Title: Collection Folder Query
Post by: Izret101 on March 05, 2006, 05:02:39 PM
Well i decided to be more efficient with my collection.

I set up a new folder for my games that where only boxes and/or manuals.

I moved the 11 games(i forgot about these working to 500 games again...) to this folder and they lost all the quantities and info i had entered for the games got deleted in the transition.

Is there anyway to make it so that when you move games to a new folder they do not lose the info that you had entered in a previous folder?

I have noticed that info is removed when moving games between folders. I always just delete and re add stuff that I need moved.

It should be possible, I'll look into it.

Haven't gotten around to it yet.  Next week is finals week for me, so after then I have a week off that I should be able to spend some time looking into it.

I too just made my own box/manual folder.

If you just copy it to a folder instead of moving it, you can easily see what you had, then delete the original entries.

I noticed this too.  Does make it a bit of a pain in the ass.

I made an orphans folder as well. I only  put my NES boxes and manuals in it.

OK, I'm looking into this now and need some input.  Should info only be copied when you move games, or when you copy them as well.  Also, if a game is already present in the folder you're moving/copying games to, should the current values be overwritten, kept, or added to the current ones.  If the values are to be added, that can only be possible for the quantity, boxes, and manuals, the comments will either have to be overwritten or kept.  Your thoughts?

Well when I move games from my orphans or wishlist folders I would like the info to go with it.

I agree with Scott.
If i am going to copy a game over i want everything to go with it.

The only way that could cause trouble is when people move something from their orphans to the collection.

If they already had a complete copy of the game and move it to their collection.

I don't know if this is possible or not(or more importantly how hard it is) but what if there was a screen that would alert you to a duplicate entry and show you what info you have for it?

Hmmmm....Interesting.

Well for the time being, moving or copying will keep info, I made the changes.  I'll still have to figure out what to do with duplicates, but hopefully this can hold everyone over for a little while.

Thanks for checking on my other idea :)

Yes, copy everything for moving AND copying!!  And if there is already something there in the folder you are adding to have the values add up.
