Title: Best Video Game find in the "Wild"
Post by: Tynstar on May 30, 2006, 02:33:56 PM
What is your best find while out hunting? Was it a really rare game? Was it a huge lot of games? Or just a game you had been searching for but just couldn't find?

Lets here the story. Or a couple stories.

Well, my best finds have always been with you "tynstar" around.
Star Fox Super Weekend cart at a local EB Games. 12.99

Caltron 6 in 1, 5 dollars from a local person.
CIB, PAL stadium events for 10 dollars for same local person.

Those are a few of my favorites. Some of my favorite stories involve myself, tynstar and jagdiesel digging through piles of boxes in the back of Games plus (a local store). We organized the back store room and pulled out what we wanted to buy. I got many of my boxes and manuals this way, along with many NES games.

I don't have a lot of games in my collection....which lends itself to having even fewer "rarities."  However, I have a few favorite finds in the wild...
FinalFantasy3 Loose (SNES) for $5
Tengen Tetris Loose $1.50
A top loading NES 101 for $2
Castlevania: SOTN CIB (PS1) $4
World Series Baseball CIB (32x) $1
Virtual Boy w/ Red Alarm and Mario Tennis $12
and
Once, I had a really great weekend where I found several in box NES games and found Metal Storm (which I really, trully, in all honesty LOVE)

I love finding cheap gaming goodness....

edit:  YAY...100th post ::)

Congrats on the 100th post  :P

I don't find a lot of NES stuff in the wild, but some of the better things I've come across:

500+ NTSC NES manuals, hardly any dupes and with lots of rare titles - $5 US
Super Mario IV and Super Mario Family pirates for NES - Free
6 or 7 rare Videopac+ games + G7400 console for 12,50 euro
CIB Videopac console with a bunch of cib games for 5 euro
CDi player w/video cartridge, a dozen or so games, and a cib Peacekeeper gun for 3 euro

Those should be my best deals, might be a few I am forgetting though..

In the "wild" my best find was 5$ CIB NES games.
I picked up 200+$s worth of them in 2 weeks.
I left way more behind and since then the prices have gone up dramatically i am sure.

I don't know if i have had too many really great finds outside of that one store who has changed their prices alot recently.

I think the rarest game I've found in the wild is Swordquest Waterworld for the 2600. I got it for 50 cents at a thrift.

Since about 80% of my collection has been aquired in the wild I've had many good finds. And most of it real cheap.

I found a CIB Colecovision for $5. When I got it home and opened it up it was brand new. The outer box was pretty scuffed up and a flap was missing but the system inside was still sealed in baggies.

I got a Sega Master System with 3D glasses and a 3D game built in for around $15.

My Panasonic and Goldstar 3DO's were both had for around $10.

I got a CIB Milton Bradley Microvision for $2. About a year later I found 4 CIB games and 2 loose for like a buck apiece.

a few other good game finds are Final Fantasy for NES loose for 50 cents. SMS Phantasy Star CIB for $2, Hotel Mario (the only good CD-i game) CIB for $2 and MUSHA for Genesis and VAy for Sega CD for $3 each.

I love the wild. I've had to invest a LOT of time searching but it's been well worth it.

I haven't had any truly "great" finds in the wild, but my best so far in my opinion was a boxed Odyssey 2 with 12 complete games for $50.

I've had a few other really good finds like a complete MUSHA for $3 and sealed Family Dog and Math Blasters for the SNES for $5 a piece, but my collection is mostly common games that I've picked up peice by peice.

I found Woody Woodpecker Vols. I, II, and III for the 3DO in, of all places, a craft store that sold all those, um, crafty things people make, like quilts and wooden fat women bent over mooning you...don't ask.

They were at one time the rarest games for the 3DO.  Picked all 3 up for about $5 total, I think.  Other than that, I rarely EVER find anything in the wild worth commenting on.  In fact, I don't find much in the wild and have pretty much given up...I do, however, pop into a Goodwill every now and then to see what I find, which usually ain't much.

My best find thus far has been picking up a copy of Disgaea at a local flea market for $10. The guy originally had it marked at $12 but I talked him down.

I haven't seen it anywhere else since then.

I got Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel for the Megadrive for 70p at a car boot sale a few weeks ago. It's one of the hardest Megadrive games to find.

Buddy of mine landed a CIB, near mint copy of Pro Sport Hockey for $9.99 CDN.  Best I did that day was my Dusty Diamond All Star Softball with poster, missing the manual, for the same price.  But my best personal score has to be my CIB Ren & Stimpy: Fire Dogs that I scored at a pawn shop for $10.  It's in near mint shape, only noticable flaw is some damage from where I removed the sticker on the box, and a little ding in one corner.  Other than that it's pretty damn nice...even smells minty :P

The sad part is I can't tell if you're being sarcastic.

If you do have a legit Pepsi Invaders, that thing is worth a boatload.

I'd take a real Pepsi Invaders over a CIB US Stadium Events any day.

My best find was on the Fourth of July.  Dropped by the Goodwill Store, found two Game Boy Pocket units (with games in 'em - Legend of Zelda: LA and Star Wars), both work, one of 'em the Ice Blue "Limited Edition" unit.

Total cost was roughly four bucks.  ;D

Sega Nomad at the local Goodwill for $5. I bought it right on the spot...but was in a pinch for some money a few months later and had to sell it on Ebay.

I also found a complete 3DO system for $30 with 5 games at another Goodwill as well as a top loading NES with the hookups and a dog bone controller for $7.

I never seem to have much luck in the wild with my collection really! I did pick up a brand new GC Pokemon Box Ruby & Sapphire with memory card at a bootfair for £4 though, which was pretty special :)
