I have not done this. I must not be a collector.

Well, since I have 600+ loose NES games & only 1 of those which are boxed, makes me a non collector as well. I didn't know we had to be 100% accurate in this thread.

you get Christmas cards from the local game stores.

......you get payed then  drive across the parking lot and buy Guitar Hero for 3/4ths of your paycheck.

......people think you work at a store and ask you questions about the games/systems and what is good/bad/fun

that's why I always carry my little notebook of what I need. though there's still been times I've looked, saw the game already checked off told myself  "no, that can't be right" bought it, went home and found that it indeed was right.

Oh my God, this is a constant for me. On the day after thanksgiving I went to an EB at the mall and helped so many people I should have been given a paycheck.

I have gotten lucky a few times.
I got charged a 2$ overdraft fee because i didn't balance my check book (still don't though)

...People walk into your game room not knowing you're a collector and say "It's great that you have a home business" due to anal layout, massive amounts of promos, and cleanliness.

I'm guilty of the looking for games while on vacation and people asking me about games though I'm shopping there too bits.

(first thanks to the great game stores & junk shops in Cookeville, TN, and second thanks to the folks who ruminate over the SNES section of the Book and Music Exchange in Henderson, KY)

God that is so true. I can't remember the last time I played a game. I went to play a Genesis game the other day and was looking at all the games. I couldn't figure what to play so I said screw it and did't play anything.

This happens to me almost every day with the Megadrive, and I don't have a third of the games you do. It must be hell picking from that many!

You might be a game collector if you have more cleaning supplies than a janitor.

Mine is:  Having a hard time deciding if you have that game in your collection already.  Then deciding to buy it anyway because someone might need it.

I have 3 Dragon Warrors (NES) and 2 TMNT (NES) because of that vary reason. ;)

You have to decide between using pocket change to buy lunch or a shitty game you don't own.
And the shitty game wins.

....if the manager at your local game crazy says he'll put any genre of game aside when it comes in used and complete for you when he gets it in for any particular system untill you next come in.

....when same manager offers to drive across town to pick up a few games from another store so you dont have to.

....when you wake up you have to move a stack of games to slap the alarm, then move another stack of games to reach the bathroom sink, then more stacks to reach your closet, and finaly restack the gb games that fell in your shoes.

....when you cant even remember if you like games anymore but feel the compulsion to buy more games.

....if you've ever cancled a date because you needed that money to buy more games.

.....you've ever bought an entire series of games spanning two or more systems and never played a single title from the franchise and it has over 8 games to it.

When you walk into any store in a 10 mile radius of your home the manager/employees tell you that you can either take something now or go in the back to get it.

When your boss specifically scheduals you around clean up days to save space in the dumpsters.

Once you finally get money you spend any leftovers on games. Only to realize you miscalculated and are once again short for your bills.

Yeah it does, and I gotta admit I'm also addicted.  I spent much more time on eBay & taking care of incoming packages (i.e cleaning games etc) than I do playing the games.  It's not too bad, though..for me it's almost like two different hobbies.  The games that I play, I do not collect...and the games that I collect, I do not play. ;)

well being born in the early sixties does put you in the infancy of video games but not completely out of it

What about if you buy many of the same console so you can take them apart getting all the best condition bits so you end up with an almost perfect console. I did that I bought three Megadrive 2s. I now have 2 good Megadrive 2s and one Excellent one. :D
