Title: Breakfast Cereal
Post by: shaggy on January 29, 2006, 01:55:56 AM
I was making breakfast yesterday and realized I used to eat Forsted Mini Wheat right out of the box without any milk.  What cereals have you or still eat out of the box with no milk?

My mom never would get any kind of sugery cereal. The sweetest cereal I ever would have would be Raisin Bran. Unless I went to my Grandma's, oh boy, she had it all.

I never liked to eat cereal out of the box because I thought digging around in the bag was annoying.  And I find cereal to be much better with milk.

One time when I was a kid we were out of milk, which was rare as we bought 6 gallons at a time. So my brother and sister wanted cereal but as there was no milk my dad told them they should just use water instead. I dont know why my dad thought this was going to be a good idea but they did it. Obvouisly it was bad but my dad made them finish, I watched the whole time thinking this was pretty funny.

Having cereal without milk is like have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with the jelly. It just doesn't work.

Funny story about breakfast cereals.
Bland, tasteless foods were believed to curb the urge to masturbate in the Victorian era.
Mr. Kellog, deciding that masturbation was too much of a problem for the world, developed a very bland food called Corn Flakes so that young people wouldn't have the urge to masturbate.

Same deal with Mr. Graham and his crackers.

Golden Grahams rock!!  Generic cereals usually don't taste as good as regular cereal but there are some that actually are up to par with the non-generic brand.

Three things:

1) During the Victorian Era, masturbation was considered cause for putting someone in an insane asylum.  It was believed thatmasturbation lead to all sorts of things, one of which was insanity.

2) The article says that Kellogg wanted to help the insane people, and one way of doing that in his mind would have been to curb masturbation.

It said they were  invented on accident.  I honestly don't care what her later used them for. :)

Also, you should come see Slither with us on Saturday.  A bunch of us are going.

Leon, I wasn't trusting the Internet on that one, I was trusting my psych. professor.  I figured since the topic of the class is human sexuality that she knew what she was talking about.  The details may not work out exactly, but this is what she told us.

It does say that they were invented accidentally, but he did use them this way.

And I won't have a "weekend" till the end of the semester, too much work to do.  Accordingly, I will be stuck in West Lafayette until the end of the semester.  School is fun.

the sad thing about cereal today is back in the day you used to get really cool prizes in the box..I remember honey combs you could get some really cool dinosaurs..and they were good sized to not the cracker jack size.
