the worst: Totoro, Castle in the Sky, Spirited Away, Steam Boy, Grave of Fireflies (I don't think this one is suitable for children), The Cat Returns, Nausica and the Vally of the Wind, Howels Moving Castle, Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, and thats all I can remember right now. But most of these movies are good family movies.
 11. Outlaw Star- This is a really good story. I really enjoyed it. I'm going to watch it again with Izret. He hasn't seen it yet but i know he will like it. Its kinda like Cowboybeebop meets chobits meets Trigun.
 12. Samurai Champloo- This one is tied with Outlaw Star. I really like this one for the story. I love the fight scenes. This one was really good.
 13. Ghost in the Shell- The movies were much better than the series. The series is alright. I watch it on Adult swim sometimes.
LAST: Berserk- This wasn't a very good series to me. I'm not really into Midevil warfair and demons and such. This one was kind of a bore to me. Except episodes 4 & 5 (inside joke: if you want in ask izret why these are so special to him)

These are just some of my favorites. I have seen alot of anime and spend alot of time with it. I am working on an anime collection. If anyone is selling any boxsets or anything let me know, I may be interested.
TTYL,
Shannon Rose ;) ;)

What the hell?

Kinda makes me glad that I don't really care for anime.

I've tried about a dozen series / movies, and the only one that I really got into was Great Teacher Onizuka.  It's pretty funny. :)

Good anime? There's no such thing. It's a complete oxymoron. DOES NOT COMPUTE!!!

Go watch some Perfect Hair Forever, Tom Goes To The Mayor, and 12 Oz Mouse instead.

Seriously, those are good shows.

Oh, and good anime: how about Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Akira, Lupin the 3rd, Trigun, Super Milk Chan, Crest Of The Stars, Excel Saga, and Full Metal Panic.

Your crazy to think Tom Goes to the Mayor is a good show. I think that is probably the worst show on the air. I wish that they would take it off Adult Swim. There so many better things they could put in its place.
Well I guess I will forgive you for such poor judgement on the Tom Goes to the Mayor, at least you have some good choices in anime. :)I think its funny, your list of good anime after stating there was no such thing. LOL sometimes people make me laugh.

Like??

If you say FLCL, Family Guy, Inu Yasha, Full Metal Alchemist, Robot Chicken, or The Boondocks, then I can see why you'd hate TGTTM. It is definitely not your type of humor. It's more along the line of stuff like Arrested Development, Mr. Show, Strangers With Candy and even Super Milk Chan.

Also, I hated Tom too at first, but as I watched more of it, I started to realize how great it really is. Yet again, my tastes in humor is far different than most people.

Actually I really liked Arrested Development, Mr. Show, and  Strangers With Candy. I think TGTTM is nothing like it. Maybe its its simple form of animation. All I know is that is really nothing I can stand watching. Its not even worth waisting my time on it. But everyone is in-titled to there opinion. :) My opinion is that it shouldn't be on the air.

I think aot of anime can be spoiled by 2 things ,first bad dubs that just dont suit the film as in bad actiong or the wrong type of voice, or subtitles that are to fast as in you see the answer to a question at the same time.
Thats the thing tihs subs though i do like to hear the original voices but hate having to read a film as you miss whats going on onscreen.

for my choich of good stuff to will say Gunsmith Cats, Guns, Bounty hunters and a Shelby cobra nice

Bleach is still really good.
I am told it will be on Adult Swim soon?

Hopefully they don't fuck up the dubs.

I can already tell there is at least one character i am going to hate.
They will give him a shitty southern accent.

It is very good generic action anime.

It take generic action anime to a whole new level.
Especially if you watch enough of the eps.
