Title: Re: rare NES game on ebay Post by: the_wizard_666 on July 03, 2006, 04:18:28 PM NWC Gold. Won by contestants in the 1990 Nintendo World Championships...as far as I know anyway. Seller was either a contestant or bought it from one. And your rarity guide is a bit off...usually goes much higher than that ;)

I think there were what, a hundred gold carts made? I don't know too much about it, I'm not gonna go spending the cash to get one when the EPROMs are likely gonna crap out in another 4 or 5 years anyway.
Title: Re: rare NES game on ebay Post by: Speedy_NES on July 03, 2006, 05:27:29 PM There were a total of 26 gold ones made. They weren't won during the competition, but rather through Nintendo Power. The grey NWCs were won by the finalists of the NWC 1990, and quite a few greys were also given to Nintendo employees back in the day, so there are many more of those out there.
I'm pretty sure this seller bought it from either a contestant or another collector a few years back. There was a topic on DP regarding the price of gold NWCs not too long ago, it was argued that its value is around 5,000-7,000k US$. There were some higher offers made for one not too long ago, but they were likely false. Title: Re: rare NES game on ebay Post by: the_wizard_666 on July 03, 2006, 06:36:18 PM Thanks Speedy. It's about the one cart I don't have much info on...mostly cuz I don't much care if I ever land one :P

It's about the one cart I don't have much info on...mostly cuz I don't much care if I ever land one :P I'm sure you would be tickled if you landed one, I know I would. There are a bunch of grey carts in hiding and I will find one digging through a bunch of common games at a flea market. :P Title: Re: rare NES game on ebay Post by: the_wizard_666 on July 03, 2006, 10:38:22 PM Oh if I found one for dirt cheap, like a pawn shop or some shit, it'd be hitting eBay in a heartbeat...I could use the fundage. I don't think I'd ever want to keep it really, although I might...just not gonna drop 6 or 7 grand on it.

I don't think I'd ever want to keep it really, although I might...just not gonna drop 6 or 7 grand on it. You'd be able to afford all the games that you've always wanted. I personally would try to hold onto it for as long as possible. If I had a family emergency or something, than it would definitely be leaving my hands. I'll be honest and say, "I'd be happy with finding a myriad or a River Patrol." Title: Re: rare NES game on ebay Post by: TRAY on July 04, 2006, 01:19:30 AM What a insane price...only a fool would pay 20 grand for this thing!
Even a price between 6000 and 7000 is way to much is my opinion! I rather spend my money on other equipment or a car in that case:) Title: Re: rare NES game on ebay Post by: neskid on July 04, 2006, 01:31:58 AM i have a question about world championship 1990 game. i've seen pictures of the gold and grey carts and the pics i've seen all the carts have that nitch with the 4 switches where your grab the game. i was wondering if the game came in grey carts that didnt have that nitch.
Title: Re: rare NES game on ebay Post by: the_wizard_666 on July 04, 2006, 01:34:31 AM Not to my knowledge. That's how you'd switch from the timed competition mode to regular mode, or at least that's what I've been led to believe. Speedy, do you know more on this?
Title: Re: rare NES game on ebay Post by: neskid on July 04, 2006, 01:46:53 AM i'm asking because in one of my old nintendo power mags the july/august 1990 issue the very last page. they were having a contest and second prize was a NWC game. the pic of the game shows no nitch. they gave away 25 of them the pic also shows that it was a gold cart i thought i was a grey cart till i looked it up again.

You are correct sir. 8) Title: Re: rare NES game on ebay Post by: Hounder on July 04, 2006, 04:16:15 AM The seller was given a 5 digit offer on the cart. I think the next closest offer was $8,000. If I could find one for cheap I'd buy it. Don't know if I would keep it though since the game will eventually erase itself and then to me it would be worthless.

There are rare eprom atari games going on 30 years that are still kicking, but they will collapse at any time. Very very nice to say the least :) Title: Re: rare NES game on ebay Post by: wrldstrman on July 05, 2006, 11:18:02 PM I wish I had the income to pay that much for a cart but then again if i had that much of a income i can think of a million other things i would rather have
Title: Re: rare NES game on ebay Post by: Trade-N-Games on July 11, 2006, 09:29:42 PM I had the game in my hands today and got some good pictures of it. It looked even better in person and it was very fun to play. The seller came and hung out at my store for about 5 hours and we talked about all things video games. It was fun to think that in my hand might be the most $$$ any game has sold for.

No, I'm not rich -- just a good saver at money. :) Title: Re: rare NES game on ebay Post by: atari_wizard on July 17, 2006, 11:17:56 PM Funny stuff, I just bought a $5,000 CD today. Title: Re: rare NES game on ebay Post by: David_J. on July 18, 2006, 12:24:25 AM Certificate of deposit. Go on down to your local bank!
I know I should have waited for this game to appear! Now I have to wait another 12 months. Oh well. :p Title: Re: rare NES game on ebay Post by: Tynstar on July 18, 2006, 12:21:51 PM OHhhhhhhhhhhhthat kind of CD I was thinking a computer software program since you said not a music CD.
Title: Re: rare NES game on ebay Post by: udisi on July 29, 2006, 08:38:54 PM Thought I'd chime in over here. This is my game...It didn't sell. I had a straight cash offer of 12.5k and a structured payment sale of 17.5k. I ended up turning both offers down. I hoping for 15k straight cash deal. Who knows maybe the 12.5k was the best straight offer I would get, but I may attempt to sell this in the winter when more money seems to be available.
Title: Re: rare NES game on ebay Post by: captain_nintendo on July 29, 2006, 10:11:08 PM but I may attempt to sell this in the winter when more money seems to be available. Might want to wait until tax return time? ;) I always see NES games go crazy in price about this time. Title: Re: rare NES game on ebay Post by: udisi on July 30, 2006, 01:17:36 AM I say winter because most of the people who showed interest were buisness owners. The christmas season is the best time for retailers, and they have much more cash in hand at that time. Tax retuen money usually isn't enough to make a big purchase like this.
